This game is a disgrace to StarWars

I am a StarWars fanatic. I love StarWars and I loved this game even if it had been in beta ever since it went online. I had three characters that I put a lot of time and effort in. They were elite. They had the best equipment and were Masters of their professions. And yes, to me they really existed in thier virtual world. All that is gone now. My characters were reduced to nothing, all their professions deleted by SOE, their equipment was rendered useless. It was almost like starting all over again.

I had been with SWG since week 2. I had put up with all the bugs all that time, thinking that things would improve. After all, the developers kept saying that they were "working on it". I posted in the forums offering constructed suggestions, and received "we are working on it". I talked to other players in my Guild and we all said "they are working on it".

Lies. All Lies. What they were "working on" was an entirely NEW game. They wiped out months, years of character development in one release..NGE. They had lied to all of the player base. There were no bug fixes, no improvements, no added content. Instead the reduced the game to this hybird. It's not a FPS, it's not a RPG and it's not StarWars. This 'slap in the face' by SOE and LA hurts. It's hard to finally realize that the company you spend money on month after month, not only doesn't communicate with you but doesn't even care about you. We had no warning that they were changing the game. There was nothing posted in the forums. You simply logged in one day and found yourself back at step 1.

This is not the first time this has happened. The CU was handled the same way and yet we continued to believe "they were working on it".

Please don't even consider this game! In six months, if not sooner, the game will morph into an entirely NEW game again. All the while, they will keep telling you that they are "working on" all the bugs that exist now. Don't be fooled!

The current state of the game? Unplayable. Spawns up to 1700 are all over the place. Lag is unreal. Game control, with the NEW interface, is simply unplayable. The servers are practically empty. Large number of veteran players have left. No one in their right mind would log on to this game. Customer service is a joke!

I have finally heard my last "we are working on it". I cancelled all of my accounts last week.

SWG is simply AWFUL

It was once a fun game. Then they changed it. We can only speculate that they changed it to be more easily played on a console. Sony and LucasArts and anyone else involved in the game's development have been downright fraudulent in their misleading expectations and blatant lies. For instance, when they first introduced jedi, it was explained that it required mastery of 5 professions. Then they changed the rules without letting the community know to where one had to master a much higher number of professions. This was certainly a blatant lie. Another misconception was the Force Ranking System. This was designed to allow jedi to compete among themselves to gain higher rank and abilities. For almost a year they pretended that it was on hold, implying it was in development. Had they been honest from the start, they would have simply said that it would no longer exist. Then the NGE - the latest change in the game (read the other reviews as to why it sucks). It has perverted the very qualities that make a MMORPG successful. I personally wouldn't play it even if it were free and had no subscription fees. There's a very good reason why there are so many 1-star reviews of this game. Look at other successful MMORPGs and notice they don't have such a streak of horrible reviews - it certainly isn't coincidence. Oh and lastly, if you are a die-hard Star Wars/George Lucas fan and if you decide to play this game for any length of time, you will end up hating all things that are Star Wars (not necessarily a bad thing - frees up cash for other interests in life).

Galaxies is dieing, and they are needing last minute money

Like the title states. They have revamped this game from the beginning soo many times that they have finally drove it into the ground. This last change that SWG implimented was the final blow. The fun factor and everything I love about Star Wars is sadly over. I'm not sure why they would "fix" something that wasn't broken, unless to force people to quit for other business ventures. To offer a "starter kit" for new players is a ploy to squeeze every dollar out of the consumer, before the game is axed. SOE should be wearing ski masks. Save yourself some money, and join Dark and Light.

Some Insider Info About SWG and SOE . . . . .

I don't expect you to take my word on this but I will share with you what I was told by a friend of
mine who works for SOE. I can't give you any more detail like his position, department, etc for
fear of him being identified. They apparently are bound by some air-tight non-disclosure
agreements.

Below is what I was told:

Apparently, the NGE has really, REALLY stirred things up in Austin. All sorts of fingers are being
pointed among SOE employee's as nobody wants to take the blame. Right now EVERYONE is trying to
distance themselves from being responsible for making ANY decsions on pushing the NGE live. Every
single employee is avoiding any connection to the NGE like the plague. I was told that the Dev's
expected SOME account cancelations when the NGE went live, but my insider said they were willing to
take those vet losses with the hopes of bringing in new subscribers over the holiday sales season.
Also, the devs were counting on most of the threats by vets to quit to not actually go thru with
cancelling. They have admitted, at least internally, that they number of cancels has FAR FAR FAR
exceeded the number they were willing to take. As a result, there is beginning to be some serious
discussion of a pre-NGE rollback. Several dev's are in serious jeopardy of being fired, and many
many many of the support staff etc are polishing up their resume's because SOE has become the
laughing stock of the online gaming community. No longer is it a badge of pride to work for SOE
according to what I was told. Even my friend says he is no longer proud of working for SOE because
of how they have destroyed their reputation.

Also, after having to report to LA on the NGE results, specifically the account cancels numbers,
some of the big dogs from LA have flown into Austin for some serious intervention. No details on
what that means yet, but it is known that Smedly and the senior crew at SOE have been behind closed
doors for unusually lengthy meetings and have emerged with scowls on their face. The speculation
is that LA is gearing up to crack down big time. (I would love to have been a fly on the wall in
those meetings)

Because of the signifacant loss of subscriptions, customer service has laid off 25% of their
support staff starting the 1st of January with more cuts expected.

All in all, the NGE turned out to rock the player base more deeply than what they expected. Talks
are now underway on cutting the game off sometime in the first quarter of 2006. There is
discussion with an outside company that is interested in purchasing the pre-NGE code with the aim
of running a handful (5 tops) of pre-NGE servers, and maintained with a skeleton support staff.
Right now this is apparently looking to be the most realistic result.

I will post more info as I hear stuff.

Added stuff:

Oh, and my insider said the Devs are being intentionally vague on their forum posting and player
communication because they want to keep as many subscribers as possible right now. A memo was
passed down to ALL Dev's by the SOE execs with a list of topics that are completely not to be
discussed or responded to on the forums. It is generally feared by the SOE team that the more info
the player base has, the more of them will quit the game.

Also, the game WAS in the pre-development phase on porting to consol (xbox, playstation), but that
those cycles have been 100% stalled at the moment because the future of SWG is so uncertain. But I
was told that if any Dev posted or said that consol talks were never taking place it is a lie
because significant discussions had already been underway with the design teams experienced with
porting PC games to consol systems and that the NGE was partly (not entirely) designed to acomplish

Paying to test the game

That's what you'll be doing. In short, this was easily the best, most comprehensive MMO out there. 35 (!!!) professions. What other MMO could match that? Player driven economy. To obtain a Jedi was a badge of distinctions. Now? Nine professions. Jedi is a selectable at the beginning and is now the weakest combat class. The UI is....terrible to be brief. No, I didn't have a Jedi. I see it from the other side. Buy this game or throw 15 dollars out the window and jump after it. It will be less painful.

The problems with this game are numerous, and well documented all over the internet (just do a search on Google). I would suggest anyone to look them up if they are considering buying.

My personal impression of the Starter Kit is as follows:
The starter kit may work well as a stand-alone game. But please keep in mind it is trying to lure you into purchasing a subscription to a multi-player on line game that costs $14.95 a month.

The on line game has been around since 2003, and has been plagued with bugs ever since. At this point, subscriptions are at an all time low, with an estimated 80%+ cancelling, because SOE completely rewrote the game for the second time in 6 months, transforming what was first a very open virtual world first into a WoW clone, and now, most recently, into an inferior First Person Shooter (FPS) type game. Both times the new versions were extremely rushed, without enough testing being done, and more critically, without asking the players if this was what they wanted. The end result is buggy and laggy beyond belief. You basically pay SOE to test their product.

HUGE problems:
- classes cannot be customised. If you pick a class, you will have the exact same abilities as everyone else who picked that class.
- there are no quests (and you need quests to level) between level 30-60. To get quests for 60 and higher, you need to buy additional expansions.
- the quests that ARE there, are linear, repetitive, and often broken (quests givers do not spawn, cannot be found, do not reply).
- there is no guarantee that SOE will not completely change the game AGAIN in 6 months, destroying all your loot, making all your skills useless. They did so two times before.
- the combat system is awkward, very twitch-oriented, jerky, and without any form of target lock

All in all, not worth your money.

Pathetic

Galaxies (gal-ak-seez) adjective, slang
1. Deserving abhorrence or scorn.
2. Very unpleasant; disagreeable.
ex: The taste of vomit is so Galaxies!

Take your money elsewhere! I would not waste time on a free copy!

This game is the worst combination of First Person Shooter and RPG I have ever seen. The controls are clunky and the game play is horribly boring. This game requires a $15 a month fee. For that you will get the beta version of this game, It is incomplete and riddled with bugs. You will play for hours to find out that the quest you should have completed is bugged and lose your rewards as well as your time. SOE also has the worst customer service you can encounter. PLayers bring up the issues and bugs and the company just takes your money and ignores the players. AVOID THIS GAME! Be careful when purchasing an SOE game.

Disappointing and Disgraceful Company Tactics

After playing this game for almost 3 years, the game has finally become an embarasment. This new expansion was suddenly released without any customer feedback resulting in the abolishment of the diverse professions (32 now to a paltry 9). The game has become a poor man's (FPS), well not really poor mans, it still costs $15
a month. For that you get a simplistic graphical interface, a game laden with bugs, and absent customer service. It is sad to see a game changed dramatically and abruptly into a more simplistic and less fun version. With great saddness I can no longer recommend this game and strongly recommend you read the other reviews and even the game forums of all the existing problems. This game is not worth playing in its beta form.

All good things must come to an end...

This used to be a very good game. However, from the start this game was doomed, the developers continued to ignore glitches, flaws and everything that was wrong and instead put out more expansions adding to the imbalance. They a released the jedi system, which was a major problem. A person with too much time on their hands and a fair bit of money could get a jedi which was the equivalent of an invincible button, however I played one, while wicked fun for a while, I found it boring because nothing could be a challenge, eventually sold him on ebay. I played at the begining of beta testing for this game all the way up untill a few weeks after the combat upgrade, then I quit. The combat upgrade radically changed the game pleasing some but disappointing most and causing many to leave, such as myself. The newest upgrade took what little left that was good, the versatility of classes and stomped on it in a vain effort to make it resemble the very popular and successful mmorpg WoW. Last I heard from a friend who is a star wars fanboy the servers have been reduced to scrap, it is very likely that this game will be shut down within a year, perhaps not. It would be nice if this game was just scraped and a new development of it started under people who actually know how to do a good job developing mmos, such as Blizzard and Mythic. Overall what could have been a very good game if it had been given the right attention failed because the development did not listen to their customers and beta testers when we told them to fix the bugs and leave combat alone(for the most part). If you are looking for a good mmo, try World of Warcraft.
