Why kill people randomly when you can just take their stuff?

Thief: In a word, this game is incredible. Despite the FPS-like controls, this game is far removed from brainless shooters involving portagonists that can take more than a few bullets before they die. Thief is the intelligent FPS that gamers have been waiting for since the birth of the genre.
Gameplay is astounding in both its immersiveness and its originality. The universe Thief is set in is so brimming with personalities, places, and warring factions that an RPG could easily be made from it, and the plot is interesting enough to keep you hooked despite the relatively tacky cut-scenes.
Though graphics leave something to be desired, I would far rather spend my time with Thief than with some brainless eye-candy game.
Loved it

This has been one of the best computer games that I ever played. The two aspects that I liked most was the smooth motion and the level of immersion. I am very much disappointed that this series has come to an end. The other aspect of the game that I enjoyed is the strong story line and the wide variety of strategies available to the player.
Thief ROCKS.. awesome

Designed by team who were among the first to realize that people were getting fed up with wading through 30 hours of mission and than compleating the game. In this game the object is not to KILL EVERYBODY, rather it is to not get caught. While I personally liked the sequal a lot better than I liked the orginal, The Dark Project deserves to be remembered as the first game that tried to this.
Using the shadows you, playing the Master Theif Gareet will win the day. The only thing I didn't like about the game was that you spent more time fighting animals and zombies that actual people.
Overall-Great Game, remember to turn your Gamma controls all the way up guys.
New genre and thank god

Thief: TDP forever changed the course of the FPS genre. It introduced stealth elements never before seen in FPS games and earned the nickname "The thinking man's shooter." I must say that I enjoyed thief2 much better because it stayed away from the supernatural, but thief is still one of my favorite games of all time.
Now about the game itself:
Thief has some of the best sound effects in any game. Sound is a crucial part of the game and the developers did a magnificent job with it. The graphics are a bit out-dated but still do a wonderful job to bring forth the gothic atmosphere of the game. The gameplay is revolutionary and the plot and characters keep you glued to your seat. Amazing game all around.

Theif is a great game. It is definetely worth the money. If you you have ever played this you will love Thief 2. Thief takes some getting used to. You cant just run around and kill anyone you want. Thief is a stealth game and the best of its kind. And it is not a first person shooter. This game you give you hour after hour of enjoyment. It is the most addictive game I have ever played. This game is worth it and should be on your shelf of favorite games.
Very Immersive!

Theif: The Dark Project.
The known; Your a theif and take on many jobs by your employer. Before each level there is a cut seen that sets it up. Simple but nicely done. Being a theif requires many theif-like equipment. Your trusty bow(that zooms in when you hold the string back long enough), Blackjack(knock out club), A variety of speciality arrows, including a rope arrow. etc.
Being a theif you rely on darkness, hence a visiblity gauge. If it is bright then you are in to much light. Theif also has a sound gauge. If your walking to fast or on noisy floors like metal grating, tiles or gravel, the noise will be much greater.
The game runs smoothly and is very immersive thanks to the great sound effects and good graphics for the time. One thing that some reviewers overlook is the stat summary at the end of the level. It is a nice to see your total and level time, loot, killed bodys, knocked out bodys and discoverd bodys(you can pick up the bodys and hide them to reduce suspicion of other guards. This adds to the feeling of not just going level to level and actually working for a goal. A goal which could simply be saving money to buy equipment at the start of the next level.
Levels are layed out nice. With this point, alot of people complain about the zombie levels. Is that because its not realistic? Not a setting that a theif would normally be put into? Or the fact that they scare the ... out of you. I will never forget the first time I played the second level and saw a corpes. I bent down to inspect it. Well what do you know It started getting up and let out a grotesque moan.
The sound makes this game. Without it, the game would be reduced significantly. With that said, use headphones and play it in the dark. Your heart will race and you will jump when guards see you or you come across something you where not perpared for.
Playablity. Play it every once in awhile(like combat flight sim) and it will keep your interest. With the total time stat it will give you an incentive to try to beat your old time.
Bottom Line. 4&1/2 stars for a truly immersive game, even compared to the glamour of the newer games. Get it! It deserves to be in your collection and will not set you back any money.

You are a single thief who was trained to steal. In this game, you will encounter many enemies that will make you sit at the edge of your seat. You will also be able to use many different weapons that will make you enjoy killing. The pictures and animation are clear. So enjoy! ;)

great game because of the different angle you are the bad guy where as in most games you stop the bad guy also extremely challenging you can only use some weapons when the guards are un-aware like the blackjack also you must imply all your stealth plus neat little magic gizmos (mainly weird arrows) used to wipe away incriminating bloodstains all in all a great game
How ambivalent!

Thief: The Dark Project, in my opinion, was pretty tedious compared to the fast-moving sequel. It started out fine, but it got really dull and annoying when I reached the zombie-infested parts of the game which include levels like Down in the Bonehoard and The Haunted Cathedral. I loved it at first, seeing new types of opponent apart from the usual guards, but the fun dies out pretty quickly because of the level structure. This is'll be a complete nuisance if the difficulty's set on Expert. The objectives of levels which have zombies and burricks are pretty demanding and they're all not located in convenient places. It requires a lot of going back and forth, which means that sometimes you face the enemies all over again as it's impossible to kill more than 1 especially since they move around in groups, so a quick glance, dart and hide is done mostly throughout the game.
The other levels are pretty "civilized", which involve reasonable objectives, and most of these are taken place in the City where it's mostly guaranteed you won't see mythical monsters like the zombies and the burricks.
The reason why this game mainly revolves around these monsters is because of the storyline. Garrett, the thief you play, finds himself being involved with dark Pagan rituals, people who worship the forces of nature and live in woods.
The graphics and lighting are amazing, and really set the atmosphere. I recommend this game, but a getting a lot from it is not to be expected.
