I agree 100% with all the previous reviews claiming the game is addictive as can be. I mean this in the best possible way, I just can't get enough of it... its just *that* fun to play. I have been away from gaming for several years, and I can safely say that I have not had this much enjoyment playing a game since the Diablo and Diablo II games (also from Blizzard ... hmm, coincidence?). You will find yourself staying up into the wee hours of the night just saying "one more level" or "if I could only get that one new spell it would make all the difference." Just so much fun and the online aspect just plain works. I can't recommend this one highly enough... just be prepared to be spending many a sleepless night on this one. Great stuff, thank you Blizzard!
A highly addictive and surprisingly beautiful game.

My friends had played this game for a month or so, and I finally gave in. So there I am, a tiny little level one without the slightest idea as to what the hell I was supposed to do. Luckily, the beginning levels do a good job of teaching you how to play the game and at the same time make you feel important to the workings of the world. That's part of what makes this game so great, you feel like an important hero, but at the same time know you're not the only one out there. In fact, the farther you advance in the game, the more you start to work with those other people, making you feel more and more like a soldier or drone than a hero, which kind of took away from the fun of the game for me. Also, the world and scenery are perfect. Its familiar enough for you to relate to it and make it believable, but different enough to make you feel like you're in a whole new fantastic world. They also give you enough rewards along the way to keep you leveling to 60, like my favorite, the mounts. i had an awesome raptor for my troll. Once you hit level 60 your journey is far from over, there is PvP, raiding, professions and more. So there is something there for just about everyone, although I did a little of everything. I give you one warning, if you plan to get to 60 and make something of yourself like become high warlord or down Nefarion, prepare to take the time out of your social life. This game had a lot of heart put into its development and it shows, there's just some kind of magic to the game.

PARENTS BEWARE-when you buy this game you are unaware that in order to play it the way it was intended, (according to all the kids that have it) you need to subscribe to a service for $15.00 @ month to play with others. Nowhere in the descriptive elements of the game was this stated; if it had been, the game would not have been purchased as a Christmas present. I feel cheated and duped. Your kid may want it, but do you want to pay a monthly fee for him to play it-CAVEAT EMPTOR! Buyer beware.

The hugely successful, highly addictive action-RPG bestseller Diablo II by game maker Blizzard was the "Whopper", and now the "Double Whopper" from the same game maker is coming: "World of Warcraft". How do you make something attractive and addictive even better? Easy! You make it bigger. Two fire-grilled beef patties, creamy mayonnaise, ketchup, red ripe tomatoes, crisp lettuce, onions and crunchy pickles - same as the original, only bigger. Sorry, I've been carried away by the slogans at our local Hamburger store ;)
Seriously, Blizzard games are well-known for their good looking visuals, sounds and addictive gameplay. The games's "inner values" (background story, quests, skill-system, game-balancing, Internet security (against cheats/hacks), etc) vary: Their RTS (Real-Time Strategy) hit "Starcraft", the never-ending "Map-Hack" Battle.net cheat issue aside, stands out as their best game in this regard, while their best-selling game hit Diablo II always suffered from the Battle.net cheats/hacks and the mediocre game-balancing and finish. Even after 3 years, 10 patches and lots of security updates/patches, the Diablo II Battle.net has been hacked over and over again within weeks, and game-balancing can still only be called "sufficient" at best, with many game features still being incomplete or cracked. The addictive gameplay, visuals and sounds know to play over these issues in a clever way, but they nevertheless can't inhibit the unsatisfactory feelings that will inevitably arise the longer you play the game.
"World of Warcraft", like Diablo II, will at the core be "hack & slay" for valuable items that the slain monsters can drop upon their death. The main difference to Diablo II is that the "hack & slay" now takes place in a bigger, more complex MMORPG-world. It's basically an Internet gambling game: the more monsters you kill and quests you solve, the more items drop and the better are your chances to get a superior item. The best items of the game, like in Diablo II, will be extremely rare with chances like that of a lottery win. To make this as entertaining as possible, many other things have been implemented: stunning visuals and sounds, quests, endless landscapes, trading with other players, crafting, building houses, player vs. player combat, and more.
If this is your type of thing, then this game is for you. Judging by the previews, "World of Warcraft" will probably be among the best MMORPG's this year, along with "Ultima X: Odyssey" and "EverQuest II". It is highly recommended though to wait at least 3 to 6 months with the purchase until the game has actually gone live on the servers and its worst flaws and bugs are fixed. This is even more important because you now have to pay a monthly fee to play the game, and the game can only be played on the Internet servers. A "single player" mode, like in Diablo II, doesn't exist here. Due to the immense complexity of this new MMORPG-world, there's also a good chance that a number of features and balance issues, like in Diablo II, will be left incomplete or unsolved respectively. You should be able to overlook one or the other flaw to be happy with the game. Last but not least, it should be noted that many important persons that have been responsible for the game conceptions and designs, have recently left Blizzard after some differences with the mother company. Whether or not this will have an impact on the quality of the support and content updates that the company has promised for the game, remains to be seen.

I remember when this game was anounced and I thought it would be the best game... Then I read more and got into beta... while the game is in the 'warcraft' world, it's missing ALOT.
My nitpicks.
1. VERY cartoony feel. The characters look like they are from the BeetleJuice cartoon or Anastasia.
2. Lack of classes. There are 9 classes... That's it. Compaired to other games like Dark Age of Camelot with 39 classes (+5 in next expantion). Only one Unique class per 'faction'. Paladins for Alliance, and Shaman for Horde. There is No necromancer, or Troll Beserker... or any sorcerers... There was ALOT of classes in warcraft3 and almost none of them made it to WoW. Blizzard really dropped the ball here, It's alot like Warcraft 1 and 2 where a Alliance fighter is EXACTLY THE SAME as Horde fighter... it's just a skin change.
3. PvP problems. The (few) classes are extreamly imbalanced. Blizzard could of spent some time looking at the problems with games to avoid these peoblems. As it sits now, you can be 'rooted', Stunned, and hit by other forms of Crowd Control over and over again and be totaly removed from combat. This means the classes that can have these ablities are overpowered. Expect Nerfs and lots of them.
4. PvP setup has problems. From what i've seen, you have to 'ask permission to fight' or go to an instanced PvP zone. This makes Rogue characters rather limited "Excuse me, can I backstab you?"
5. One World. Level 1 charcters could run into level 60 Enemy players... This is one reason why they have the 'ask permission' thing... why not put a couple of bottle-necks in with some high level guards to pervent players from harassing new players?
6. Nothing New. This game brings nothing new to the table.
I'd wait a few months after release and watch the game... I predict massive nerfs to classes... if the PvP becomes too much of a problem... maybe Blizzard would remove it totaly?
Blizzard has been known to do massive changes with out caring what their customers thing... Diablo 2 1.10 patch radically changed the game, and totaly destroyed many player's characters... Another reason why I'll wait a few months.

blizzard has adopted localized servers which only allows players with north american addresses to play on north american servers. if you have guildmates from other countries or you LIVE in another country, you will not be able to play on the north american server.

This is an incredibly interesting game, mainly because it's strengths are in opposite ends of the spectrum. Sadly, the game's strengths are all in one side, leaving the the other side completely empty.
Let's start off with rating the graphics. Of course I am going to give the graphics a 5/5, they are probably one of the best MMORPGS graphics I have ever seen, and deserve to be recognized! It's simple, the graphics will not leave you upset, but remember that the graphics are definately an object on the opposite end of the gaming spectrum.
Now, the game's gameplay. Amazing, I give that a 5/5. You can play this game and know exactly what you are doing. It's user friendly gameplay makes it the MMORPG it is, it's simple, and up front. Everythin is right there for you to learn, slowly, but surely. It deserves everything that it can possibly get.
The story to this game: Not there. You don't get a storyline to the game, unless of course you read it seperately, but what does that have to do with anything in the game? You aren't presented with a storyline in the game, and if you think you are following a storyline, it switches on you, or you end up ganked or dead by a huge creature and you can't find your place back so you do another quest... If you're looking for a game that does have a storyline in the MMORPG, I don't reccomend this game. There is no storyline that we can follow. It recieves a 1/5 for that.
PvE: It's great, it recieves a 4/5 for it simply because of it's simplicity. Why wouldn't it recieve a 5/5, you may ask? It's not involving, and the only time that it's required to be in a group is a raid group for a big quest, which is sadly rare untill you get in higher levels. However, some people prefer playing and grinding alone. If so, this is your game. If not, meaning you like to play with others and interact with others, then don't purchase this game.
PvP: Boring. What's the point in the PvP? You aren't given a goal, nor a prize for killing another player. You're simply presented with the idea of alliance and horde. It gets extremely boring to gank after a while, and it's really, really boring to get ganked when you are trying to play the game and get a larger level to go ganking, that is, of course, if you are playing on a PvP server... If you aren't playing on a PvP server, once you reach the max level, there isn't anything else to do but wander around and stare at everyone. It recieves a 2/5, 2 for being present, lacking 3/5 because it has no point to it, and it's too boring for anyone to keep a point attached to it.
I rate the rest of the game with a 2/5. Why? The theme of the game, again, isn't present, the quests are boring and don't seem to hold any meaning, and to reach any level, it takes extreme amounts of time. And if you plan on traveling anywhere, plan on taking about 2 - 3 hours to get there to perform a small task for a quest for about 300 xp or so. It's really annoying to try and perform tasks when you can't reach your destination! And if you are lucky, you will make it without being ganked, if you're on a PvP server, of course. All I have to say is, the game is great in one spectrum, graphics, gameplay and some pve aspects, but the rest is not there... Give us reason to play this game.
Flawed game that weakens the series...

As my topic suggests, World of Warcraft does a lot of damage to the Warcraft Universe. Fans of the RTS games, who have followed the arcing storyline will be disappointed with this mess of a game.
In an attempt to "dumb" this MMO enough for the masses to understand it, they pretty much destroyed the Warcraft Universe with some of the most mundane storylines I've seen in a game. I sometimes shudder to think this might be the end all of the Warcraft series, and can't for the life of me, picture what Warcraft 4 (the RTS) will have as it's story, since WoW has pretty much destroyed the foundation previously laid by the other games.
The game mechanics are simple, at best. A new player gets to "create" their avatar (I use the word create loosely, as the customization provided by this game is laughable at best). After that, you start in the "newbie" area, where you will have to complete the usual mindless quests, i.e., go kill a certain amount of monsters and get a certain amount of items.
Leveling is boring and easy for the first ten levels. At level 10, you are given "talent points" so that you can invest them in 3 trees of development. This is probably the only redeeming part of character development, because it does allow for more character differentiation. It is not enough, however, to save this mediocre game.
Leveling constitutes completing a series of mind-numbing quests, which most likely, you'll rarely read, except to find out where to go and what you need to get. Any story "told" through the quest text is sleep-inducing anyhow.
After you finally reach level 60 (if you are able to stand the boredom and repetitiveness) you can look forward to "end-game" content. This of course, requires you to actually belong to a decent guild. Odds are, however, that you'll be in one of the crappy guilds who get eaten alive in the harder game instances.
In a nut-shell, after 60, you can look forward to either not being able to do the end-game instances or doing them over and over again, in order to get phat lootz, purplz, etc. Getting a full set of epic gear will take you a long time, so expect to do BWL at least a full year before you are able to get 8/8 of any of the epic armor sets. Yay, I hope you look forward to mindless repetition of these instances, over, and over again.
It is good till level 60, then it is completely pointless.

The game looks and runs great. Easy to level up until you are level 35. Then you better group up. Not for a solo player. Once you are level 60, you have to apply to get in to a guild. That is the only way you can do instances.Otherwise be ready to spend pointless hours trying to get a group going. Only through a guild you can obtain good armor sets. If you like to group and apply for a guild like if it was a part time job, then this game is ok. If you want to enjoy playing solo this game is definetly not for you. The crafting system is pointless and the rewards for most quest are lame. On the plus art work is great, but that is about it.

World of Warcraft may be the greatest master piece mmorpg of all time. It has many good things that EQ has and many more thing that is 50 times better than what EQ has. There is one person that typed a review and he lied about many things here is his review. I speak in absolute sincerity when I say EVERYONE who writes a review on this game seriously are just idiots. Right now, the game is in BETA. That means its NOT DONE YET. Changes will happen. You can't judge a book by its first draft first sentecence.
Oh and the idiot who talked about flying mounts and classes and optional PvP is crazy too- there will NOT be flying mounts excluding taxi-type mounts which fly certain flight paths and charge money. The classes are much more than he mentioned, and he neglected to mention some new races that are now announced. Alright were should i start. First off there will people that right these reviews are not idiots, but he is because he wrote and review and siad that people that right these reviews are idiots! Second he said there will not be personal mounts which Blizzard has announced that there will be. Third there will be optional PvP because blizzard has announced this also. Fourth there will not be taxi flying mounts only water based forms of transportion that will require a few. WORLD OF WARCRAFT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! GET THE GAME IS WILL BE THE BEST GAME EVER☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺
