Best Action Game EVER = Rogue Spear

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 3

This is the only game I have ever played that actually made me break out into a cold sweat during gameplay. It will make you jump out of your seat when you get shot by a terrorist. Very realistic. If you are sick of quake-like games which take almost no intelligence to play (i.e. all you do is hold down the trigger) then this game is for you. You must observe your target's well or you are toast. It makes you feel like you are actually in the field with your finger on the trigger.

A Kickass Ride!

So you've come here to know a little more about this product... I'll give you the low down. At the turn of the millenium the amount of terrorist activities has increased. It is up to RAINBOW a black ops nato anti-terrorist task force with the most elite soldiers in the world. You are one of the team. You must assault different levels and save the lives of the innocent. If they see you coming you will be too late. The weapons you have are your only allies as you take on the most menacing terrorists in the world. The AI in the game will make you wince. One mistake will cost the lives of the hostages and your team. If you play over the internet you will come across your most deadly of foes... your own friends, who truly can and will be ruthless. Buy this game and you will truly know what combat is like.

This is the best tactical shooter game around hands down. I have played Rainbow 6, and this is far better it. more weapons, better graphics, more people in more specialty areas (more assualt, snipers) and improved AI make this almost as close to the real thing. also, multiplayer has more maps and u can have enemy weapons at ur disposal. Some of the new and inporved missions are-a hostage situation in the MET, recon missions which u cannot be seen or kill anyone, and a take down in a hijacked 747. so, i a few words, if u like R6, go buy this now. it will be a few $$$ very well spent.

cool

Essentially a series of extra missions for 'Rainbow Six', this adds some extra weapons and an extremely useful 'crawl' function, the omission of which stuck out like a sore thumb in the original game. The extra weapons (some sniper rifles, a new shotgun, many more assault rifles and some Desert Eagle pistols) are nice to have, but as with the original game you will almost exclusively use your trusty, silent MP5SD5. It has all the strengths of the original - palpable tension, some great mission designs - with some effective new locations. The wrecked, rain-lashed Kosovan city is extremely atmospheric, and there's an obligatory passenger jet-liner hostage crisis, too.

On the down-side, the terrorists (even when they are jumped-up students) are still unbelievably accurate, regularly downing your team-members from a couple of hundred feet away, even when armed with machine-pistols. This may well be how real special forces people train, but it's offputting when you have to play the game. The less-serious 'Delta Force' seemed to get the skill-level of the bad guys right in this respect. As I have said, the extra weapons are cosmetically nice, but only one mission absolutely requires a sniper rifle, and otherwise anything more than a silenced machine-pistol is slower and less useful. Grenades, for example, are amazingly pointless. As with the original, the improved graphics are functional (although the detail of having wounded team members limp is nicely done), and some of the team AI is suspect. Furthermore the thought that you could create the best plan possible, and yet still fail a mission, is unsettling. Indeed the planning section still seems flawed - it would be better if, 'Hidden and Dangerous'-style, you could alter or generate the plan whilst in the action phase to take account of changing circumstance.

Oddly, the stealthy missions, the 'Thief'-esque moments where you must avoid being detected at all costs, are the best of the lot - with the emphasis on solitary skill and sneakery, they're ultra-tense affairs. Another good thing is the 'lone wolf' mode, in which, 'Die Hard'-style, you tackle thirty terrorists in a location solo.

If you have the original, is this worth a further 40 pounds? Not really - you'll probably get it nonetheless, but it's not a major leap forwards. On it's own merits it's excellent, though, a complex strategy / action game with added realism.

The best action game to date

This game the the best in the genere. Although the graphics are not as good as Q3A the gameplay is enough. The ability to plan the assult is almost as much fun as the action. The depth avalable in controling an anti-terrorist team is lightyears beyond the run-and-shoot of the Quake series.

A worthy successor

Despite being rushed into stores a bare year after Rainbow Six appeared, Rogue Spear manages to be a very good game in its own right. Since you probably know the premise and gamestyle, I'll dig right to the meat of this review.

First off, the bad news. It shoud be noted that Rogue Spear is not an easy game. While it doesn't touch the insanity-inducing difficulties that Ghost Recon and its expansions rose to it can still be hard for casual gamers. This isn't necessarily bad, but players should be aware. Aside from this, the only major flaw in the game is (of course) the bugs. Just like in Rainbow Six, there is an odd bug where you can unload an entire clip into a baddie with no effect before he blows you away. Very annoying, especially in hostage rescue situations. I also experienced random crashes to the desktop. Any ambient noises (ie, rain, crickets, howling wind) remained afterwards. I'm not sure what causes this. Also somewhat unrealistic (for a game that pushes realism) is the ability of some of the enemies...those Japanese eco-terrorists are remarkabale shots with automatic weapons, being able to shoot and kill you at 200 feet with the wind howling around you. But that's about it for the negative.

And the positive--first, the gameplay is positively addicting. Even though the primary formula remains mostly the same (go in, shoot bad people, don't get shot by bad people), it is disguised in numerous variating scenarios. In addition, there are the uber-challenging recon missions, which require you to infiltrate a hide-out and plant bug completely undetected by guards. Furthermore, the graphics and sound are top-notch (or they were three years ago). In snow, your men leave footprints both outdoors and (for a time, until the snow dries) indoors, and their breath fogs. There are also some great new weapons (such as the badly needed sniper rifles) that will be familiar to any who played the NATO mod for the original--the Styr Aug and the .50 Caliber Barretta rifle come to mind. The planning phase (one of my favorit features) is just as smooth as the original--if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Finally, the missions themselves are original and well-done. You'll visit, among other places, an oil tanker, a hi-jacked 747, an opera house, and a TV studio. Perhaps the best-done mission is the harrowing fight set in a destroyed Kosovo villiage--it feels like Ghost Recon.

Overall, this is a game I would reccomend to anybody. Only those few niggling bugs kept me from giving it 5 stars.

Very Impressive!

Sequal to the 1998 Action Game of the Year, Rogue Spear is a perfect mix of action, espionage and stratagey. The game picks up with your team, Rainbow, trying to stop the terrors that roam the world. You select from over 25 memebers to create your team, and than select weapons and outfits. You can also plan your own attack, but I found it funner to use the pre-made plans. Once in the heat of the action you can switch between teams, which carry snipers, assualt and electronic experts. In 1 player if a memeber dies, he is no longer accesible. Missions range from a stranded 747 to a TV station. The replay in the game is unbelivable. I got it the day it came out and still have even MORE fun playing it. Each time unlocking new stratagies and tips. There are a variety of modes ranging from lone wolf (just one character) to terrorist hunt. The game plays out like the Tom Clancy films, "Clear and Present Danger" and "Patriot Games" and if you pay attention to the films, even has some of the same charcters. Graphics are superb and sound is amazing. If you crank up the speakers, the game contains moments of absoulutely no sound, to Matrix style shoot-outs. The suspense is amazing. The game uses little music in gameplay to amplify the sound of footsteps and gunshots. When you've been playing a mission for 30 minutes trying to beat it, and you barely escape a sniper, the thrill is amazing. And to later get shot by a terrorist in the shadows is a crushing defeat. If you pick this puppy up, I gurantee it will become one of your best friends.

I played this game for hours, admiring its perfect A1 and nice graphics. It is also an incredible game to play. It has hard puzzles that remind you of the original. The multiplayer is the best ever and I think it is the game of the year, possibly ever.It is worth buying, and when you finally get through all the missions, its worth it,too.
