I really enjoyed this game. I have it for the Xbox and the graphics are well above average. This installment was much harder than the first and longer too. There are 5 characters to choose from ranging from the necromancer to the barbarian. The adventure is fairly long ranging from 7-12 hours depending on if you get everything. Another great feature is that each character has his or her own side quest which you can complete which will help rack up the experience points. I think the best adition to this game is the ablility to create and customize your equipment with magical gems you find. They gems all give you special ablilites and you can tweak it to fit your character perfectly. You can also play with a friend witch adds great replay value to the game. Overall it is a solid RPG that isn't hard to get into but may dissapoint hardcore RPG fans. I give it 4 out of 5.
Awesome!

This game is awesome! I've been playing it for 3 days. The new characters and the graphics are great. It's alot of fun if you grab a friend and play co-op. Lots of bad guys to slay and hidden goodies. The first BG was so much fun, this is even better. I totally recommend it.
A must buy!

This game is great! My husband and I have played the first BG several times, and were anxiously awaiting the sequel. We are now playing it for the 2nd time, and its very addictive, just as the first was. I love being able to upgrade your weapons with the gems, it adds more to the game, I think. I only wish there were more games out there for 2 players like this.
I've had higher expectations from this

a year or so ago, after playing the first BGate, I thought this was an easy to get used to and addicting game to play. Hack and slash for gold and search weapon racks to collect hardware, open treasure chests for plunder and visit a local merchant via depending on what part of the map you were on to buy and sell goods. and that is good! at the end of the first game I, and Im sure you as well had a mega buff character with awesome powers and rediculously expensive and high hit point weapons in you inventory , not to mention the cart loads of gold and other treasures you've carried--and the high class armor your character was wearing was satisfaction enough. AND I know WE all wished WE've could've carried all of it to the next installment of BGATE II.....BUT, NOOOOOOOOO! start from scratch with 5 characters this time. I was hoping that the weapons selection and design in the new game were different, spiked flails(ball and chain) better swords, axes and maces, at least created to look different not just classed or + this. this alone was a downer. weapons looked exactly like last game. and this goes as well for the armor design and selection. bummer. overall game play and scenarios are carbon copy of last and there are some familiar faces in this game as well, which I don't mind, But what I do mind is the fact that the new game has ONLY ONE MERCHANT to shop from in the town of BGATE itself, and on the map! There are no other merchants in the other lands or quest areas you play through. AND it would be nice if the other lands were more expansive and have towns or villages with merchants that carry maybe exotic or expensive or just plain cool looking,to use and have weapons/armor/enchanted items, etc. AGAIN, BUMMER. The enemies look very familiar from the last game and there are encore enemy character appearances on this game. ANOTHER PROBLEM I'm finding is striking a blow that actually connects to enemies and even bosses. With the dwarf character im playing, Having a really difficult time stricking an actual hit with every swing of an axe, mace, or sword. I see the swinging blow of the weapon go right through the enemy and not register a hit! I would say 1 out of every 4 strikes registered a hit. That is a FLAW! and lets just say that when you're battling the top boss characters be prepared to do ALOT of square dancing, swinging of your weapons if your a fighter character, cause face to face combat is health potion draining, and guaranteed suicide. But you don't have to take my word for it.
Pretty good, especially in comparison...

I have read a great deal of reviews on this game and its predecessor, and many of them claim that the first game was superior to this one, but I just can't see it. The first game was short, there was no workshop to alter your armor and weapons (one of the best aspects of this sequel), and the complete shortage of character feats was quite underwhelming.
This second game took all the crummy/boring facets of the first game and fixed them. It also took the good qualities of the first and improved upon them.
As I mentioned before, we get the workshop in this version, which greatly adds to the gameplay. No longer do you have to HOPE for a killer weapon or piece of armor...you can just make it (if you have enough money). The game, overall, seemed to take longer. This was, I'm sure, partly due to the greater number of available sidequests as well as the ability to re-visit earlier stages and find newer, more difficult (and more experience-points laden) enemies.
Let's not forget, too, that we have two extra character types to pick from at the very beginning. This, combined with more extensive character feat possibilities made leveling up characters more interesting.
Speaking of levelling up, one of the big drawbacks of the first game was that it was so short that it was nearly impossible to level your characters up to a point where you would have learned the majority of your character feats. It was disappointing. I even used the cheat menu to level warp and import my character to fight bosses repeatedly and I still only made it to level 19 before getting thoroughly bored.
This second installment of the BG:DA games, however, changes all that. By the end of the game, I had learned almost all of my character feats WITHOUT using any cheat codes or importing characters.
Overall, this game was far superior to the first installment. I only gave it four stars, however, because it just has no replay value. Granted, there are five different characters with completely different abilities. I even began playing it a second time with a different character but found myself turning the game off before even finishing the first level.
Nevertheless, I would recommend the game, especially for two-players!
The greatest Action RPG ever?

Do you want to get your girlfriend into gaming? If you're like me the answer is yes. I know some guys with girlfriends who just "watch" them play games. I know other guys who outright ignore their girlfriends for the sake of gaming. But towards what end. My girlfreind can't be ignored and she certainly isn't passive enough to just watch me play for hours, so there is nothing for it but to transform her into a foaming at the mouth gamer like myself. And gentlemen, This game did it. My girlfriend now has a gamestop AND E B games card of her own. She is constantly saying, "I don't know if MGS3 is gonna live up to the hype" she's even sophisticated enough to argue the merits of Doom 3 vs. Half life 2 vs. Halo 2 vs. Killzone with any card carrying gamer nerd.
What is the formula for this games success at winning her over...the elusive IT factor that so many game companies have clammored for...what was it about this game that transformed her into gaming guru? Lets break it down.
This game incorporates a (relatively) great story line. It involves large amounts of collecting and inventory management. Shopping. Strong Female characters. And a Narrative that builds to several climaxes rather than one Phalocentric ultimate boss battle orgasm of strife.
There have been many action RPGs of late. Usually this game gets comparred to Champions of Norrath. And Champions is a great game too. But it leans a little to heavily on big breasted game cliches. The dungeons in this game are well thought out, good save points, lots of stuff to collect. This game would have been five stars if it had two more things to polish it to perfection: 1) online multiplayer and 2)support for four players (like Champions of Norrath or Dungeons and Dragons Heros on X-Box).
To a guy who has played a lot of table top fantasy games or other RPGs this game will seem simplistic...but if you are looking for a great co-operative game YOU MUST BUY THIS GAME. it is great...and trust me...your girlfriend will love it.
An enjoyable game with a few shortcomings

I had just finished playing the first Dark Alliance with a friend this past November, so I didn't have too long to wait for this sequel. I thoroughly enjoyed the first game with its brilliant graphics and challenging levels, so DA2 had a lot to live up to.
Overall, I felt the game was not as challenging as the first and it took less time to finish, despite having more levels. In DA2, you start off with a little more in the way of weapons and armor and it's not long before you're wearing plate mail armor and weilding awesome weapons. In DA1, you didn't acheive this level of goods until 2/3 through the game, so strategizing was more important.
While it's nice to see more non-linear gameplay, the plot seemed more incoherent as a result. For instance, each of the five playable characters has their own "special contact" in the game - someone who grants you special abilities or weapons. I played as the barbarian, so the hippy wood wench at the green dragon level granted me Barkskin and Animal Charm abilities. This would have been useful earlier in the game, but the level was not available at that time. Likewise, my Necromancer friend was granted a special staff when we rescued the moon elf from DA1, but this wasn't until the very end of the game (and we never found the staff). I suspect if I had played as the Drow monk, the cloaked Drow in the Purple Wyrm Inn (available at the start of Act II) would have granted her some special abilities - she wouldn't talk to us as the other characters.
This game seemed to have a smaller variety of creatures and more repetitiveness with who you fought. I thought there was a long stretch in Act II where we seemed to be fighting nothing but goblins and wolves. And the bosses, for the most part, were pretty easy to defeat, especially in the elemental planes of Act III. The most difficult bosses were the crimson armored chick (who used bullet-time to kick our butts) and the green dragon. The rest, including Mordock, we were able to easily defeat with one attempt. Eldrith in the first game was a better game-ending boss as she didn't reveal herself until the very end and looked much more menacing.
We just started playing Norrath and are already enjoying it as much as DA1, and more than DA2. DA2 is a good game and a worthy rental if you have a weekend to spare, but despite the additions, I think DA1 had better pacing and was more challenging.
Strengths: customizable weapons, more playable characters
Weaknesess: too short, less challenging than its predecessor
This game is better than the first!!!!

The second installment of Baldur's Gate is even better than the first one. The graphics are better, the game is better and its fun!
I really enjoyed the first one, but I've waited a long time to play the second installment and believe me it was worth the wait. This is one of the best RPG games I've ever played.
Excellent Fun for 2 Players!!

If you are looking for a game that two people can play together, this is it. Baldur's Gate 2 has a great story line that follows the earlier game Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. This game is much longer, has more worlds to explore, more levels and extra characters to play.
The only flaw that we have found is that any money collected is shared between two players vs. each player collecting their own riches as in the first game. When upgrading armor and weapons it would have been nice if $$ didn't have to be shared.
Beyond that this game is great when you want to have more than one person involved in the game play! I would reccomend this game for those who love cooperative play games!
Even more fun the the original!

This is a great game! If you liked the first Dark Alliance game, then you will certainly like this one as well. New characters, new weapons, new spells, new quests. What more could you want? If you own the first game, then you have to get this one as well.
