The maps and intricacy beats everyone!

One thing Unreal has that Quake 3 doesn't is the maps (gaming environments/levels.) I'm continually blown away by their awesome graphics and ingenuity. Gameplay itself is also more complex, with a wider array of weapons and other options.

Some may disagree, but Unreal is more strategic than Q3. Of course, both require immense amounts of skill, Unreal is not as "In-Your-Face-Kill-Kill-Kill." This is especially true in some of the available Unreal mods (free, downloadable sub-games with different rules and goals than the retail version) like Counter Strike. The complexity of the maps and gameplay attributes to this most fundamental difference between the games.

Of course the flip side of this, is that deathmatch and capture-the-flag modes seem slightly more artificial than in Q3, in regards to the player-to-player intimacy of the game.

Usually it comes down to personal preference. People tend to like one or the other. Q3 is my fav, gameplay is just more carefree. But even so, I player Unreal as well. The games just have two different personalities...both are great.

I reccommend to get both (You can never have enough games, especially good ones.) And with any multiplayer game, explore the fan sites, download additional maps and mods, and immerse yourself in the experience.

It's all about fun.

UT, best fun on the internet

This game has the best variety in game play vs. all the other first person shooters. It is probably the most fun to play over the internet, especially capture the flag. The maps and graphics are outstanding and the weapons variety has no equal compared to any unmodified first person shooter. I must say that Quake 3 is a dissapointment when compared to Unreal Tournament, however, the game play is faster in Q3, but UT is far more fun.

CD-ROM but NOT DVD compatible

Although UT is, by far, a fantastic game to play (esp. internet play), one has to keep in mind that the installation disk will only work properly with a bona fide 'CD-ROM' and not a 'DVD-ROM' player (I thought DVD were CD-ROM, but better_ I was wrong) So beware those of you who have a DVD, installation will not work properly (crash, hang etc...) I hear it's a similar story with 'CD-R' drives..... ( I tried, and failed again)

I love this game, so happy i found it

I just revisited this game because I had such good memories of it. The variety of game types, the variety of weapons, the beauty of the maps, and the bot AI makes it the ultimate competitive FPS. It's all about the Tournament. And there are so many different kinds of tournament games to play, against real people or bots.

What's also very nice is the ability to set up your own favorite kind of practice session, with bots of your choosing, on whatever map you want. So, for example, you can play capture the flag, you alone against a large army of stupid bots, or a single insanely good bot. Or you can have a bot team, and give them commands. Or you can just set up a bots-only competition, and just watch them go at it.

I've played endlessly on the Capture the Flag - Facing Worlds map, and it still hasn't gotten old. New and interesting things happen each time I play. For each kind of bot-team, you need to fight with a different strategy.

And don't forget that the game screams on today's machines -- smooth as silk, and very pretty. Who needs better graphics?

Seems the game designers thought about everything you'd like to do, and they let you do it. The experience you'll get with this game is better than what you'll get from many newer games that tax your machine to the limit.

If you like FPS's, just buy. Unreal Tournament is a gift from the game gods.

THE BEST competition FPS game ever created.

I bought this game when I had an old Pentium II back in 1999. It was just simply fun, just fire and kill the other guy, not the fancy hi-tech, complicated thing that this genre has become. I wasted many hours playing online with people all over the world!. The best FPS to play online ever created. Period.
