Great graphics and physics as well as the choice of real cars and race tracks. A wonderful game head and shoulder above others.

I love this game, it is by far the best simulator on PS2, if not the best racing game on the system. The graphics are gorgeous, even on my 16 year old TV. Unlike GT3, you really get a sense of speed, which makes all the cars fun to drive.
The game has 700 cars, so you'll never get tired. However, many of the 51 tracks are just different layouts of one track; for instance you can drive on 4 variants of Fuji Speedway.
B-spec mode makes it much easier to beat those tough endurance races, which include three 24 hour events, by having the car drive and pit itself.
My major complaint is offroad races. The new time penalty rules make it almost impossibe to pass, even in the easiest races.
Overall, though, this game is a fantastic improvement over GT3, and a must have for any racing buff with a PS2.

GT4 is the best race game ever. First of all the graphics are amazing. The pre made scenery is incredible. The crowd reacts to your every move like if you pass a guy at the finish they will start cheering not like GT3 where they just kept on cheering no matter what was happening. The rally and SNOW racing is unbelievable. The roost looks amazing unlike Gt3 where it just look like dark brown stuff.
There are over 650 cars and 100 tracks to choose from. Racing is so realistic and a little more diffucult than Gt3 even though the races in Gt3 were a little longer. You even have a fuel gauge in this game. I would reccomend buying the USED 96 Mazda Rx-7 at the beginning after you sell the car from getting your B licsense. Then get the new ford mustang.
Any way I got to go play this game right now. BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!! YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!!!!!!!!

As others have pointed out, there's nothing revolutionary about GT4 compared to the previous games in the series. Still it's an excellent evolution of the best driving simulator available, and the game probably gives you more for your money than any other title available for the PS2 or any other console either. The handling is spot-on, and the graphics are so awesome (almost photo realistic), that it's hard sometimes to keep your mind on the race when you see individuals in the crowd of spectators moving -- or even stepping out in the road in front of you and taking your photo! (Fortunately, they jump out of the way in time as you zoom through at 100 mph!) This game is truly a car nut's dream, with some 600 models to choose from, including pick-ups and classics. I've had the game for a week now, and I've just barely skimmed the surface of all the cars to try and courses to race. Last night I tried dirt racing for the first time, including a course on the edge of the Grand Canyon, and again the graphics were so mind-blowing I felt as if I had taken a mini-vacation to that beautiful spot. Other scenic spots include Tahiti, Paris, the Alps -- the list goes on and on. As some reviewers have mentioned, it takes a while to appreciate the full appeal and value of this game; your first used car isn't very fast out of the gate, and you have to win some races to earn the cash to upgrade horsepower and handling. Then comes the moment when you win your first tricked-out race car -- in my case, a souped-up red Nissan called a Nismo packing some serious ponies under the hood. Whoo hoo!!! Sure, there are plenty of things to nitpick, from the crappy music (not unusual in racing games -- I just turn it off)to the less-than-brilliant AI of your opponents. But these and other shortcomings are minor compared to the pleasures derived from the MONTHS of vehicular activity that await you. As another reviewer noted, this is a game that will keep you up past your bedtime and stay in your mind when you probably should be thinking of other things (like trying to earn a living in this wretched Bushist economy). HIGHLY recommended for car fans of all ages!
What a great game!

I just bought it yesterday, and although I only have 2.3% completed, I have a good feel for it. I think the only place it's lacking is in some of the vehicle soundtracks and in the extent of exterior customization. I had the '00 Camaro SS and it sounded like a damn dirt bike. I have the '04 GTO now, and it sounds better, but they don't have the muscle-bound tone that they should. I also wish you could do more than just wheels and spoilers. I'd love the option to put dual exhaust and a ram air hood on my GTO. Oh well, the game makes up for that in the playability and realism. The physics of each car are different, and each upgrade makes a good differece. I didn't think that lessening the weight would make a difference, but I immediately noticed a difference in cornering, braking and acceleration. The game is well worth the money, although I wouldn't reccomend it to someone who is not a real car person.

For the serious gamer this game is a winner. The options and multiple choices of cars of which to choose from is funominal. The only problem with this game is the fact that it's still a 50 dollar game here in Pennsylvania. This game is copyrighted in 04 but says 05 on the first game screen. Overall this game is great and it's well worth the money.

Sometimes I wonder how designers can continue to improve upon wonderful series such as Gran Turismo. Well, this is definitely one of those times. This game has so many, many different races, cars, options that you'll be involved for many, many months if you choose to complete it 100%. It is continually challenging and graphically stunning. Enjoy!
