SimCity is one of the longest running and most successful series in computer gaming history, and this addition to the series is just that. Additions of 2 new building sets, new music tracks, more landmarks, gifts and events and new terrains are all great, and much needed, additions to the series.
This in mind, realize that the game in itself is not much more than a SimCity 3000 v2.0. You still use the ever omnipresent isometric graphics, the raw engine remains the same and at $40.00 is enough to set you back a bit.
Hardcore fans of the series will appreciate these new additions, casual players and people new to the series would be well off getting the original SimCity 3000 instead.
All SimCitys are sweet.

I've played Sim City 3000 Unlimited for a long time now, and I must say I'm very pleased with this city desiging simulation.
The various scenarios ranging from fairly easy (try the one for the party in Frankfurt, Germany) to insanely difficult (try the one where the entire city is inside a volcano!) gives this title a luster that the former editions lacked. The Ultimate Edition includes all of the parts of Sim City 3000 and the various Maxis downloads, including the formerly only available by download Building Designer.
The interface is fairly easy, and even children will like bulding thier own city - and may learn a little about city planning in the bargain. Remember, don't put your landfill next to a residential district!
The Building Designer is one of my favorite features - you can, if you have a hand at drawing, design your own buildings and put them in the city. I like this feature - and so do lots of Sim City fans who have posted their ideas on the net.
But I thought this edition would be the last until Sim City 4 - and I was wrong. An even =more= complete version (if that's possible) exists - called Sim City 3000 UK Edition. There's almost no difference between the American edition and the UK editon - except for a whole fourth type of buildings (European - who would have thought :-) being included with the set. You may have to look a little bit for the UK Edition if you want one - keep trying!
GREAT GAME W/ ONE COMPLAINT!

Ok, so you, like every other person in the world, have played one of the earlier Sim games, and now you are wondering if you should shell out the cash for this one. Well, here's some info.
On the plus side, the graphics are great. Zoomability from far far overhead (aircraft height) all the way to where you can see individual cars. Different kinds of vehicles (police cars or fire trucks during an emergency, different kinds of airplanes), multitudes of different buildings, lots of nice little graphical things on the buildings all add to the experience. Ability to make streets that run on the diagnals, not just NSEW, is very very nice.
The music is every bit as catchy as always.
On the down side: There are only a couple disasters. No monsters. You'll get really tired of seeing the same fire, tornado, earthquake, UFO, whirlpool disasters. Majorly boring in that respect.
Very liniar. Play twice on a similar map, the game will feel pretty much exactly the same.
Too hard, for a lot of people. Too boring to learn, for some.
Despite the many many buildings that _can_ show up, you will very very often wind up with tons of identical buildings. Wheee, talk about boring.
And it gets slow if your computer isn't a monster. I have a decent system, and I can see the lag. Who wants to turn off the music, or turn down the graphics, though? Without those, the game would suck.
If you loved the earlier ones, and you have a powerful system, and are really into obsessive nit-picking detail, buy this. If you aren't one of those people, maybe you should buy someones used copy.
Personally, I play it sometimes, but it could have been better.

I have to say that SimCity3000 Unlimited is a true work of art. I went to buy this game and it's expensive but it's worth every penny. As soon as I got home I tore open the box and launched it in my brand new Pentium 4 Processor with cable modem. I was amazed at the graphics used in this game as soon as I saw the cutscene, but even more amazed when I saw the graphics while playing the game. You start out with nothing and must build an entire empire full with power, water, transportation, tourist attractions, and much more. This game is very fun once you build a small town and continue to make it into a huge city. I never built a big city because I couldn't figure out how to set the taxes right, I thought that was the most challenging part of the game. My land values were very high and I still got a little under the city budget. Anyway, SimCity3000 Unlimited leaves it's previous ancestors in dust because of it's strong graphical engine, hidden suprises, building architect tool where you can create your own buildings from scratch, internet option to share your creations with other mayors, and most important of all, the extordinary gameplay! So why did I give this four stars? Because it's slow once you get into a huge city. It took me about two minutes to move just one stroke of a key to view the city. Even on cable it runs slow. Well, I got the hang of the speed but after a while this game gets kind of boring, so I uninstalled it and sold it for the same price I bought it for, but I must say! If you love the previous Sim games more than I do then I say buy this because if you don't then you'll regret it!

How appropriate that this would be my very first game-review on here. I have had SimCity 3000 Unlimited since the third week it was out, and while I go thru my periods of playing/not playing it, I still have all of my cities saved and when I'm in the mood for playing a game that allows me to use my creative abilities, no other game will do (even THE SIMS, which I also have).
I love the fact that there are now over 100 landmark buildings from which to choose, and that you can go to the SimCity Exchange (...)and download new landmark buildings, as well as new regular buildings, new terrains, and practically anything else your heart desires. SimCity 3000 Unlimited is so adaptable that it never ceases to be new and interesting. It is still such an addictive game that when I do play it, it's usually for 3 or 4 hours on end.
The only thing that SimCity 2000 had that this doesn't is the option of installing hydroelectric dams for energy. I don't know why they took that option out of this game. Otherwise, this game is a vast improvement, with 3 different types of architectural styles (Asian, European, and North American) from which to choose, as well as the terrains: Desert, Grassland, Arctic, and several others. The possible combinations are practically limitless.
As I said before, when I'm in the mood for this type of game, nothing else will do. SimCity 3000 Unlimited rocks!!!

This game was well made altogether. You can have a TON of different buildings and landmarks like the World Trade Centers or even the Alctraz complex. The game is easy to learn and if you need help they give you a huge booklet. Sim City will provide you with HOURS of fun and entermaint. this game is a MUST BUY.

This is a great game. It is well supported on the web site with tips, but just exploring gets you into it. It kept me and the whole family involved for over 6 months. I highly recommend this game to anyone interested in running a city. It's a great deal of fun and teaches valuable lessons in city management. (I'd give it 6 stars if that were possible)
My Bank Account Is NOT Unlimited.

Obviously SimCity 3000 is a superb game. Nothing really comes close to it (except SimCity 4, which beats it). The original SimCity 3000 is good enough to stand on its own.
SimCity 3000 Unlimited doesn't really offer features that attract most gamers, however. While the "unlimited" aspect of creating your own scenarios seems nice, don't think that you can just run the application and simply make a scenario. You gotta read the instruction manual for sure! (All of it.)
Sure, more disasters can be nice, but I am the kind of player who turns them off. That is, I like to actually build cities, not tear them down. If I am unsatisfied, I delete them and start over. But hey, if you like disasters, you got four (4) more with the Unlimited version.
Also, don't think the gameplay is changing one bit - it isn't. But if you think that new Asian and European artwork is cool enough to justify a "brand new" game separate from the original, well, you will need more money, my friend. I personally do not see a justification for adding some content and adding the word "Unlimited" to the title, then selling it for top dollar. This might have been the rare time where I would actually approve of an expension pack version. (Though I would have passed on it with today's knowledge.)
And if you were expecting new buildings, you get one: it's a Halloween haunted house. Tell me, where are you going to put that monstrosity? It looks more like an under-developed zone in your city, and the sound effects are worthless for city-building purposes.
To conclude, I recommend that you do not purchase SimCity 3000 Unlimited if you already own the original SimCity 3000. Since money in your pocket is limited, stick with the original classic - a title worth every penny. If you don't own the original, however, the Unlimited version is a fine substitution.
