An Unfortunate disappointment

We purchased a copy of Disciples 2 a while back hoping to stave off the Heroes addiction just a few more weeks until we could get a "fix" of the real thing when HoMM4 was released. When Heroes finally was in our posession I wasted no time in installing it and starting what I thought was going to be a series of days, weeks or possibly even months of "just one more turn". My wife and I found that we were immediatly dissapointed with the changes that had been made in HoMM4.
The graphics while more detailed had become cartoonish. The main interface took up way to much real estate on my screen, even after setting it to it's highest resolution. The interface also requires to much hunting and searching for information that should be "at your fingertips". You shouldn't have to exit the battle and go through 2 other actions to see how much experience you just gained, it should be right there on the battle summary screen. You shouldn't have to go to another screen to see how many experience points you have and how close you are to leveling up.
None of these are major problems with the game, but there are just too many of this little anoyances. When taken all together they add up to one disappointing gaming experience.
My wife and I have found ourselves no longer playing HoMM4. We have returned to playing Disciples 2(No it's not perfect either but it is good).
For sale: One very slightly used copy of Heroes of Might and Magic 4
Don't believe zenphil: Heroes are plenty strong

After reading zenphil's comment I can only conclude that he is a lousy player.
I'm just an average player myself, but I have played Heroes4 many, many times and have had no trouble at all keeping my heroes alive. He's simply wrong about the AI targeting your hero every time -- that's just not so. And if you develop your heroes properly, they can become awesomely powerful.
It would be a shame if ill-considered criticism like this keeps you from playing this great game.
Nothing special

This is a good game, not a great game. I still feel Heroes III was a better game all around.

O AND ANYONE WHO HELPED MAKE THIS GAME MIGHT HAVE READ THIS REVIEW U SHOULD GET UP AND PUT ON WAT I PREFERED AND SO MANY OTHERS DID 2.

Heroes 4, that's the sweetest thing I've heard in a long time. I'm a big fan of the fantasy genre of gaming and the Heroes is one of the best games I've played, well, ever. Even though its hard to get the exact specifics on the game, I do know that the game has changed almost all of its castles, I like that. And, along with that, comes the troop changes which is always welcome.I'm a little worried though about the details of the game that might spoil certain aspects of it. First and foremost, the heroes series is the only PC games that has a hotseat option (multiplayer on one computer)and that's important.
Along with that, I'm looking forward to the new array of heroes available to play, but hope to see some of the old ones as well. Besides those minor worries, I see Heroes of Might and Magic IV to be a great game in the future. I just hope 3DO doesn't let me, er . . . us, down.
Poor job by 3do. This is not Heroes, but a all new game.

I was upset and disapointed with this game. The change was far more then needed, or wanted. I wanted more of the same and yet 3do made a completely different game here. I have been playing Heroes for years and would not have paid the price for this game If I had known it was going to be so different. Sorry 3do but to me you screwed up big time with this one.

A typical adventure game takes advantage of previous Might and Magic ideas to creat the best game yet.
A real great game. People familiar with previous games will get all they expected plus more.
This game takes creatures to the max. Old gamers will recognize all their favorites. This game also has a great selection of artifacts.

First, i always play with my roommate over TCP/IP. Luckily i only bought one copy to check it out. It would seem that TCP/IP isnt coming out until a later date (and NO they havent released that date...could be years). I was sadly dissappointed i have been following its arrival since it was SUPPOSED to come out late sept, then nov, then dec, and finally march. I rushed out and bought this piece of junk
As with others i have to agree that the graphics are far better... "EXCEPT" when you are fighting creatures and the likes...then it looks awful
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DONT BUY THIS IF YOU INTEND TO PLAY VIA MODEM OR INTERNET.
Great game!

This is a great game. The first time I played it, I thought it was terrible. A while later, I got the expansion and looked into it a little closer. Now I play it all the time with my friend and single payer. It's a great game, like I said. Especially with the expansion (and codes, if you know where to look) you should buy this now!

This game is a must have. It combines the proven HOMM strategy with all new options. Bottom line, they kept everything good and improved graphics, editors, sounds, and generally what makes the game enjoyable. Not to mention minor adjustments to the strategy that make it the best TBS, if not the best game of this year. Even if you are not a hardcore gamer, the game is easy to learn and enjoyable to everyone. People who have not played Heroes 4 are just ignorant when it comes to pc gaming.
