Welcome to Liberty City, modelled on New York and set in the 90's. The first instalment of Rockstars new 3D GTA's shows and some what laughs at the fact New york is run by gangstars.
You are a small time crook working your way up to the big time and dealing with the mafia, the yardies, the triads, yakuza the columbians and much, much more. You've been betrayed and getting your own back on the city. You start in Portland but move west through the other two. You meet the shady characters, bent crooks and proper figure heads on your way to the top. You don't need to be a huge fan or have to be into crime games to adore this one. I feel this is the best game ever, perhaps falling to the new 'GTA Vice City' but this is a real classic and certainly not one to be missed.
nice levels, nice jokes, fair gameplay

The level design is excellent, and there's a lot of humor in things like the soundtrack for the radio stations you can listen to while you're driving. Occasionally the gameplay becomes very engaging and exciting. If it were just that, this game would get 5 out of 5.
But there are two big problems with this game. The first is that, like so many recent games, they've made game saves very limited. (They can only happen between missions, and at certain locations.) Travelling to/from the save point becomes tedious.
The second problem is that the information needed to complete a mission is given very sparingly; all you get is a few only moderately helpful blips on a "radar" screen, cut scenes which can be narratively interesting but don't really tell you anything useful, and terse, often misleading pop-up messages (which often you don't have time to read anyway since you're driving like crazy). The end result is that you have to play some missions three or four times over (at least) just to find what you have to do to complete a mission. In between these mission attempts, you end up spending a lot of time running between points you've run through a hundred times before, just to set things up or re-trigger the mission. It gets EXTREMELY tedious. So although the gameplay is excellent in parts, on the average it's just fair.
I found that the most fun missions were the "non-official" (so to speak) ones that don't advance the story. These include taxi missions, ambulance missions, and police missions, all of which involve driving to race the clock. But these missions, and the taxi missions in particular, avoid many of the annoying quirks of the official missions, and become a more enjoyable way to play.
A lot has been made about the amorality of the game. It's true; the premise and activity in the game is ammoral. But so what.
At this point the price on this game has come down to the point that it's well worth the money.

My advice:
Don't even think of buying this game unless you have at least 256MB SDRAM RAM (which is less than 33 dollars), 900MHZ computer (less than 57 dollars if it is AMD), a 60 dollar or more Videocard, a good sound card (Sound Blaster Live X Gamer or better). With these specs the game should run well. Anyway if you don't have the specs I posted, than update your PC. If GTA 3 is running great on your PC I recommend that you don't download any drivers for your videocard even if they are official drivers because some drivers mess up the frames per second and you'll be forced to format your PC. But if you are having problems with the frames per second, maybe you should download a driver for your Videocard.
If you are having problems with GTA 3 on your PC e-mail Rockstar or go to these sites. [X] or [X]
The PS2 and PC comparison:
This game is better on the PC than it was on the Playstation 2. The reason this game is better on the PC than PS2 is because the PC version has better graphics, better draw distance, you can add MP3s, smoother frames per second, you can edit the game with GTA 3 mods, and you can aim with the mouse. On the PS2 version you had to press a button to aim at people and the gamers who played the PS2 version saw this as a major problem. If you don't like aiming with the mouse than you can use the old aiming system.
The Review:
In GTA 3 you have freedom. You can pick up woman, you can run over pedestrians, you can beat people and take their money, you can steal cars, you can go on cop missions, Taxi missions, Fire Fighter missions, ambulance missions, you can fly a plane, you can drive a boat, you can get the cops after you, you can get your money back by beating up hookers, you can shoot at anybody, you can get the military after you and the FBI, you can do almost anything in GTA 3. This game is really fun! If you are a driving fan, a action fan or a shooting fan this game is for you!

This game is an amazing game.
Please be aware you must have a premium video card.
My system is a Dell Pentium III (one Gigabyte)512megs of rdram
I was using a nvidia geforce 3, but I was disappointed with
the performance. I recently bought a ATI 9700 Pro ( I don't have the words that describes how incredible this card is.)
I now love playing this game.
The most important thing in this game and all new games is a Premium video card.

There are RPG's, action , adventure, and other games. GTA 3 is in a class of its own. The graphics may not be up to date with other games but the gameplay is amazing. However, the ending is decent not great. But then again there are so many missions for hours of fun.

Grand Theft Auto 3 is one of the best and far most fast-action packed game around. Featuring many different styles of action, shoot-outs,drivebys,hand-to-hand,and many more. Grand Theft Auto 3 gives you the role of a bank-robbin-jail-escapin-parolle dude that has one mission to get jobs from the mafia and kill anyone in his way. Some cons are the fact that it takes forever to get the next damn area, and that the mission are sometimes to long, or too hard. Another thing is the mature level in it, you could go on a dark alley way, pick up a hooker and go under a tree in the car and go BLING BLING! Which is bad for the unmature side that plays this game. Other than that, the game offers a great and fun 3D environment for which to drive or do what you want, and cool feature - steal any car you want - kill who you want! I'd have to say that this is one game that no one will forget!
Great Game made better on the PC even w/o the Multiplayer

I bought this game the other day and its Great. One of the most freeform games ever. Ive played the PS2 and PC and the PC is better. Shooting is alot easier with a keyboard and mouse then a gamepad. The graphics are much better on a monitor then a TV sereen. The game works pretty well on a PIII 733, 256k Ram, Gforce2 GTS 32mb. The only bad thing about this game it game run alittle slow at times but its still worth the money.

I was very skeptical about GTA going 3d. I was unable to accept that the original GTA's were outdated. Well, I talked a lot of s--- about 3d GTA, but I went out and bought a copy of GTA3 for the pc. Another thing that dissapointed me was the cut off of the xbox release. Even when you get bored, you can just load up your game, put in a few codes (health, armor, wanted level, GUNS!!!) and start shooting. It's that simple to be amused. As I said, I ate my foot, got me a copy, and sat down for at least 3.5 hrs. straight. GTA3 is hard to put down. Not into the whole 3d thing, go and get a copy of GTA 1,2,London 1969, because these games will never go out of style.
Good Buy!

I have this game on ps2 and it is one of the most addicting things ive ever played. Even if you beat the game or stuck on a mission you could still just run around shoot people, find hidden packeges or do rampages. This game will have you glued to you monitoir all day. and despit the graphics and on some systems technicail dificulties this game makes up for that in gameplay. WEather you like shooter games or driving games it ill keep you busy all day. i got the game the week it came out and i never stopped playing it
This Game is AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This Game is awsome. If you dont have this game I seriously recomend buying it. I must say that the game's graphics are terrific, a huge improvement from GTA1 and GTA2. It's worth playing the game on the keyboard, even though I bought a computer controller. Well happy killing....
