BEST racing game EVER!!!!

This is by far the best racing simulation game ever. First tho, to all the people dissing it: If u love only arcade or Need for Speed games (which are great too), dont review this saying it sucked cuz its a totally different kind of game. Ur just wasting our time.
Anyway, the graphics are amazing and the physics are incredibly real. U can tell tons of time were spent getting the details right and studying real racing. As close to real driving in a game as u can get. The licenses take a while but u only need to get them as u go along n they're pretty easy to pass. (gold is very, very hard tho). Gameplay still rocks cuz its challenging, but there isn't ne thing impossible. And u can get a good car quick cuz I got a used Evo and by winning a few races have well over 300hp in it. AI needs to get better tho and there is still no damage to cars.
To summarize, if u liked other GT games buy this but dont expect a big difference. THe big upside is that theres more cars and a lot more tracks. Finally we get the historic nurburgring. There are great endurance races too: 24 hrs of Le mans and 24 hrs at N-ring. Its still the best game u can buy but its REAL. If u cant handle that dont get it and complain on line cuz u got nothing better to do. Those people suck. and btw if u really cant win... ur just bad at it. Sorry.

BEST GAME EVER!!!! BUY IT, PLAY IT, GET ADDICTED!!!

I absolutely loved this game. I would defiantly recommend it with all the new features and graphics. I would also suggest the Driving Force Gran Turismo for added realism and enhanced game play. This game is worth buying.

For those wondering about Grand Turismo 4 working on the PS3...it does not work on the 40 gig PS3.

Terrific, but I expected more...

Let me get this out of the way: I LOVE the Gran Turismo series. I am not a fanboy of any console or game, I just like fun games. Some titles have achieved such fame or notoriety that it's impossible to write about them in a neutral way. Well, here is my attempt!

I loved Gran Turismo 3 because it was the deepest, most realistic racing game I'd ever played. The graphics were great, the handling was true, and the career mode was insanely deep.

All those things are true about GT 4. The graphics are even better, to the point that I had to do a double take and make sure that these pretty pictures were coming from my PS2 and not my Xbox! The same depth is here, with literally hundreds of cars to unlock, and a career mode that rivals RPG's in depth and time to complete. The new "photography" mode is cool, at least for a little while, and the ability to download the pix you create is ingenious.

Now for the disappointment, aka: the reason this game didn't get 5 stars. This is basically THE SAME GAME as Gran Turismo 3. There are some tweaks (mainly graphical), more cars, but nothing really new or innovative. There is no online mode, which means that in many ways this game is behind last year's Project Gotham Racing 2, and this year's Forza Motorsport (which, by the by, has the Ferrari and Lamborghini license GT4 lacks). The Uber-annoying licensing tests are back, which means you can expect to slog through hours of tutorial-level gameplay before being able to race... some crappy underpowered import on a lame track. I know this game is deep, but you really have to have patience to make it to the fun cars. At least you can transfer up to 100k of your GT3 credits and A/B licenses over from a GT3 savegame, which is nice.

There is nothing "wrong" with this game, but it's just that it feels a bit bland and personality-less. It's technically perfect, the graphics are gorgeous, but it's missing something.

Finally, a Gran Turismo game that I like.

I have never been a real Gran Turismo fanatic. So you can consider me as a first-timer in the series. I played GT2 in the PS and thought it was nice but never did have the patience to play beyond my B license. I just found it too repititive. I borrowed GT3 and felt the same thing. But this time, GT4 seems to grab my attention more than my other recent purchse (God of War).

The #1 selling point here is graphics.

Moreover, I like the driving physics compared to the other racing games (I played Need for Speed Underground). Unlike other driving games, the key here is breaking appropriately at the right approach... more realistic if you ask me. In the game you MUST slow down to make a successful turn. This means that you can still lose a race even with a supercharged car just because you overturned. And what's convenient is that I can control the acceleration and breaking with the right analog stick (this allows you to apply the appropriate pressure compared to the buttons). And I never have to use the handbreaks with this technique.

This game will not cater to everyone unlike other driving games because the of difficulty in controlling (unless you have the expensive logitech wheel). But the graphics and the realism may appeal to racing fans and first-timers. Veteran GT players may have conflicting opinions on the game.

Still the best

Gran Turismo 4 maintains the high standards the previous versions have set.

Graphics are a little better than Gran Turismo 3 and there are certainly more cars to get. However the biggest improvement is in the new tracks available. El Captain is a fantastic track which has long sweeping turns combined with hills and climbs and longer straights. There are quite a few other new tracks that make this a considerable improvement over 3.

You start with a number of credits which will buy you an average 2nd hand car. Initailly you will only be able to enter a few races. You need to pass licence tests to progress. My advice is to get through all the licence tests at bronze level as quick as you can before buying your first car. The licence tests are good fun and do teach a lot about the tracks you'll be racing on.

You cannot damage the cars in this game, which is a long held criticsm of Gran Turismo. This doesn't worry me enough to drop it any marks but it would nice to have the option, as at present you can get away with Schumacher like tactics in races (crash into the side of people to put them into the sand) while you carry on to win the race.

great game. it actually helps me out to understand the physics of my car which improved my steering accuracy, accleration , and decel, of course braking on turns and what not.

Amazing Simulator

I have to say that, if you are used to the Need for Speed games, you will not be very good at this game at first. The physics are very realistic, and the cars are almost all dead-on in performance and looks. Don't avoid this game because of its lack of Lamborghinis and Ferraris, it is too good of a game to be ignored for that. It's good with the DS2 controller, and it's amazing with a good force feedback steering wheel. If you want to learn how to race in real life, start with this game. The only thing I would like to see yet in it is Road America, but I can deal with that.

Better By Far

I have been an NFS fan for years and was looking for another NFS game to purchase, I was suddenly taken with the case then I proceeded to read some reviews but wasn't too impressed, however I decided to do my own investigation by purchasing this GT4 (Master Peice) and now I've lived to tell the tail of no regret. I'm so In-Love with it that I'm considering purchasing a backup copy, I really can't believe N-E-1 would want to post negative comments about this game, jUST tOTALLY aWESOME, my favourite ride is the Nissan Skyline GT-R 00' (9/10) and Evolution VIII (7.5/10).

Best Racing Game Yet, almost.

Yes, I did give this game 5 Stars, but the driveability is icredible, as you start as a novice, and can work your way up to driving unaided. The almost is that it needs vinals added, and more aftermarket parts, but an exellent game for stockers, and prostockers. Not to mention the sharpest classic lines I've seen so far, hope they contenue impriving this set of game in further additions, and hopefully not just for the playstation 3. Best background ive seen in a racing game yet. Overall, extreamly exellent.
