Game is Good, not Great. Camera Angles are Ridiculous.

Wow. Well let me tell you, this game isn't that bad, but it has a few glarring problems that are sure to make you throw the controller down in frustration. The Camera just won't position right. The reality is, a top view perspective would've been the best thing, though I'll admit the graphics wouldn't look so hot with that perspective. Then there's the getting hit by enemies you can't see problem... honestly, I could talk forever about how much I hate the camera, so just assume it bites the big one so I can go on to other things... For instance, the button for the shield is in too awkward a place, I'd love to use the shield a lot, but it's hard to find amist the hacking and slashing. (btw, I don't mean the button to throw the shield, that one is easy to locate, I mean the "defend" button). Anyways, the graphics are beautiful, the sound effects are... kinda good... nothing too special, personally I could do without the CLANG that comes from hitting the enemies shield, or hitting the walls/scenery(which happens way too often). It's a fairly fun game, and has little things that might keep you coming back, even after you've completed the game. I don't remember the old Ghost and Goblins/Ghouls and Ghosts too much, apart from the fact my quarter never lasted too long, so I don't really look at this from a nostalga perspective. One might say the camera angles is what makes this game longer than it should be, you will die a lot because of that stupid thing. The enemies are more of an annoyance, or are hard BECAUSE of the camera angles. Apart from the sneaking up behind you thing, a lot of the times it's hard to tell just how close the enemy is to you, so you may widely miss trying to hit them, leaving you wide open for a de-clothing. Also when a game relies so much on platform jumping(and believe me, this game does) a bad camera angle can make you HATE PLATFORM JUMPING. Have I mentioned the camera enough? I dunno, I like the game, but it can get on your nerves!

ps. here's a tip for the game, avoid attacking any enemies and just run and jump for the goal, if you think this game is hard, try avoiding conflict :)

In the modern reincarnation of its classic side-scoller "Ghosts and Goblins", Capcom unearths fantastic gameplay in "Maximo: Ghosts to Glory". This game lives up to the hype. Fascinating graphics and sound effects immerse the player in an entertaining and challenging game environment. If you're a fan of Crash Bandicoot or other games in the 3D-3rd-person genre, check out this game! Capcom regains its title as the undisputed king of console-gaming fun.

I can't believe how much fun this game has been so far. I have only completed the first level, but I am hooked. It sort of reminds me of Zelda in some ways. I normally don't buy a game when it first comes out, but I bought this one after reading a glowing review about it in a gaming magazine. I haven't been disappointed so far. Definately consider at least renting it first if you're not sure about it - it's worth a try.

A Really cool and exciting Game

...
This game is extremely good looking and quite large. It's your typical platform game, you run, jump and kill the baddies, you collect all kinds of items including armor and weapon upgrades.
One of the more comical aspects of this game is the fact that every time our hero gets hit by a bad guy he loses a piece of his armor and you get to the point where he's just wearing his boxers.
The only bad points I have to say about this game is that, as with most platformers the camera angles tend to be BAD. And the other thing is that you can hit a bad guy two times in a row but then there seems to be a sort of lag where you can't hit the bad guy, this is something you have to try to understand.
But all in all this is a must for your Playstation2 library, it's fun and it does get hard believe it or not, so if I were you, which I am not, get this game, quick.

Common now

I rented this game and I played it for a good chunk of time when I realized I was doing the same darn things over in each level. I know there are different moves he gets, but common! That doesn't make a great game. so if you play this game, after a while into it you will notice your eyelids getting heavy, you will yawn a few times then realize that this game is more than a bit repeatative in each level. then, if your like me you'll put it away and forget you even bought the thing because there is nothing that should grab your attention in maximo. If you want a good slice and dice game go out and get devil may cry. if you already onw devil may cry then what do you want with maximo? there is nothing that would make me want to buy maximo.

a blast from the past

Maximo reminds me of why I fell in love with video games 20 years ago. This game is tough, something missing from many games of the past 5 years! It will require dedication on your part to get the most from it, just like it's 8 & 16 bit predecessors. The control is tight and easy to learn. The graphics are sharp and comical. The music is reminiscent of the classical age of gaming. The theme will bring a smile to the face of my fellow "old-school" gamers. In short... if you miss the golden age of gaming, buy this game. If you are curious about what all us old timers are always rattling on about, rent it. Most of all, have fun!

Level of difficulty makes Maximo most appealing!

I can't believe how upset everyone is over Maximo's level of difficulty. By far one of the most appealing things about the game is it's difficulty. Would you rather spend [money] on a game you could solve in 5 hours or INVEST in a game that delivers weeks of fun and intensity. Moreover, the feeling of accomplishment one gets when he/she completes a level is true gaming bliss!

It's great fun, and worth the money, go have some fun!

I expected better...

If it wasn't for the 4,000,000,000,000 enemies this piece of junk throws at you, I would have liked it a tad better. The story is good, the graphics are good, and every other item is fine. But having all your armor blown away in a micro- second, all your money being tossed to a crow, and all lives being thrown out the window, you just can't get excited when you start playing. I really do wish I hadn't wasted 50$.

A great 3D action platformer, but can be difficult at times

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 0 / 0

Maximo is a 3D action platformer loosely based on Capcom's old Ghosts And Goblins series. Using a sword and shield, you'll slash your way through five beautifully detailed worlds. Power-ups can be found in chests and won through fighting enemies, but require being equipped in "lock spots" should you want to keep them even if you die (you start out with three lock spots, but one more is obtained each time you beat a boss). The cinemas are a nice addition to the story, and the overall length of the game is about right (it will most likely take about 7-10 hours to beat the first time through). The only flaws that bring down Maximo are the occasionally frustrating camera and difficulty. The camera doesn't exacty give you free reign, as often you will find yourself in the corner trying to position it while taking a few hits. Also, some of the later levels may prove to be too frustrating for some. The control is perfect, it's just that there are a lot of tricky jumps and slippery areas that make the game a little more tedious than it should be. Still, I've played games in my day that were much more stressful and annoying, so it's tolerable. Ultimately, Maximo achieves the task of combining old style gameplay with a 3D environment, and could well be considered a classic years from now. So if you're looking for some challenging 3D action, Maximo is an excellent choice.

Game of the year!

This game is awesome first off. The graphics are incredible the story is great and the levels are good too. Only thing is that this game gets kind of hard and it is very frusturating. Over all I would give this game between a high four and a low five. This is one of those games that is worth buying for the PS2.
