Just because this game is low in price does not mean it skimps in quality. The game engine is new and one of the best I have ever seen. The graphics are outstanding and the maps are large and set in a combintion of outdoor and indoor enviroments. Multiplayer could use a little spit and polish, but I think that can be fixed easily with a patch. I am using a Voodoo5500 Agp/Athlon 850/256megs ram and the framerates and stability of the game are one of the best I have ever played. The best way to describe the type of game is throw a little Unreal,Half-Life,Duke-Nukem, and Doom in a pot and you get S.S.The only complaint is the sound settings keep reverting to the default instead of being saved when I change them. I have to reset it every time I start the game. Very minor problem and probably fixable with a little tinkering. Buy this game now! FPS fans will not regret it.

I've read magazine reviews of this game. Most critics tend to require cerebral stimulation. Can't a game just be a game sometimes? Does a game always have to be a journey into your soul?
This game is great fun. Shut off your brain and rely on your reflexes. Pump up the graphics settings and turn on the 3d sound. This game, a classic FIRST-PERSON SHOOTER, will allow you to go ... on skeletons, headless kamikazes, giant beasts(and I mean giant...unbelievable scaling) and rocket launching mechs. Don't worry, they arm you well. You can use a rocket launcher, Gatling, Auto-Shotty, Tommy Gun, and my favorite...A Canon. Yes, you run holding a cannon and launch cannon balls.
Additional note, me and 3 buddies connected via my cable modem connections. I hosted a cooperative game. Set the difficulty setting to SERIOUS and tackled this incredibly difficult game together. With the use of a communication software, we were laughing it up and talking ... while working our way through the entire game. Later, I finished this game by myself with the difficulty set to NORMAL and had almost as much fun.
Not too many better ways to spend... bucks. GO BUY THIS ARCADE-STYLE shooter.

If you're a fan of shooters, and you don't already have this game, you need to pick it up. It's just too good a bargain to pass up.
Although Serious Sam doesn't really add anything to the genre, it puts all of the strongest elements of the genre together in a very tight and fast moving package. The action is intense. There are many times in the game when you're faced with wave after wave of various enemies. The few "slow" periods in the game are punctuated by surprise attacks, some of which literally made me jump. The game also offers an interesting variety of weapons, all of which are useful, even at later stages in the game, due to the fact that some weapons are more effective against certain monsters than others.
Some of the game's other strengths include impressive visuals (the Egyptian setting is a nice change, and some of the structures are stunning), a healthy sense of humor, and good level design.
There are a few negative aspects to the game. The whole concept is fairly unoriginal (typical plot, Sam strongly resembles Duke Nukem, etc.), and eventually, you'll probably groan at the sight of yet another empty courtyard which you know will momentarily fill with yet another unending wave of monsters. These factors would normally be enough for me to deduct a point, but the low price offsets that.
If you like shooters, you'll definitely like Serious Sam.
Great,cheap fun!

This game represents the best in computer games:Packed with humor, action, gorgeous graphics, and CHEAP!! I refuse to pay [lots of money] for a video game anymore, when this company has managed to put out TWO terrific games for [a lot less]. And the replay is great, as well, because you can go back and find all of the "secrets" you missed the first time around. And there are four levels of play, geared to the ability of beginners, and up to seasoned shoot 'em up veterans.
I can't wait for the next game by this most excellent company.
Serious fun!

I found Serious Sam on the bargain rack at a well-known electronics score for significantly less than retail. As I was on my way to a LAN party, I figured it would be a great game for the downtimes when people weren't all playing the same thing.
I was right. Serious is a First Person Shooter (FPS) cast in the Doom mold. You're a super-warrior sent back in time to eradicate the forces of evil, blah blah blah... the plot is utterly unimportant. This game's major strengths are it's sense of humor and it's sheer silly level of monster-killing action. I play on the "normal" setting, and I feel like I get a workout as I try to kill dozens of monsters at a time. The game constantly bombards you with a flow of well-designed enemies, and your weapons (which seem ridiculously overpowered when you first pick them up) are barely enough to keep you alive from one courtyard to the next.
Serious Sam has seriously large outdoor environments. There's a lot of distance running in the game which, while sometimes tedious, serves to impart a sense of realism. The monsters and environments are all mostly brightly colored, providing a change from some newer games' tendencies to paint in shades of gray.
This game is a run-and-gun shooter with almost no brain, and it's fun that way. You kill the monsters, move on to the next environment, and kill a ton more monsters (don't forget that quicksave key!). Sam has some great one-liner comments (in the tradition of Duke Nukem 3D) that add laugh-out-loud moments every now and again.
This game doesn't try to do too much, and knows exactly what it is and what to stick to. It's not a genre-redefining piece like "Half-Life" or a technical masterpiece like "Max Payne", but it's great fun, and if you liked Doom or Doom2 at all, you owe it to yourself to play Serious Sam.
One heck of a blast...

Serious Sam, the only man who can save the Earth, makes his first appearance. Serious Sam is a nice change from all the flashy difficult shooters, because there is very little puzzle work involved. Simply pick up your guns and start shooting anything that moves. It's quite simply a new-born DOOM.
Some of the remarks Sam makes are very funny and the enemies come in all different sizes, from small zombies to giant insects!
However, sometimes the game gets difficult and it has you tearing your hear out. So many enemies coming at you and no cover at all means you have to be quick on your toes and quick on the trigger. Plus it gets repetitive as well. Simply going in, killing everything and going out gets boring after a while.
Plus, the enemies all have the same attacks. And they just run blindly at you with no regard for anything else... which doesn't make a challenge.
However, if you can turn a blind eye to these flaws then Serious Sam is a classic shooting game which has everything a trigger happy guy would like.
GOOD BITS
Fast action
Lots of bad guys
Lots of guns
Plenty of funny bits
A nice change
BAD BITS
Repetitive
Sometimes difficult
Poor A.I
The Verdict: 4 out of 5
ALTERNITIVE'S: If you like this then try Duke Nukem.
Enjoy
C'Mon, it's 19 bucks.

You've read the other reviews, I imagine. But one thing they may not mentioned is this -
1) it's 19 bucks!!!
2) It has one of the most enjoyable multiplayer elements of any game around. Basically, a co-op multiplayer mode that allows you to go through the entire game with 8 other people. This is a real blast, I tell you. If you have a decent internet connection (read - cable or DSL), couple of friends, and the yearning to be up ALL NIGHT, this is the game for you.
Good game for 49.99 Great Game for 19.99

This would have been a good game for 49.99, but since the list price is 19.99, then this is a must have for anyone that remotely likes FPS. And if you liked Doom, then you will absolutely love this game.
Just make sure you have a decent computer P3 500 with a good video card (Voodoo 3 or higher) and you'll be all set.
This game would have gotten 5 stars easily, but the multiplayer kinda sucks. I mean the multiplayer aspect is fun, but the network codes really sucks. I get kinda laggy on my cable modem and could barely even play it on my girlfriends 56.6 modem.
But don't let the lackluster multiplayer stop you, for 20 bucks, you'll have a blast in single player mode, and if your feeling alittle adventurous, then you can build your own levels with the included software.
FUN-While it last

Serious Sam is a great game untill it's over in about 3 hours. Technically the single player take's about a day, but the fun, for me stops after about 3 hours because the game just become's boring and repitious. So if you are looking for a great shooter with DEPTH than this is not the one for you.
The best bargain game money can buy.

After playing this, all I have to say is WOW! Take everything good that was in Doom, add a little Duke Nukem 3D, and then you've got Serious Sam. This is by far the best FPS Action game I've played in about five years. Truely awsome. The game runs excellent as well. At times, over 100 enemies (all rendered in 3D) will be on the screen at once, charging after you, and the game wouldn't even think of slowing down for a second (on an AMD 1.1GHz Thunderbird w/GeForce2 card). I cranked the detail settings to the highest and ran the game in 1024x768x16 resolution and it was GREAT! If you liked Doom and/or Duke Nukem 3D, then this game is for you. It's no Half Life when it comes to story, but when it comes to mindless and extremely fun shooting, it's simply the best game out there.
