Aw Gawd, not again...To think how many hours I have productively wasted on this series throughout the years. It's disturbingly great. It's been far too long since I've felt the sweet purity of the klack till 5 in the morning. I am anxiously looking forward to having the life sucked from me courtesy of that oh so dear sweet tender computer screen. Carpal Tunnel, I await your mercy. I'm thinking that this investement will save me $$$ considering I anticipate that the need to go out will dwindle sharply. Who needs friends...I have computer. Yay!!!
Fresh look for an old kick'in classic

I pre-ordered this game a while ago. I was very anxious to see if they could improve on an already cool game. I was not disappointed! Some of the pro's were, improved graphics( They Rock!), higher resolution as well, instead of waiting for seven days to get the next weeks critters you get them incrementally. If, say, you get 24 archers a week and you've already cleared out what you had, the next day there will be a few more, and the next a few more, etc... This is a good feature so that you always have at least a few troops available to defend against an annoying hero with a tiny army who just happens to show up right after you left with all your garrison with you. Another neat feature is the roaming monsters. If you are close to a monster(s) who is,for example, guarding a gold mine, the monster may well charge after you. This adds excitement and unpredictability to the game. Another nice feature is that the "life" towns hero's, with the ressurection magic can automaticly raise dead after a battle the same as Necromancers, but unlike the necromancer who raises enemy dead, the priest raises their own dead. Speaking of the Necromancers, they start by raising skeletons, then it goes to ghosts, then vampires! Maybe more but I'm still learning this version.
Anyway, there are a few downsides. First They don't have a random map maker like they had in Heroes III. They have a campaign editor that works like the editor in Starcraft, which is painfully slow and cumbersome. I hope if they do any upgrades that they will include a map generator. This gives the game inexhaustive replayability. Secondly, this may just be me, but I wish that there was some way to limit the amount of towns. In Civ III you could choose to raze an unwanted town or keep it. This may be too problematic, but I hate running too many towns. In an eight player game there may be a dozen or more towns!
Well, I think this game is really good. If you liked Heroes III then you will really dig this one. Without the random map maker I rate this a 4.5 stars. Since I couldn't choose that, I put 5 stars
Another wonderful addition to my favorite game series

As with each of the other new versions 3DO/NWC has added a lot of new stuff, the most significant being that heroes are active participants in combat. This has been a litte diconcerting at first because "my formula" for winning has to dramatically change. I'm still learning, and getting my butt kicked sometimes. I think magic skills are more important than combat ones for the heroes (that way the hero can sit back and lob spells in to the combat rather than wander in and get killed).
I think this is the last time that the Heroes games can get more complicated before they will start going downhill (Like many other game series).
But once again all of the new stuff and new challenges in the game will take a while to fully learn and understand but that's a big part of the fun. If you have played the previous versions and liked them...this is an absolute must get. If you never played any of the Heroes games, ACT QUICKLY...go buy III imediately before it gets to hard to find (its cheap these days), and a year from now when you've played all the scenarios and campaigns buy Heroes IV.
Oh well, enough review writing...my black dragons are waiting to go fight and are getting impatient LOL...tot to go.
Different, but that's not always bad.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 was one of my favorite games of all time. This game is not as good but it still is far above most games.
New things-
Heroes can fight and customizing them is much more fun.
You choose between high lv units. adds lots of strategy
Map editor is huge and in depth
Old things that are gone
No upgrades
The 2dish system, now its isometric
I don't think that this game has ruined the series in the least. It could use a few more units but other then that it is nearly perfect. The campaigns are good and keep you going (one of em is really sad) and the units are more creative A+

I have literally 100's and 100's of video games. I am a video game fanatic and very picky. Ever since Heroes of Might and Magic (#1) has come out, nary a day has gone by where I don't give at least 1 or 2 hours to the platform. I have played Heroes of Might and Magic 3, 1000's of times, and find it to be the best game I have ever played. Heroes of Might and Magic 4 goes a step further. I am proud to have been able to have an advanced copy, and GET READY FOR A MIND BLOWER. This game (like the platform), literally takes the gamer and puts him in a different world. I personally forget I am human and live on Earth when I play this blockbuster. A must for the Fantasy Role Playing person, or RPG fanatic, and it blows, BALDER'S GATE 2 away, in that it is user friendly, has easy tutorials, right clicking assists in commands, total fun, never boring, EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE, and I predict 3DO will sells millions of this game. ... and I feel this game should give 3DO the boost and recognition it needs. WOW, I'm so stoked. I'm going back to play again. (I haven't slept since I got this game)
IT'S THE BEST GAME EVER MADE, I promise.
Having actually played the game....

I bought the game this weekend and while I have only put in about 2 hours of playing time I am EXTREMELY impressed and can't wait for the hours to whither away at work so I can go home and play some more.
If you've played Heroes II or Heroes III get ready for a VERY different game. Although they have lessened the number of monsters available in the game they have significantly raised the quality of the monster in the game. Almost all of the monster's have special abilities or some unique trait, even the lowly peseants.
The playing controls all still seem to be there from the older games however they are moved around the screen some to give more screen to informational things and maps.
Overall it's a VERY cool game and I'm glad I paid the price to play it now instead of waiting 6 months for the price to drop like I usually do.
Wonderful.

I started off less than impressed and slowly I've grown very fond of it.
I've played HOMM I, II, and III, and IMHO, this is the best one. It is chalk full of subtleties.
I do miss the combat grid.
I'm very impressed with how balanced it is too.
I love the campaigns so far. Very big and challenging without being boring.
The new spells are fun. In previous versions, you would develop a pattern and stick to it. I've used two completely different spell strategies in two campaigns and both are interesting and fun.
I love the character skill development. Offers interesting choices and radically different combat strategies depending on the skills chosen.
I'm very happy with it.
Great game ! One dissapointment.

I think this game needs to be the game of the year.
OK, the graphics aren`t great but not bad either.
I had played "Heroes of Might and magic III". It drived me crazy: one good step, win the battle and the victory is yours!
Heroes IV is quite the same but it has more challenges, more options, more new characters and more monsters and different cities.
The option to decide, which monsters you want to create in your
cities, is nice too.
I was very impressed that the heroes in the game can change their
clsses to more advanced ones : like a soccerer becomes a fireguard and then becomes a warlock.
So, what is my dissapointment from this game ? well, it might seem to you laughable, but I don't like that this game doesn't have monster upgrading.
So "3DO" did it again with another great game.
So, BUY THIS GAME!
Could Life Get Any Better?

Heroes 4, that's the sweetest thing I've heard in a long time. I'm a big fan of the fantasy genre of gaming and the Heroes is one of the best games I've played, well, ever. Even though its hard to get the exact specifics on the game, I do know that the game has changed almost all of its castles, I like that. And, along with that, comes the troop changes which is always welcome.I'm a little worried though about the details of the game that might spoil certain aspects of it. First and foremost, the heroes series is the only PC games that has a hotseat option (multiplayer on one computer)and that's important.
Along with that, I'm looking forward to the new array of heroes available to play, but hope to see some of the old ones as well. Besides those minor worries, I see Heroes of Might and Magic IV to be a great game in the future. I just hope 3DO doesn't let me, er . . . us, down.
INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
