I recieved my pre ordered copy of STV Elite force today and I have already played through the game. I will share some of my impressions with you.
The story is fairly entertaining, though the gameplay doesn't let you do anything but exactly what you are supposed to. You cannot just wander around the ship and explore except for a few rooms at a time. The level of detail missing is fairly disappointing.
The enemies nearly always shoot for you, even when there are other crew members in your team.
The enemies are very stupid and easy to kill most of the time.
The maps leave no room for error in navigation. You are directed to the next phase of the map because that is the only way you can go. This gets old after a while.
Some of the exits from the rooms are frustratingly hard to figure out, which is not only boring in my opinion, but also takes away from the enjoyment of the game by drawing out the mission unnecessarily.
The weapons are ok, pretty standard first person shooter fare.
Some of the voices are badly done. Seven of Nine's voice especially. It doesn't even sound like the actor that plays her in the TV show most of the time. I have my doubts she did the voice for the game.
If you have played Soldier of Fortune, also by Activision, this game will not be all that exciting. The characters in the game move exactly like they do in SOF. Dying Borg do that silly spinning fall just like the guys in SOF did. They could have at least done some animation work that was original in this game.
Neelix is way too tall and looks dumb.
The levels and savegames are frustratingly slow to load. A loading image comes up in the lower left hand side of the screen and just doesn't seem to go very fast (I'm running a P3 500 with 128mb of Ram and a 32mb video card in case you wondered).
The scenes in between the gameplay are pretty well done but tend to be drawn out and uninformative at times.
All things considered this is a 'just ok' game. If you have played SOF you will find this fairly similar and not quite as fun probably. If you haven't played SOF then you should, and not this because SOF is more fun. If you are a Trekkie looking for some interaction (though basic and very juvenille) you will find some here and thus probably like this game just from the fantasy aspect. If you just like killing computer conrolled enemies and are looking for a fairly mindless shooting game this is your baby.
Two stars because, like I said, this is Soldier of Fortune in space.

I am exited for this game because it has the Quake III Arena ingine under the hood. Let me remind you the Quake III engine is a work of art. Soo smooth and pretty. The network code isnt like Counter-Strike's but that is because it is a all out fastpaced and graphic filled wonder. OK soo what about that. The game play will be great in this Trek of all Treks. The framrates will be smooth and action will be intense. The sound will emerse you with full sourround sound. It will be interesting seeing how they pull off the enviroments. The Q3A engine hasent been tested like the Unreal engine has for large, expansive areas.
I recamend this because i truly believe any Star Treker with a good system will enjoy playing as a character in their show. =Þ
A great game!

This title is a must-have for Star Trek: Voyager fans. In it, you are a member of the Hazard Team, an elite group of security personnel who have to beam to different emvironments to face sworn enemies. All of the characters utalize a Quake 3 engine to make the game very life-like. All the enemies you face act with almost perfect AI, therefore making them challenging foes and not just targets in a shooting gallery. You have very specific mission objective that require you to think about what you are doing. This is a must have for any Star Trek fan.
Very exciting

I really like this game a lot. Although I haven't noticed very many jerks. Its slow at times, but it really lags after the level first loads. After that though, I havent seen many jerks at all and I have a P3 450. One thing that I don't like is that it takes FOREVER to load a level, and there's no progress bar, and the levels are short, so you have to load levels a lot. Another thing is that the AI is really bad. They don't even see you, so once there was something behind me, and my buddies didn't se me and they KILLED ME! Grr. It is nice to have the extra firepower, though. One more thing, It's way to easy.
Now, to the good stuff.
It has a very good plot. I also like how if you make one mistake, it changes the course of the whole game. The model re-makes are pretty good. However they made a Major goof in sickbay. The console is WAY out of place. But other then that the game is really good. Also, the multiplayer is really good. they did a great job thinking of power-ups. Including jet-packs.
I highly recommend you get this game. But be careful, it's addicting.
Great game--and I'm not even that into the SHOW.

I downloaded the demo of this, tried it, thought, -eh- and went my merry way. However, a couple of months later a coworker came in raving to me about it, so I said OK, OK, I'll try it.
Good decision. For ... you just can't beat this. I've seen a good deal of Trek in my time and I'm enough of a fan to see the latest movie in the theater, but I have spent less time actually watching Voyager than I have playing this game.
I've got the following praise for this game: This is better than the few episodes of the show that I've actually seen. This game, while not consistently as good as, does have moments where it is at the level of Half-Life and Jedi Knight in terms of being a stellar example of just what a first-person shooter can be. If only more FPS's had this level of voice acting, AI, story depth, and animation, we'd all be happier gamers, even if we're not Trekkies. There's some great moments of atmosphere here along with some really choice rounds of top-quality blasting to be had, and isn't that what it's all about? Somebody obviously understood this and the game seems to have a great balance between assets and problems-- you're usually not so flush with firepower that you can lay waste to the landscape at will, nor are you so dry that you're constantly hurting for health or ..., and the enemies coming at you are proportional.
Furthermore, and here's where you'll really hate me, I think this game is the game that Quake 3 should have been at a minimum. I mean, you've got an actual honest-to-God single player game here that's actually good. Plus you've got all the multiplay or single vs. bots action that Q3 had, and more besides--more game types, and weapons with two fire modes. Clearly these guys took a look at Unreal Tournament and said guess what: we need to incorporate some of these features. Obviously if you're such a fraghead that this is what you play games for, you wouldn't buy this instead of Q3, but the point being that Q3 would have been a much better game if they'd gone the route that this game has.
No doubt, this game LOOKS better than Q3 does. The artwork and level design are top-notch. This is what 32-bit color was born to do, rather than just depict tones of grey, orange, and brown. The weapons fire and hit effects, along with the sounds, are excellent. You can't help but giggle when you unload your 'personal photon torpedo launcher' and it fires a torpedo that looks and sounds exactly like the ones you see on TV and the movies, and this goes for all the weapons in your arsenal.
What's not to like? Well, it's short. You can probably nail the game from beginning to end in less than 7 hours, but it's a testament to how good it is that you wish it was longer, in some senses. I still don't feel like I was cheaped out of my ... by any means.
As noted by other reviewers, the weapons are weak in how they're balanced(not in how they look or sound, which is stunning), with what actual results they have. There are only two types of ... in the single-player game, and there seems to be a direct relationship between ... used and damage done. Only the Borg require a special ...to deal with, so if any other enemy is coming at you, you could choose and use just about any ... to blast him--it doesn't matter if those 50 rounds come out of your phaser rifle or out of your torpedo launcher, you just have to spend those 50 somehow, and he goes down. You could conceivably get through all of the non-Borg areas of the game, about 80% of it, by using only your first two weapons. It would have been more fun to have enemies that were more or less resistant to certain weapons--so that you had to choose the right tool for the job, making the game a bit more sophisticated. As it is now, basically any tool will do.
Nonetheless, a solid effort and worth the ... whether you're a Trekkie or not. If you're starving for good FPS action, this will definitely tide you over until the next real piece of gaming genius comes along, whenever that may be. The expansion pack, due in early May, I'll be buying on the day it comes out.

The graphics are immence, the best I've ever seen, the levels look amazingly real and the explosions and weapons fire is first rate. The ambiant sound is very realistic to and the voice acting is great (Sevens voice is'nt Jeri Ryans but you can get A patch). The game is as close as you will ever come to being on Voyager, its not like most games where the missions come one after the other you actualy get to walk around Voyager and talk to people. The guns are great each one hase two firing modes so attacks are never boring and some of them are actualy on star trek. The gameplay is great to, very high quality the controls are very easy to use you can even use the mouse for exact targeting. You can't order around your teamates but they take queues from your actions. The multiplayer part of the game is very good to, tons of maps to play in and three game modes (free-for-all, team play, and capture the flag). This is one of the best games I have ever played and for sure the best first-person-shooter, I highly recomend it.
One of the better FPS games out there

I was really impressed with Voyager Elite Force. Excellent graphics really make you feel like you're on board Voyager. Great interaction with the rest of the characters, very detailed alien ships and cool weapons. Only minor cons I found were the various swicthes and items you interact with wouldn't always respond right away and the appearance of enemies that would attack you got to be a bit predictable. However, it has great multi-player options, with different types of games (DM, CTF) and lots of additional maps are available. I highly recommend Voyager Elite Force!
really great game.

What a game. it was so fun to play. the controls are easy and game has alot of things to interact with. It raley crashes or does things like that. the graphics are really good. the ship is really fun to run around on and to explore. the weapons are pretty good but could be better. with the new expantion pack will make it even better. If it came with a level editer it would be the perfect star trek game. if you like action, star trek, or good games get this one. you will love it.
Fun!

Once upon a time, there was a nice ship full of nice people who were trying to get a friend of theirs back from the bad guys.
Actually, scrap that explanation. In the twenty-fourth century, the world is at peace with itself. However, there are other races, factions, planets, etc. that it is not very friendly with. One such group is the Maquis. One ship, the USS Voyager (although everybody just calls it Voyager), was on a mission to retrieve a Federation (Earth and many other worlds) spy from a Maquis ship. However, Voyager and the Maquis were flung into the Delta Quadrant (just think of it as a place FAR FAR away) by the Caretaker (or as the Doctor calls him, the Banjo Man). With no choice but to plot a course for home, the crews united and started the long journey.
This is the world of "Star Trek: Voyager", now nearing its finale (two days from now at the time of this writing). They're not home yet, so they've got hardships galore. On one occasion, they were transported to an isolated region of space and trapped there by the Forge, a sort of malevolent space station. This is the world of ELITE FORCE.
ELITE FORCE is a good game. It's one of those rare games that defies the "Star Trek curse" and turns out to be a quality gaming experience. It has a solid plot and solid action. From the moment you start the game onboard the Borg cube to the frantic battle with the insect-like end-boss, you are delivered non-stop action.
The QUAKE III engine is used to great effect in this game; the graphics are very good and the enemy AI is actually smart, believe it or not. I've heard that Half-Life had similar AI; the humans were very brainy, and the aliens packed stronger punches but were not as smart. It's like that with ELITE FORCE. From what I've heard, the AI isn't as good as that of Half-Life, but it does well just the same. The humanoid "Scavengers", a motley band of races who have banded together to survive life in the Forge, use the terrain to their advantage. They duck behind crates, around corners, and react when they sense something is amiss. On the other hand, the aliens (mostly big bugs and bats and stuff) prefer to tough it out up close. The Reavers, the ultimate enemies, use their abilities - they jump over long crevaces, shoot plasma (or something) from distances, and attack in groups (expect that from all the enemies).
The storyline twists and evolves in the manner of a movie, but it is a movie that you can control. There are several scripted events that you can interact in. For example, there is a time when Borg attack and steal your team leader. The Borg attack occurs in a cut-scene, but the result of their attack can be dictated when you beam over there to put the hurt in them. You can chose to save your team leader or proceed and leave him to be assimilated. The result when you accomplish the former is extremely gratifying. However, if you fail to accomplish the task of saving him or simply chose not to, your team mate's cry of "It's too late!" will haunt you.
ELITE FORCE is a solid game, for which I have very minor complaints. I occasionally experienced a few lockups and crashes, but strangely enough, they did not occur when I replayed it. However, depite these minor flaws, ELITE FORCE is a game which you should definitely own.
