WATCH OUT when buying this for Laptop use!!

Okay --

So I bought this program yesterday, happy as a clam.

I installed it on my Sony Vaio laptop last night (P3, 650 MHz, 256K RAM, 12gig HD) and it ran like glue!

I called Red Storm this morning to try and figure this problem out, and the conversation got nasty quickly. My call ended with someone named 'Zeke' stating 'we don't support laptops'.

It turns out, in a round-about way, that most laptops CAN'T support the 3D graphics of such programs. Nothing of this sort is stated on the box -- just an obscure reference, 'check our website for supported graphics cards'. How could anyone reasonably expect that this program wouldn't run on a smokin' multi-media laptop?? They couldn't!

Thus, I am STUCK with this program. No returns, no refunds, nothing. The tech-support people expected me as a normal consumer to have complex knowledge of the video drivers in my laptop -- something the sales rep. at the store didn't even have! Also, the tech. guy said as long as the program booted, regardless of the run-quality of the program, Red Storm viewed this as a quality sale. WHATEVER -- that's like selling a car that will drive, but not over 30 MPH!!!

Okay then -- buy this program at your own risk -- because Red Storm certainly won't help you after the sale.

Crashes all the time and freezes the computer (900 MHz, 512 MB RAM, GF2-64 MB). Red Storm admits that "technical issues" exist with NVIDIA cards, but offers no solution. It turns out that the same "issues" exist with some sound cards. Reading the red storm`s FAQ I found that the same problems happen to all their action games meaning they use for years the same buggy game engine without improvement. Probably at red storm they think the hardware should be optimized for the game. Wrong. Try to write better software, guys. Never had such problems before with any other game.
From the few missions I was able to play: graphics is OK, the AI is weak. The gameplay is somewhat dumb, you can`t play a new mission if you have not succeeded the previous one. And some missions are extremely hard to pass because the terrorists kill the hostage immediately if they see or hear you. If the hostage is killed, you have to start over from the very beginning. But this is ridiculous, of course in the ideal mission no hostages should be harmed but in the real life they often are, unfortunately. Communications with the elements and giving orders are useless.
Strongly recommend SWAT 3 instead.

Can Be Alot Better

We all heard of the action game winner of 98 rainbow six.But once we come to the year 99 Redstorm Entertainment brings out the sequal for this amazing and realistic stradegy game.I think that it is all the same of nothing although Redstorm put a lot of effort into this game but it is actually just an add-on to the first of the game series. If I had the choice between Rainbow Six and Swat3 my choice would be Swat3. The game is good and also an amazing multiplayer experience this will keep you up several nights but it is not THE HIT.

Overrrated, too difficult and hard to play.

This is a superb shooting game with lots of realism and strategy incoprorated. Graphics are great as is choice of team-mates and weaponary. I guess that it pretty realstic in a lot of ways as your team mates get in your way, and the terrorists are not as stupid as they are on some other games - they will shoot at you as soon as they see you. But there are times when you shoot at a terrorist and he doesn't die but shoots you instead. It seems to be a problem with the game. There are lots or really weird glitches too. You see dead terrorists levitating and half of them stuck through walls and their legs hanging down through the roof etc. I find it irritating that the designers take so much care to make tyres go down when you shoot them, and different sounds when you shoot a bed or a window, but then so little detail is given to other aspects such as the lights which don't go out if you shoot them. I have never seen lights like that. "Goldeneye" has lights that pop so why doesn't this? A lot of this game is just too difficult to win at. In addition, you get a mission such as the one at the datcha where you must avoid detection - this is really difficult. The idea is to plant a bug and a camera and leave as though you've never even been there. You can go round and shoot al the windows out and still complete the level...and no one will notice that there are windows missing, glass everywhere and bullet holes in the walls? My point is, if you are going to go for realism then go all the way, or not at all. My low rating for this game is due to the problems I have had playing it on the PC. I think it's a game with really great potential, but you end up waiting all the time while the computer makes grinding sounds which freeze your action, but while you are frozen it really impedes playability and you end up getting shot because you can't react. Unplayable due to this, and I have a powerful computer, so that's not the problem. This is overambitious for the PC market, and there are things that need rethinking to make it a better game.

Don't believe the hype.

Though visually stunning, Rogue Spear ha the worste game AI I have ever stumbled across. The "incredible" AI was one of the games selling points. mission success depends on how much you are able to keep your team-mates from doing anything. I love when they throw grenades in rooms with hostages. The enemies are no better. They apparrently have no way of communicating with each other so you can go through a mission removing them one at a time. Sometimes they don't even react when you kill the guy he's looking at.

let me go straight to the point.
idea is great but the technology that bring this game to you
will un doudtedly make speak ill of this company if you have
voodoo or slow pc.
it only uses d3d .
thats even worse than "quake1".
d3d is extremely
cpu dependent...at least quake1,2 had a very fast 2d graphics
but rogue spear's 2d is as bad as the rainbowsix original's.
when you in stall the whole thing in to the rogue spear folder
it will install 9800files + some more. with the same hard ware i could play counter strike or q3 with lesser fragmentation of the
hdd... and it's painful to wait for the win98se to defrag when there is extra 9800files in a single directory with many more sub directories.
d3d is bad... opengl, glide is good.
but if u have geforce2mx or faster nvidia graphics cards with fast cpu go ahead it was made for you..but do not forget 9800files in your hdd. if u have small or slow hdd get away from this game.
first person anti-terrorism.
planning in group level with total control over the three side groups...cool.

minimum hardware requirement is
p2-400 128mb ram geforce 2 mx or tnt2m64 (32mbsdram)
fast hdd (very fast and stable )
and ...alpha,bravo,charlie,delta.

After I tried the demo, I don't want to buy the full version

The main purpose of demos is to allow people to try the games. It is intended to attract hardcore gamers to buy the full-version. Of course, demos must be stable and good in quality. Unfortunately, this is not the case for Rogue Spear.

I tried the demo twice and my system crashed twice. I guess that has already explained everything. How can I buy the full version if I am not impressed with the demo?

Although the graphics and sound effects are excellent, the game's stability is highly questionable. I know that there are so many positive reviews for this game, but there are several negative reviews too. Before you spend $40+ for this game, I recommend you to read the review on gamespot

Ok I bought this game almost a year ago and I still play it but it does get tiring. The best thing about the game is when you play online at the zone it is worth it but now I am sick of it.

I put a 3 ecause I am tired of playing it now but when I first got it it would have been a 5. If you want details then it has good graphics no problems and thats all.

First person sneaker, A clone of Thief The dark project. Sneak behind the bad guys and shoot them with a silencer, One flash bang weapon is just like the flash bomb in thief. The graphics and sound are good. The bad guys are very sharp shooters and just one shot is enough to get you down and you cant save the game in the middle of the mission. Single player gameplay is very difficult as you need atleast 4 persons to finish a mission.

Falls short due to lack of content

Rainbow six is an impressive and awe inspiring game. It is fun to play and very addicting. However this module has a limited number of senarios and the time to cost benefit is minimal. If you liked rainbow six this is a must have. But there should ahve been more content. Treuly the scenery is magnificent, but who buys a game for scenery. I would like to see more missions and more varity. It pales next to the orignal
