Great and unique Game

What other game allows you to play a western movie?!?!

This game is so addicting. I finished playing the game. And the best part is when you play the game again and start a new game, all the guns, items you bought through the first time are there for you to use!!! That's awesome. Some games don't let you carry items and weapons over to the next new game. Great job.

Also, great job on the whole ambience of sound, music and the way the graphics look. Like a grainy western movie complete with lines through the film and dots appearing at random.

I understand that some people don't like to play the game because it's linear. However, keep in mind that it's like a movie. A specific plot and path to complete. The plot is a bit simple, but that's what the old western movies were made from. Simple plot and a lot of cool shots!!

So, I think this game is just fantastic. I disagree that it was boring and repetitive. It's fresh, fun and nostalgic.

Have fun.

It's about time that a good western game came out. With this title being released by Rockstar Games I knew it was one that I was definitely going to have to get my hands on. The premise of the game is a tale of revenge. You take on the role of Red, whose family was murdered in front of him when he was young. In addition to Red, you also play as some of the other characters including Red's friends and even the bad guy himself. The look and sound of the game is based on Sergio Leone's Spaghetti Westerns starring the likes of Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef, which are among my favorite films of all-time. The style of the game stays true to the genre with the look, feel, and sounds. It's a blast to play with quick-drawing, rapid-firing, sharp-shooting action. The settings also look spectacular which includes everything from border towns, cemetaries and silver mines to rivers, mountains and green, green valleys. Gameplay ranges from run and shoot to stagecoach and train chases on horseback. The controls are a bit odd but you are taken through tutorial early in the story to help you master the art of the quick-draw and the dead-eye! Some of the voices and the dialogue are a bit silly but it adds to the charm of the game and are good for a chuckle here and there. There is also a Showdown mode where you can take one opponent to earn extra cash and unlockable items. It's also a good place to practice your aiming technique. Red Dead Revolver also features a multi-player mode for up to four people. I highly recommend this game to all fans of the western film genre and third-person shooters. Have fun!

Max Payne's Wild West Counterpart

Red Dead Revolver plays much like Max Payne. In fact, our hero, the scar-faced Red, has an ability to slow down time just like Max Payne to allow multiple auto-lock targets. Go Big Red!

The story revolves around Red, and early in the game, you watch on helplessly as Red's father is murdered before your eyes. Fast forward to some years later, Red is grown and has taken up occupation as a bounty hunter. From here, you mostly go out on bounty-hunting expeditions before the revenge-Red's-father storyline comes into play.

The style and atmosphere of the game are its best elements. On one level you make your way along a runaway train; in another, you engage in a saloon brawl. Typically, the levels are small, but what's there is rendered nicely.

Another neat aspect of the game is the dueling showdowns where you face off with enemies in classic western fashion. You draw your gun in slow motion and try to lock a "critical hit" before your enemy fires at you. Good luck trying to duel with three guys at once which the game makes you do at one point fairly early off.

The worst part of Revolver is the camera. It's completely manual, so often you will have enemies sneak up behind you without your knowledge. Not only do you have to turn your character around, but the camera as well, giving your enemy a few extra moments to knock off some of that health meter. Ugh!

Overall, the game is pretty entertaining, especially if you've ever wanted to engage in some wild west action. If you're a fan of the Max Payne series, you will be able to pick up and play the controls on this title fairly easily. This is a solid renter.

FUN!!!

This is a FUN game!!! If you like spaghetti westerns, you will probably like this game. The graphics are done in a cartoon style instead of a realistic style. At first, I was put off by this, but the style grew on me as I played.

You play the game primarily as Red, a bounty hunter, but you also get to play as other characters, which keeps the game fresh and fun.

No Western would be complete without a duel and this game has duels in which you have to draw your gun before your opponent and shoot him down before he shoots you down.

The game is story based and you have to complete different missions such as hunting wanted criminals and protecting a train from robbers.

There are different weapons in the game: revolvers, six shooters, rifles, dynamite (yes I said dynamite), shotguns, etc..

I wouldn't buy this game at full price, but I would definitely buy it if the price drops. But don't listen to me, I am a cheap skate.

I think the game is good and FUN and I recommend it.

Rootin' Tootin' Fun!

This is one of those games that can suck away hours, as you try to clear just ONE MORE level. It gleefully exploits every classic western stereotype, from one-on-one gunfights, saloon brawls, shooting outlaws as they gallop after your train, and picking off varmints from behind boulders. You play as the laconic Red, a feisty, shotgun-wielding lady rancher, Native American warrior, English sharpshooter, even a Buffalo Soldier! The music is truly top knotch, and the sheer number of items to unlock make playing through several times worth it. If you've ever enjoyed the western, you'll like this game. There is the occaisional camera glitch: a few times as I ducked fire I was completely blinded to my foes but this was rare. Also, some of the voice acting is unintentionally hilarious, but that's par for the course.

One note: characters do die rather graphically, with the requisite geysers of blood and very, uh, wet sound effects. So it may not be for the younguns, but then, this is the company that makes the Grand Theft Auto games, so...

Great Action Game for the Western scene

The game was a lot of fun to play, but can be beat in about 4 to 6 hours of play. This game is worth renting but not worth buying. Once the game is beat it is boring to play. The graphics are good, AI is good, but the story line is to short or to easy. If you think you want this game RENT it first, most likely after renting and beating it you won't want to buy it.

A decent game in an untouched genre

I was very pleased to see the advertisement for this game, I had been waiting a long time for a western shooter. Although I prefer first person shooters, it is still a pretty good game. The multiplayer is incredibly fast-paced, exciting, and addictive. There is a huge selection of characters to choose from.
The first person was excellent, a great challenge. The story is a bit thin, and seemingly incongruous at times, but then again, so are the speghetti Westerns it emulates. The music is strangely familiar and nostalgic, almost as if it was STOLEN from speghetti Westerns. The characters say hillarious, albeit depraved things that give the game a sort of "tasteless yet classy" aura.
The graphics leave a little to be desired. Acceptable, but a better job could have been done.
Overall this is a great game that I still enjoy a playing every once and a while.

This game is one of the best action games that I have played in recent months. I bought it and I immediately regreted it because I don't usually like Western movies. When I got home and popped it into my PS2 I was very biased and thought that it sucked because the first level doesn't let you use many of the features. Once I got through it, the game immediately grew on me. I've beaten it already, but it has a pretty decent replay value so I still play in the other modes that are offered after you beat it once.

Solid rental

I like many of the reviewers here was excited that a western game was being made. I'm not really into westerns I just thought that it's a different story from most video games right now. I didn't even know that it was made by Rockstar until it flashed on the screen before I started playing and it was suprising how the controls were pretty decent compared to GTA. I thought that the aiming and the camera were pretty good in this game, if you've ever played a first person shooter you are already accustomed to it. The story is pretty good for a spaghetti western and the voice acting is so cheesy that you love it. The unique thing that I enjoyed about this game is that you change characters in the midst of the story. Although, sometimes you wish you had Red, the title character, in some of them. The reason I ranked this game so high and said just to rent it is because there is no replay value at all. After you finish the game you don't really want to play it anymore. All the same it was a fun game and a different kind of game than all these your a stealthy government agent preventing a mad scientist from taking over the world. So for a change of pace game and story wise Red Dead Revolver is a good rental.
