This update of the old maximo game was a blast, the degree of difficulty was challenging, but not impossible, the graphics were good, sword and shield upgrades throughout the game help as the game becomes progressively more difficult and for me, the replay value (to get 100% in each level) added to the addictiveness of the game, after you get 100% on all levels you unlock one more level. I really enjoyed it and was kind of sad when it was over!

Very entertaining game. Graphics and sound are above average, and the gameplay is excellent. Challenging enough for experienced gamers, but not too detailed or complicated. Some will complaing about the "save game" method, but I didn't find that it bothered me much. Wish there were more games like it out there.
For the price, this game is well worth it. Highly recommended.

This game is a bit repetitive and boring , It is worth renting on a rainy day , the graphics are average , I found myself getting lost and unable to figuer out ware to go in order to finish a level.

"Maximo" is a "knight vs monsters" themed game. But it also shares some gameplay aspects similar to "Spyro" in that you need to find hidden items, collect money and defeat enemies while trying to achieve a 100% completion ranking.
However, while "Spyro" is suitable for almost any age or skill level, "Maximo" is a much more difficult game. The first stage of the first level is relatively easy, once you figure out how to save. But from there the difficulty level rachets up dramatically.
What I eventually discovered is that the easiest and most effective way to play the game is to constantly replay the first stage in order to build up lives, money and keys to use in the more difficult levels. This takes some of the frustration out of completing the hardest levels. But doing the first stage over and over can certainly become repetitious and it makes the spirit collecting aspect of the game nearly pointless. After many long hours, I finally "won" the game and achieved a 98% level of completion. But, I must admit, I have had to resort to an internet walkthrough "cheat" in order to finish the last 2%.
So basically I agree with the other reviewers that said this game gets difficult very quickly and is certainly not for everyone. But, for those willing to perservere, it can offer a fun and long lasting gaming experience.

I bought Maximo because of fond memories of the Ghosts 'n Goblins and Ghouls 'n Ghosts games. The switch from 2D to 3D has reared an unfortunate problem in the shape of the camera angles. In the originals, you always knew where your enemies were approaching from. The majority of your enemies spring from the ground and then make a beeline straight to you, and this can be very frustrating when you haven't realized that they're behind you. The angles ban be manually switched via the shoulder buttons, but I'd have preferred the game to try to keep the action ahead of your character.
My other gripe is that this game is basically PSone's Medievil with smoother graphics. Not Medievil 2 either, the original from *years* back. The backgrounds, the monsters, the music all hark back to Medievil, and unfortunately they're not even as original or varied. Admittedly, all Medievil was was a copy of Ghouls 'n Ghosts in 3D, but it beat Maximo to it by a good few years.
Definately rent this out first and then make your mind up. Played back to back with the likes of Devil May Cry, Maximo comes off as a little too shallow and simplistic.
It's Fun At First

It's fun slashing, breaking, stomping skeleton warriors, but I feel there's something missing.
Capcom made it so, you can't continue unlimited times which makes the game tougher for novice players. Game was a bit tough.
I don't feel like there's any replay value. I think many feel this way because on auction sites, you will find many copies of Maximo.
So overall, fun at first, no more fun in about a month.
saving stinks - does it even exist?

let me start out saying: i was pretty dissapointed.
first of all, why did they make the saving so terrible? i rented this game and i still havent figured out how to save the darn thing. i read another review and it said something about a save pool and paying coins to save. if they just stuck to the simple-press start, save game, save complete, i think the game would be alot more enjoyable. the graphics are stunning, the music is perfect, but if you cant really save, whats the point of buying maximo?
oh, yeah, and why does everyong complain about too many enemies? i'd actually like to have a little more. although they do cluster them a bit. somtimes it gets a little frustrating, but if your willing to spend 4 hours trying to save, buy this game. if you like the traditional:press start, save game, save complete, keep maximo out of sight.
