Baldurs Gate 2 is not a horrible game, but its not a great one either. It is almost exzactly like the first one, the only difference is the levels. More of an expansion than a sequel.

great if you want mindless action

This is basically a hack-n-slash game. You basically wind up figuring out the most effective attacks, then ignore beefing up any other special abilities. Some of the environments look pretty cool, though I realize I don't like games that show everything in top-down 3/4 perspective anymore (I think that's what they call it). But there is a lot of action. So if you like killing monsters for hours on end (I found it to be a longer game than one person pointed out. Longer than 12 hours IMO) you'll like this game. I think for this kind of game, Gauntlet Dark Legacy is WAY more fun. It's probably the same game length, definitely better graphics/perspective, more interesting level puzzles (Baldur's Gate has none really), and focuses on the abilities you need to kill monsters most effectively. There are no unnecessary abilities in that game. You can also play with a total of 4 people. BG is only for 1-2 players.

Yessssssss!!! Finally

I can't wait, finally a good co-op game. Co-ops are few and far on the PS2 so I am very excited about this one. The first one was incredible, although it lacked in story, the gameplay overall was very compelling. If the second one is indeed similar to the first, I will not complain. if you are into co-ops to play with friends of the opposite sex or the same, I highly recomend picking this one up!!

Amazing game

The original Baldur's Gate is an incredible Play Station experience. Superb graphics, addictive gameplay. A little short (finished it in a week-end)... but was still a completely satisfying and immersive experience.

From screen shots I've seen, looks like BG2 will not disappoint.

Disappointed

Some "haters" have given me unhelpful votes for this review. BELIEVE ME, I speak the truth. Walking and breathing at the same time is more difficult than beating this mediocre game.

Steps to beat the game:

1) play a necromancer
2) switch to "enervation"
3) hold X
4) win

My wife and I loved DA1 but this game left a lot to be desired. I played the necromancer and I found I could easily just leave my spell book set on "enervation" and basically kill anyone who got in my way. She played the barbarian and was getting upset because anything that came on our screen immediately died, and my mana never ran low.

What I am trying to say was that this game was RIDICOULOUSLY EASY. I mean it doesn't get much easier than this when it comes to video games. I was really expecting a lot more out of this, maybe even a slight challenge. Would have been nice to maybe die trying to fight a boss and being forced to try a different strategy... We might go back through and try it on the most difficult setting, but play on "normal" left a lot to be desired, and my motivation to try it again is low due to the new Everquest co-op being out.

Lot's of bugs and trouble with the disk locking up !

My husband and son had waited in suspense for the game as they had so much fun with the first one (which we had to send one defective copy back also). It finally got here last Friday. They played 7 hours on it Sat. and it locked up and wouldn't read the disk. They tried everything. ( My husband is a computer science person and is great with electronics). For some reason Sun. It would play on my Son's PS2, but not my husbands. They played for about 4hours and then tried to switch some of their weapons to magic items and it froze again. Has anyone else had these problems? It did the same thing on the first game till we replaced the disk. Or do we keep getting lemon disks? AK

Hopefully with BG:DA2 they've improved the few flaws that BG:DA had... namely the playtime, overwhelming numbers of monsters you had to fight, lack of a good storyline and nowhere near enough sidequests... though i did love the pure hack and slash mentality of the first game...
overall a good game with a few flaws that SHOULD and better be fixed in the sequel... looking forward to it... but will always prefer BG on the pc

coolest game ever then the gtas
