This game is one of the best for the PS2. It is by far the best action/adventure games I have played in a long time. It combines the old-school feel of Ghosts 'N' Goblins and plays out in a 3D world. You get powerups by spending coins you get from dead enemies. The only problem is that the game is very difficult, and by the time you get to save, you might have only one life left, that means that unless you know how to play perfectly, you'll die over and over in the same area. Otherwise it is great.

I don't know why it says it comes out tha 15th cuz I found it at blockbuster. This game is tight. It has a different kind of life system where the more armor you lose the more vulnerable you are. You can learn more abilities as you play it by cuttin up some badguys. Im gonna buy this game when I see it in the stores.

In the modern reincarnation of its classic side-scoller "Ghosts and Goblins", Capcom unearths fantastic gameplay in "Maximo: Ghosts to Glory". This game lives up to the hype. Fascinating graphics and sound effects immerse the player in an entertaining and challenging game environment. If you're a fan of Crash Bandicoot or other games in the 3D-3rd-person genre, check out this game! Capcom regains its title as the undisputed king of console-gaming fun.
Classically Fun!

I stumbled onto this game at blockbuster and came here to Amazon to pre-order. (Capcom made a deal with Blockbuster and released the game to them a month before the stores get it so their customers could rent before they chose to buy -- great policy as I am a quick buyer.) It is so much fun to play, a little wandering, a little collecting, a little fighting. We laugh as we get from level to level either because his moves are so cool or because the ghosts, zombies or skeletons have just stole our clothes! Great for my boyfriend to play together passing the controller back and forth between us . . . can't wait to play it with his kids!
The graphics are great and really capitalize on the platform. Load times are quick. You are always learning additional moves and finding new gear such as a gold suit or armour or flaming sword.
Basically, an interesting, classic game filled with eye-candy and fun!
Warning . . . can be addicting :)

Maximo is quite a game. In many aspects it is quite good, with its great graphics and vast environments. But one thing just stands out and must be mentioned: one must possess some serious, SERIOUS masochistic tendencies in order to venture into this gaming world. I mean, come on, I enjoy a good challenge as much as the next guy, but the difficulty in this game is almost ridiculous, practically to the point of being painful.
There are 5 main worlds, which are broken up into about 5000 square miles of area you must check out, as you try and do battle with 35 monsters at the same time, just hoping to avoid those 3 hits it takes for you to croak, and hoping you'll get a single measly life potion so you can survive a few more steps til' you get attacked by 45 other beasts. Plus, if you do make it in one piece to one of the 3 or 4 save points in the entire game (and kudos to you if you do), you're so wasted by then it's practically pointless cause' the next time you load the game, all you can pretty much do is take one step and die.
So, basically, graphics wise, it's pretty cool. But the experience itself can be torture. The only reason i give Maximo 3 stars is cause' it's so freakin' hard that there is that feeling of "HELL YEAAAHH!!!", when you actually get to finish any part of your quest.... which most likely occurs when your armor is long gone and you're down to your boxers.
A Tough game but fun.

The other day I decided to rent Maximo at Blockbuster and found out this game is very fun but challenging. For instance, you can't just save whenever or wherever you want to. There are "save pools" where you have a choice to save, but getting to themis another matter. You must pay 100gold coins to save your game or youcan't save at all. There are "continues", but you must collect 50 of these tiny "spirits" when yousee a tombstone with them on it, you whack the tobstone and out theycome. For every 50 spirits you collect, you receive one "death coin" which you must give to the grim reaper after you have lost allyour lives. Then there is the problem with the camera. It's completely uesless! You will not be able to see things in the directionyou want to go. Especially when youwant to turn around and go back, it's like walking blindfolded.Other than that, Maximo has great graphics and play control. It resembles the old SNES Ghouls & Ghosts if you remember that long ago. I will definitely buy and would recommend this game to fans of the old school Ghousts & Goblinsand Super Ghouls & Ghosts. Maximo is Primo!

I preordered this game but went out to blockbuster to rent it just to give it a try. I have always been a fan of the ghouls and ghosts series so any new addition would have caught my eye. Everything about this game is pretty much right on the money. Graphics, sound, and gameplay are all top-notch. Its not exactly the easiest game out there but if you spend the time to think out your next move you shouldnt have a hard time getting through the game. Its all a matter of acquiring continue coins. You need to collect spirits. 50 spirits will get you a coin. You trade coins with the Grim Reaper to bring you back to life. I found a point in the first level where I could collect spirits and get an extra life.. and repeat the process. I collected a whole bunch of continues in a short period of time. No Problem. If your looking for a solid and challenging gameplay experience you owe it to yourself to pick this game up.
Game is Good, not Great. Camera Angles are Ridiculous.

Wow. Well let me tell you, this game isn't that bad, but it has a few glarring problems that are sure to make you throw the controller down in frustration. The Camera just won't position right. The reality is, a top view perspective would've been the best thing, though I'll admit the graphics wouldn't look so hot with that perspective. Then there's the getting hit by enemies you can't see problem... honestly, I could talk forever about how much I hate the camera, so just assume it bites the big one so I can go on to other things... For instance, the button for the shield is in too awkward a place, I'd love to use the shield a lot, but it's hard to find amist the hacking and slashing. (btw, I don't mean the button to throw the shield, that one is easy to locate, I mean the "defend" button). Anyways, the graphics are beautiful, the sound effects are... kinda good... nothing too special, personally I could do without the CLANG that comes from hitting the enemies shield, or hitting the walls/scenery(which happens way too often). It's a fairly fun game, and has little things that might keep you coming back, even after you've completed the game. I don't remember the old Ghost and Goblins/Ghouls and Ghosts too much, apart from the fact my quarter never lasted too long, so I don't really look at this from a nostalga perspective. One might say the camera angles is what makes this game longer than it should be, you will die a lot because of that stupid thing. The enemies are more of an annoyance, or are hard BECAUSE of the camera angles. Apart from the sneaking up behind you thing, a lot of the times it's hard to tell just how close the enemy is to you, so you may widely miss trying to hit them, leaving you wide open for a de-clothing. Also when a game relies so much on platform jumping(and believe me, this game does) a bad camera angle can make you HATE PLATFORM JUMPING. Have I mentioned the camera enough? I dunno, I like the game, but it can get on your nerves!
ps. here's a tip for the game, avoid attacking any enemies and just run and jump for the goal, if you think this game is hard, try avoiding conflict :)
