I had a lot of fun with this game. It can be quite challenging to a beginner, but once you've mastered the technique it gets quite boring; however, you'll easily spend several hundred hours tinkering with this one. There are plenty of mods available online, for better or worse, so that extends the replayability a touch. Overall, one of the greatest games you'll find of this genre.

SORRY....... Sim City 2000 is more user/player friendly. Graphics
are good to ok. SIMCITY 4k Deluxe blows away SC3K. To be honest....
I STILL PLAY SIM CITY 2K BECAUSE IT'S PLAYER FRIENDLY.

Well-balanced, works on a modest computer

This is a good, well-balanced game. Start building your city little by little. Build a power plant, small-density residential, commercial and industrial zone, water pipes, that's it. Use the cheapest streets. Every other square in a residential and commercial are should have a bus stop. Of course, bus stops cost money, but it will save you from traffic congestions, and you won't need to invest in expensive roads and motorways. Click on the bus stops and watch the number of passengers, if it's low, demolish it.

Watch your cash flow and the other maps gradually. As soon as you have small but solid cash flow, expand your city gradually. Only add money-eating facilities like fire station, police, education and health care when there is absolute need in it. Expand extensively: cover large areas with low-quality low-density zones.

When you have enough money, move to high-tech industry which have no pollution. To do that, you need highly-educated workforce. Build schools, colleges, museums, and libraries. But watch carefully the number of attendees: only build a schools when the old are overwhelmed. So with health care.

Sooner or later you will be offered federal objects like a mega-market, military base or waste disposal. Accept them all, it will bring you mega-cash-flow that will allow you to significantly improve your city facilities.

Also don't forget to make money by selling power to the neighbors: make connections to them with roads and power lines.

This game is very well-balanced, unlike SimCity 4 Rush Hour. I highly recommend SimCity 3000, be it Unlimited or other edition.

My Bank Account Is NOT Unlimited.

Obviously SimCity 3000 is a superb game. Nothing really comes close to it (except SimCity 4, which beats it). The original SimCity 3000 is good enough to stand on its own.

SimCity 3000 Unlimited doesn't really offer features that attract most gamers, however. While the "unlimited" aspect of creating your own scenarios seems nice, don't think that you can just run the application and simply make a scenario. You gotta read the instruction manual for sure! (All of it.)

Sure, more disasters can be nice, but I am the kind of player who turns them off. That is, I like to actually build cities, not tear them down. If I am unsatisfied, I delete them and start over. But hey, if you like disasters, you got four (4) more with the Unlimited version.

Also, don't think the gameplay is changing one bit - it isn't. But if you think that new Asian and European artwork is cool enough to justify a "brand new" game separate from the original, well, you will need more money, my friend. I personally do not see a justification for adding some content and adding the word "Unlimited" to the title, then selling it for top dollar. This might have been the rare time where I would actually approve of an expension pack version. (Though I would have passed on it with today's knowledge.)

And if you were expecting new buildings, you get one: it's a Halloween haunted house. Tell me, where are you going to put that monstrosity? It looks more like an under-developed zone in your city, and the sound effects are worthless for city-building purposes.

To conclude, I recommend that you do not purchase SimCity 3000 Unlimited if you already own the original SimCity 3000. Since money in your pocket is limited, stick with the original classic - a title worth every penny. If you don't own the original, however, the Unlimited version is a fine substitution.

great for everyone who likes it

I like just about everything about this game. It also has cheat codes without needing a device (computer duh). The only thing I find hard is it's hard to get over a million people, but is possible unlike earlier SimCity games. Comes with 5 great backgrounds and options on flora. It also has cool scenerios, plus you can design them too. You also get to create your own buildings in case you want to replace the ones created (although they're beautiful). Always something to do in SimCity.

COOL GAME!

Not As Good as the Previous One

This version of the game is not as fun as the previous Sim City was. The only disasters in this one include, plague of locusts, tornado, space junk, UFO, toxic cloud, earthquake, whirlpool, and fire. You can't even recreate the 1938 New England hurricane in Providence, Rhode Island, on this one (I tried to). Either stick with the previous one, or get the latest version.

works on XP

Guys, I have XP and the game runs - it can't be just a coincidence. I know it sounds bad, but it really is somthing with one's machine or the way it is installed.

I just reinstalled the game after some break from it - and I noticed one thing: when the game is 'almost' installed, it opens a program group with an icon - if you close the installation program now it may not run. When the installation stops (but is not completed yet) and you see that program group open, just minimize it, and make sure you click on the installation confirmation msg. Unless you do that, the SIM CITY button will not apear and you will not be able to run it.

I did it on XP, so it must be doable. I may not be right about each and every case of problems on XP, but it is definetely possible to install and play.

Cheers and happy 'installing' :)
