Fun to the Max-imo!

This game is so much fun. In order to accuratley describe it, you need to get a big mixing bowl and thow in Ghouls-n-Ghosts, Zelda, Mario Bros and Crash Bandicoot. Whip that all up on high speed for like 20 minutes and you have one of the best games in a long while.
This game is great, it provides many hours of challenging gameplay and secrets to uncover. The save/continue system is a nice addition that allows players to "earn" their merits and saves. The enemies are comical and engaging...but hard to beat, especially when they come at you in droves. The life potions and powerups are spread throughout the levels, but not in abundance. This makes the game challenging, but even so, younger players would still enjoy and appreciate its "kid" appeal as well.
Anyone who is a fan of those 2D action games of yester-year will really like this one. Its a nice additon to any game library for any type of gamer...give a whirl, wack some skeletons and get your girlfriend back!

Learn by dying/failing, and when you fail you go all the way back to the beginning. That's a rather bad game design philosophy.

Maximo is the best!

My Dad and I went to Blockbuster. I had never rented it, so I thought I'd give it a try. I beat the first boss and the second boss. My mom was watching me play and she said, "You chose a great game." Then I told her I wanted it for my birthday. Well, I'm gonna play it right now! See ya!

Maximo is the man....This game rocks!!!!

I have to admit, I didn't know what to expect when I tried the game out. I'd never played Ghosts and Goblins before. Once I did play it, it reminded me alot of Medieval for the Playstation, with a dash of Mario, Zelda and Crash thrown in for good measure. Is that a bad thing you may ask? Not at all. Maximo is a challenging platformer with bright and colorful levels and sharp graphics. I loved playing this game. I sat for hours playing it. It never got boring at all. Everytime I'd put down the controller, I'd pick it up a few moments later and play again. It's that addicting. It's a simple game that almost anyone can pick up. It's great fun for all ages. I highly recommend Maximo. Definitely worth it.

Once upon a time there was an arcade game in the 1980's called Ghosts and Goblins. This game was later ported over to the original Nintendo system. It was a fun game, but one of the most difficult games i have ever played in 15 years of gaming. Maximo is reminiscent of Ghosts and Goblins, and this is not a bad thing. This is a three dimensional hack and slash game. It takes skill to stay alive. A similar game would be Medieval.

The difference between Maximo and Medieval would simply be the amount of fun each game is to play. While overly easy, Medieval was a lot of fun. Maximo is just not that fun to play. I'm a fairly patient gamer, being a fan of RPG's, but i could not muster up enough interest to keep playing Maximo.

Maximo is a great game, but like any game, has its flaws.
Yeah, it's a little hard to save, and you even have to pay for it each time, but you can make it work for you in the long run.

Here's a few pointers that may help you get started:

1) Make that very first level your stock up zone. Learn all the tricks, practice your new abilities, and keep stocking up on lives, gold, armor and death coins in familiar territory. They'll only help you in the long run. After you go through it, and aren't at full armor or need gold, etc, don't hesitate to turn around and go through the level again. If you die too many times, start the game over or reset/reload until it becomes easier. Add 2 lives, and max out your armor each time through.
2) Save the game when you are at full armor. In level 2 (the one that connects all the graveyard levels), quickly run out and to the right, and just avoid the few undead that try to get you on your way to the save pool. If you fight them, there's too good of a chance to get injured. You can fight them after you save. Run by the portal to one of the levels, and find the pool on the top of a plateau not far past that area. Stand on the edge of the pool where the arrow is, and you should be able to bring up a save/teleport menu. It costs 100 gold each time, which you should have plenty of by now.
3) If you fall to your death, or die and lose all of your power-ups, and you recently saved the game, just quit and reload. That's a whole lot faster than trying to get all of those power-ups again.
4) When you defeat each boss and free a sorceress, choose save game as your reward. You can collect kisses the next time you play the game through, for it only unlocks a small section of production stills accessible at the main menu once you win with all the kisses. Some of those level entry zones can get a little tricky, and it's handy to have a recent save game to reload from.
5) Some of the best power-ups to lock into place: Longsword, Armor +1, Ring of Pain, Mask of Sorrow, Treasure Seeker, Shield of Midas.

Give Maximo a chance. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of the game. Sure, it may be a little tough at first to get the double jump or the downstab mastered, but it's worth your time practicing. Maybe, just maybe, after you've thoroughly trounced the evil king and "saved" the princess, you'll feel vindicated.

This is my all-time favorite video game! Maximo is so cool and the game is awesome! When I first rented it, I thought it was so cool, and I wanted to get it, but the box from the place I rented it from made it seem like it only had 5 levels! Am I gonna risk
$30-$50 for a game that could turn out to be VERY SHORT? Of course I am! I bought it and there is five WORLDS, each with multiple levels in each one. Each world has a different theme, Graveyard, Swamp, Um, IceWorld?, Ah-hem..."Heck"(H-E-Double Hockey Sticks), and Maximo's Castle. The bosses aren't THAT easy! I remember when I got to Bokor La Bombs(whatever his name is) and he's REALLY SCARY LOOKING and my Dad came and I didn't know he was there and he scared me half to death! Anyways, it's your basic hack n' slash, rescue the princess(es) and save the kingdom. Your main enemy is King Achiles(your so-called "friend"), or is he?

Wonderful!

I preordered this game but went out to blockbuster to rent it just to give it a try. I have always been a fan of the ghouls and ghosts series so any new addition would have caught my eye. Everything about this game is pretty much right on the money. Graphics, sound, and gameplay are all top-notch. Its not exactly the easiest game out there but if you spend the time to think out your next move you shouldnt have a hard time getting through the game. Its all a matter of acquiring continue coins. You need to collect spirits. 50 spirits will get you a coin. You trade coins with the Grim Reaper to bring you back to life. I found a point in the first level where I could collect spirits and get an extra life.. and repeat the process. I collected a whole bunch of continues in a short period of time. No Problem. If your looking for a solid and challenging gameplay experience you owe it to yourself to pick this game up.
