Just as the other rainbow six's were great, this one is just the same, same gameplay and graphics, I was ammused with the new weapons, such as the sniper rifles and the automatic shotgun, in this one you really need to take your time and come up with good planing, this one is a little more difficult than the others but is worth it.
Realistic Without Sacrificing Gameplay or Fun

This was the first first person shooter I ever played that used a mouse to aim, needless to say, it got me hooked to the genre.
My favorite thing about this game is how realistic it is. It's definately probaby the most realistic first person shooter I've ever played (next to Day of Defeat.) But not only that, it was achieved WITHOUT sacrificing gameplay or limiting fun. It's hard to do, yet it was achieved in this game.
The graphics are also very nice, my older computer (I don't know the specs) was able to run the game quite well when it had problems with most other games.
I can't really think of anything negative to say about this game.
It deserves a chance.

This game has done something very few games have been able to do , it has become better than its original maker. Many game companies in a hurry to make a profit, don't put as much effort or creativity into their sequels of their games, but Red Storm Entertainment isn't one of them!!!!
Reasons why this is hands down better than the original and quite possibly the best game of the 90's: Challenging missions that combine not only action but strategy. Rainbow Six was the first game where you could actually plan out youre mission and execute it just like a top secret military team would in real life. The graphics and sound in Rogue Spear (if you can believe it) are better than the original:
Team members talk more during tense situations ("It's ok you're safe"), their movements are very lifelike, they can blink and breathe just like a real person. You see them enter a room carefully for any danger, then they follow their plan. Before you begin a level you are treated to a musical score to get you pumped up for the action!!! It is simply inspiring.
The levels are breathtaking, in the First level you go inside a Museum taking by Middle Eastern Terrorists, in the Second level you are on ship and must not only prevent a bomb from being detonated, but rescue the hostages in the ship!!
Replay Mode for every mission. This is my favorite part of the game where you can look at how well or bad you completed a mission. My only complaint of the original Rainbow Six is that after you completed a mission there wasn't anything more to look at. With the replay mode, you can watch youre completed mission over and over again. Get some popcorn ready. :-)
The challenge would give even the most experienced game player , hours and hours to try to beat even a single level. (Try playing on Elite/Veteran)
Oh yes and there is network support for it too over the net. Multiplayer options include saving youre team captain from the enemy, wiping out youre opponents team, and a whole bunch of stuff.
You will need a 3d accelerator card, like the Voodoo 3000, otherwise the game wont look 3d and the maps and characters wont look crisply textured.
Finally, there are several mission packs for Rogue Spear.
This is what 3d gaming is all about!!!
If you're looking for an action packed game with a challenge, you're search is over. Haha.
Best Game That Is Out There!

Rogue Spear is the most packed action PC game that I played yet. It takes you misson by misson, saving the hostages and killing the terrorists. I have to explain how awesome it is!
There are new places you get to travel around, at the airport, in buildings etc! See, its much better when you play online to tell you the truth. Meet new people and even play with your friends. Go one on one with each other or teams. Get to pick out your own weapons and gender and even vote which level to go to. This is pretty much like Socom on PS2.
Im a girl and I think its still cool even if im not a guy. This is NOT waste of your money.
cool game

Everyone who likes shooters should buy this game IT'S SO MUCH FUN
AND EASY TO BEAT. Even if you are bad at this game you can use codes like god or invisibility. Like you need codes it's already easy enough. But isn't sniping, recon and raiding missions awesome. I gave this a 4 because it's to short, needs better graphics, more enemies in levels, and it needs to be less messed up. Watch out the replays don't work sometimes it says your killing tangos even though your shooting at a wall!!!!!!!!!!!
Classic!

The first online game I played was Rogue Spear. This game is so fun. Of course there is higher technologys and better games now, but this game is still one of my favorites. It's a great fun doing the single player campaign and this game isn't a sleezy game where is takes 10 shots to kill you. This game is realistic. You get shot once in the arm, you are inqured and slowly dying, you walk slower and all that. You get shot through the chest or head, you are dead. It's not letting you get a whole MG round to the chest and survive like other games.
For any military lover, this game is and will always be a fun game
Great game

Along with Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament, this is the only major PC game I've ever gotten into. I enjoyed this as much as the other two. I also have the Urban Operations add-in mission pack, which adds a ton of other scenarios, and is definitely worth getting too, and well worth the price. This game also didn't load down my computer, and worked well performance-wise on my then new system (purchased in Jan. of 2000) although I only had a minimal 4-meg video card in my PC at the time. I have a 32-meg GeForce 2 at this point with the two crossbar memory controllers, quad cache, lossless Z-compression, fast Z-clear, and Z-occlusion culling visibility subsystem, which still isn't quite good enough to do Unreal Tournament at anything but the lowest resolution settings, but it's still a nice-looking game even at that level. For that you'll need a GeForce 4, which has twice the number of crossbar controllers and other more advanced architectural features. Anyway, not to wax too nerdy on the video tech specs, but Rogue Spear is a great game, and the best thing I've seen in the urban ops and urban terror category.
A worthy successor

Despite being rushed into stores a bare year after Rainbow Six appeared, Rogue Spear manages to be a very good game in its own right. Since you probably know the premise and gamestyle, I'll dig right to the meat of this review.
First off, the bad news. It shoud be noted that Rogue Spear is not an easy game. While it doesn't touch the insanity-inducing difficulties that Ghost Recon and its expansions rose to it can still be hard for casual gamers. This isn't necessarily bad, but players should be aware. Aside from this, the only major flaw in the game is (of course) the bugs. Just like in Rainbow Six, there is an odd bug where you can unload an entire clip into a baddie with no effect before he blows you away. Very annoying, especially in hostage rescue situations. I also experienced random crashes to the desktop. Any ambient noises (ie, rain, crickets, howling wind) remained afterwards. I'm not sure what causes this. Also somewhat unrealistic (for a game that pushes realism) is the ability of some of the enemies...those Japanese eco-terrorists are remarkabale shots with automatic weapons, being able to shoot and kill you at 200 feet with the wind howling around you. But that's about it for the negative.
And the positive--first, the gameplay is positively addicting. Even though the primary formula remains mostly the same (go in, shoot bad people, don't get shot by bad people), it is disguised in numerous variating scenarios. In addition, there are the uber-challenging recon missions, which require you to infiltrate a hide-out and plant bug completely undetected by guards. Furthermore, the graphics and sound are top-notch (or they were three years ago). In snow, your men leave footprints both outdoors and (for a time, until the snow dries) indoors, and their breath fogs. There are also some great new weapons (such as the badly needed sniper rifles) that will be familiar to any who played the NATO mod for the original--the Styr Aug and the .50 Caliber Barretta rifle come to mind. The planning phase (one of my favorit features) is just as smooth as the original--if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Finally, the missions themselves are original and well-done. You'll visit, among other places, an oil tanker, a hi-jacked 747, an opera house, and a TV studio. Perhaps the best-done mission is the harrowing fight set in a destroyed Kosovo villiage--it feels like Ghost Recon.
Overall, this is a game I would reccomend to anybody. Only those few niggling bugs kept me from giving it 5 stars.

Rogue Spear is an exciting version of realistic special ops teams in the line of fire. You are commanding the head officer of a team. Before each mission you slowly plan each AI team members' actions, from throwing a grenade, to sniping.
Overall, this game was a hit for the producers. It has many glitches in it, but it is still a great game for shooting adicts world-wide. I also enjoy this game online. It is a favorite for online gamers too. I would rate this a four, because of the glitches and that playing it online bites if you have 56K. Besides that it is great!
Years of fun. Literally.

I got Rogue Spear on June 28, 2001. I'm writing this on October 9, 2002. The Rogue Spear CD has hardly left my drive in the past year and a half, and probably won't for some time.
The thing about Rogue Spear is that it somehow manages to be addictive and frustrating at the same time. You could find yourself playing a mission over and over all evening without ever winning, when all you need is a change of approach.
The game takes place in two stages. First you create a detailed plan. If you aren't the sort who likes that sort of thing you could just use the default ones. You have absolute control over eight operatives -- from their uniforms to the ammunition in their secondary weapon.
Then you go in and start shooting terrorists. The action is simultaneously fast and slow. You walk around at a realistic pace and can't jump around like in other shooters, but when you see the target, whoever fires first lives. You don't have extra lives, or powerups, or anything of the sort. If you take a round in the head, you generally die. If you take one in the leg, you limp about.
There's a good amount of kit to choose from. There are plenty of uniforms, and you can even define how much body armour you and your teammates wear. You have a fair choice of weapons. You carry a primary -- a submachine-gun, assault rifle or sniper's rifle -- and a pistol. All guns are realistic (for a computer game, anyway) and accurately reflect what you see in the hands of soldiers on TV :). You also carry two 'special items' -- grenades, flashbangs, ammo -- that sort of thing.
Gameplay isn't just running around shooting things. If a single hostage dies, you lose. When an operative dies, he doesn't come back for later missions.
Another nice feature is the mod system -- not as refined as the one in Rogue Spear's expansion pack 'Urban Operations' -- but at least it extends the replay value.
Rogue Spear is, basically, one of those game that you should feel stupid for not having played all this while. You can get games with better graphics nowadays, but you ought to pick this up anyway, because the gameplay -- both singleplayer and multiplayer -- is the best I've seen to date.
