Not impressed...

I'm not at all impressed by Unreal Tournament. It isn't a bad game by no means. Although, I didn't find the game half as Quake 3 is. It does have a lot of features, and both the graphics and interface are nice. But it just seems like the exact same game to me with updated visuals and some new modes. Only get this if you were a fan of Unreal, not a just a fan of multiplayer first-person shooter. It plays and looks too much like Unreal, it's not much of an improvement. It is cheap though.

Booooooooooooooo!

I have not played the full version of UT, but I can take a guess at what it would be like. I have, however "played" the demo. The reason I put played in quotes is the game was a slug. It seemed to stop to load every three seconds or so. I don't whether it was an issue with my system, but something can definitely be said about a game which loads constantly. Even if the game did work on my computer, I still would not like it. I lknow this because I played a working version (it still loaded too often) at another person's house. There is no storyline and no character involovment. I like a little story to follow along. UT and Quake 3 are the shallowest games I've ever played. All they are is run, shoot, run, shoot, run, shoot. This gets boring nearly immediatly for me.

If you like every-man-for-himself deathmatch, this is it.

Unreal Tournament is and example of the direction leading edge PC games are going. This game has great graphics, nice high-tech ambience, and some ingenious levels to play in. However, the team play in this game is not as good as those as "Team Fortress Classic" or "Starsiege: TRIBES," but for pure deathmatch, and some off-ine play with the best AI in a first-person shooter to date, get this game.

Can You Say, Number One?

Unreal Tournament. A game that cannot be expressed through words or expression but the only single solitary word of awsome. Graphics are out of this world, the gameplay and controll is amazing. The sound is extremely neat. If there was a battle between Unreal Tournament and Quake 3: Arena, then take out your redeemer and get a headshot cause UT blasts away the competition. The stages must have taken years to develop because they are so evenly distributed and if you want the coolest internet experience in the world, then you have to test drive this baby. The guns are amazing. Sure, to Quake 3 fans this game looks corny and looks like a photo-copied print of it, but it is not. It is totally different. I think Quake might have to bow down to the new king of the arena, UNREAL TOURNAMENT. Save up your money and buy it today!

This game is truly a great game and a classic. This game gives endless entertainment and great graphics. Although it's very addicting,it never wears out. Offering many fun and awesome worlds and many heavy and huge weapons. This game does not have extreme gore, you can change the settings and it is not that bad in the first place. This is a masterpiece. I love it. I think this is one of the best first-person shooters i've ever played.

Thumbs up, but no Cuban cigar.

Now, this is what I'm talking about. Finally, a company that can A) Design a solid game, balanced and all and B) Find a balance between good looking and playability for those of us that don't have an Athlon (Yet, hehehehe, hopefully). I believe this what a 3d action game should be. The weapons are more destructive than the weak predecessors of Unreal, while not being the "hand of god," like in Quake 3. There is a good balance of large, small, and medium levels, with fantastic level design and architecture. In my opinion, the Q3 level design is a weak attempt at moody and dark levels (ok, so the fog is neat). The netcode is beyond phenominal, it is amazing how lightning quick it runs with MORE than 8 players in a game. BUT . . I believe that there is nothing terribly new or ingenius about Unreal Tournament. It has done a fine job as a game, no doubt. But the concept of 3d action still stays true, with some refinement. I do believe, that games like Rogue Spear and it's predecessor, Rainbow 6, are pathing the road for a new creed of 3d games. 3d tactical games, this is however an opinion.

Great game, incredibly stable!

I bought this a while back because I wanted an inexpensive, LAN capable multiplayer game that wasn't dreadful.
UT fulfilled all the requirements perfectly.
Three weeks ago, we put UT on five different machines, ranging from bare system requirements to far beyond. There was absolutely no lag or jumping frames throughout.
Actual gameplay is a blast. Weapons are well balanced and suited to almost anyone's style of combat- from the close-quarters effectiveness of the Enforcers to the long-range sniper rifle.
Defualt keyboard controls are well thought out and easy to learn, altough the stock joystick layout leaves much to be deisred.
Levels are mostly good, though some multiplayer maps are extremely large and confusing, even for five people.
All in all, this game is well worth buying.

excellente

I played the demo for this from a PC Gamer CD, and instantly fell in love. I don't know what drew me toward this marvel, however at 10 am on the release date, I was anxiously waiting outside my local software store. I enjoy the myriad of exotic weapons, the smooth level design, and especially the level editor included on the second CD. The Unreal Engine is extremely flexible and a joy to work with, allowing me to dish out many interesting effects. About the only thing I do not like about the game is the enhanced (instagib) shock rifle. It's unimpressive, fires a half-second after you hit the button (of course that might be the lag), and just doesn't do well in combat. About the only thing the that made the instagib rifle more appealing was the Akimbo Instagib mod (which is availiable from a third party programmer).

This is the best FPS EVER! Warm up against the computer, then after a few months of training (you'll need it!) head online for some REAL competition!

This game has it all - several different modes of play (Deathmatch, Capture The Flag, Assult, LAST MAN STANDING!!!, etc), tons of levels, a practice mode, difficulty settings...the list goes on and on. And if you decide that's not enough - go online and download thousands of other levels and modifications to fit your needs!

The only "problem" with the game - system requirements. You need at LEAST a 500 mhz processor, a good graphics card helps a lot, pleny of hard drive space (for all those downloads of course!), and the most important thing of all - FAST internet connection. Don't even bother playing online with a 56k, you'll probably never win. You'll notice as you play that the people with the best connection wins EVERY time. Cable modem or DSL is the only way to go (unless you're lucky to have a T1 or T3 at work). Then you can hang with the best of them!
