I LOVED this game so much! I love the puzzles and the sounds and the graphics. I read in a magazine about this game, and they only gaveiti a 75% out of 100%! It deserves a better rating than that! I dant think Rand and Robyn Miller went through 4 years of writing and developing this game for 3/4 of the rating it should've gotten. This is one of the most awesome games in the whole world! I never get bored playing this game, cause I love mysteries and I have played Myst about a zillion times. For all of you who have played MYST (and liked it), this is such a wonderful computer game full of cool graphics and sounds. RAISE THE ROOF FOR RIVEN! END
The best game I have ever played

When I played MYST I was thrilled by the graphics and how well the programmers had managed to integrate the puzzels. The fabulous graphics and well made videos from Myst have been taken to the most optimum in RIVEN. I also find that although I have an older Power Mac the videos are astonishingly fast. Another great thing are the islands: their atmospheres, their puzzles, and the way you traverse between them.
My computer wasn't ready for Riven!

I absolutely love the problem-solving involved with both Myst and Riven, but I was disappointed in Riven. Not by the graphics (hardly!) but by all of the upgrading that must be done. My computer must be really outdated because it takes about 5 mintues to transition when the game is in movie mode! Right now I'm pretty much stuck because I have to click on something at a certain moment, but it takes to long! I guess all the upgrading will be good for the computer, but I must admit I liked Myst slightly better. Maybe because it had more of a story. (Maybe it's just because I couldn't even hear what was being said at the beginning of Riven). So, I guess I'll just hope my computer is upgraded before I lose interest already!
Riven is a challenging game

I have played MYST, only to find myself wanting more when I finished the game. Well Riven was my answer. It has kept me busy now for more than 6 months of continuous play. From the intricate graphics to the interesting puzzels it has held my interest. Anyone who has played MYST, and enjoyed it, should definitley give Riven a try. Also you should try reading the three books that are out, written by the creators, Rand and Robyn Miller. They were great.
Don't listen to the people who gave this game 1s and 2s!!

Pay no attention to the people who gave this AWESOME game 1s, 2s, and other low scores! They are complete WACKOES!!! They don't know what the heck they are talking about! Me and my mom played this game and never got sick of it! So to all those who didn't like it... SHUT UP! What's wrong with you people! It was 100 times better than MYST. The puzzles were harder, the game was longer, the sounds were better and more realistic, the graphics were PERFECT! What else is there to say! This is one game that NO... I repeat... NO MYST fan should miss. Again... PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE PEOPLE WHO GAVE THIS GAME LOW BLOWS!! THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT!
'Twas a kick-ass game.

The graphics were cool. I copied one for my Windows background, I hope that's not copyright infringement or anything... Anyway, the graphics were cool. Except for the pitch-black ones, I got lost a few times in the beginning. But when I shut off the lights in the room, as per the instruction book's suggestion, it was fine.
But I have a few complaints. I agree with wanting to be able to go anywhere and not this clumsy point-click-and-you're-there style of movement. But such a notion would make the game too expensive, with all the CD's for each island's nook and cranny.
And aren't your conversations with people a bit one-sided? I'd like an interface like the Journeyman games (a preview for Journeyman 3 is included with Riven), where you choose questions to ask the people you meet.
The last is a bit unfeasible, but I'd like to be able to be evil and betray Atrus. (cackling evilly) I'd like to give Gehn the book to Tay and have him send shock-troops there... become a traitor. I want the freedom to choose, like how I can play as either the Global Defensive Initiative or the Brotherhood of Nod in Command & Conquer. "And so he asked me if I wanted to be evil, and I said yeah, baby, yeah, baby, yeah! Evil's good, baby! 'Cause I'm the Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs at Midnight!" (The Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs at Midnight, on The Tick) I think I've scared you enough.
Don't Let Ghen Have All The Fun...BUY RIVEN!

Myst is the best selling CD-ROM Ever. RIVEN is all you would expect from a sequel. From the start, you are launched into the beautful world of Age Five (a.k.a. Riven). Turn the music up, the lights down...and prepare for immersion.....
My one complant is the hardware needed. I played it on my brand-new PII-333, and even IT seemed stressed out at times. If you have the hardware, though, Riven is a wonderful game.....

Hi there. I'm here just to say that Riven is the best game ever created, ever done in the world. It is simply wonderful. For you all who think that game. You can't just run "Setup.exe" and OK, that's it. You must immerse yourself in the game, in the atmosphere, to play it. If you do that, you will probably reach the end of the game. IMMERSE IN IT!!!

This is defintetely an improvement on the original MYST. However, Riven does have one glitch which stands out. First of all, it is hardware intensive. If you have only 100 Mhz and 16 Megabytes of RAM, you can definetely compare this game to molasses. To rund this game smoothly, you need 200 Mhz and 40 Mega-bytes of RAM at the very least. I tested this game on a 100 Mhz computer running Windows 95 with 24 Megabytes of RAM. The preformance was adaquate, but each different scene took four to thirteen minimum requrements should be 32 Mega-bytes of RAM and a 200 Mhz processor. Wether you're running Riven on a Mac or a PC doesn't make a whole lot of difference.
I saved Catherine! I trapped Gehn! I'm a hero!

I was THERE. I was in Riven. It was much better than any Vacation I've ever been on! (Except L.A.) Riven is the most awesome game I have ever played. The music is the only thing in it that did not do better than Myst. Everything else was , well, uh.....WOWYZOWYKERPLOWY! help me people I'm spazzing out here over this game! I don't want to give any specifics, since it might ruin the game, but here's my best. There's a guy and a lady and the lady is trapped by another guy and you gotta save her. With a lot of other jazz including REbels, ages, etc, etc, etc..... I loved Riven and I need to go back! So while I try to get my copy back from my friend who's borrowing it, you go out and buy it, 'kay?
