Unforgetable experience!

Serious Sam is a truly exceptional game. It has jaw dropping graphics and provides player with unlimited amounts of action. This game is built with Croteam's new graphics engine and it it looks unbelievable! Never before have I seen a game where such large beautifully textured spaces were used. Not only the levels are gigantic, the graphics run fast too. Incredible. Croteam did a wonderful job. The skies and the lense flares from the sun deserve A+ all by themselves. Curved surfaces, mirrors... I have no words! The gameplay and monsters are something unique too! Headless screaming kamikaze, headless gunners, and the hooved nightmare horses and bulls scared... me. You always have to face many enemies at once. I mean MANY!!! At one level I was faced with more than FIFTY skeletal horses AT ONCE (LITERALLY!!!!) it was scary. Weapons are cool too, though simple, they are done very well, especially the cannon. This game is not a sneaker or puzzle solver. It is just raw action, more action than in doom or any game. Shoot---reload--shoot---reload----rest----get more ammo---shoot....... Music........WOW, Serious Sam has very good music. Ethnic Egyptian beat with a tinge of rock, pop, and techno blend very well with the surroundings. Buy this game. You won't be sorry. Just the graphics and music are worth buying. And you're given an unlimited model and level editors with which you can create your own models and levels. Those Croatian geniuses sure did a good job on Serious Sam!

In Spirit of DukeNukem & Doom, an Old School Shoot Em Up

Serious Sam is a game that makes you remember the first days of FPS (first-person shooter) games before everybody and their uncle decided to make one. A game that doesn't take itself seriously and has old school tricks such as hidden rooms, panels to push, secret entrances, etc. The game reminds me of Duke Nuke Em in that the main character, Serious Sam, is always uttering a funny phrase or something that is extremely ironic. (Like when he yells, "Is that all you got?!" and suddenly about 100 beasties start running at him.)

All the usual weapons are available: gattling guns, rocket launchers, etc. The monsters are creative departures from the usual FPS games. But the best part of the game is the price. The game also comes with (or you can download) utilites to make maps, skins, etc. The multiplayer mode is fun and uses three different types of formats for online games.

Not a disappointment for FPS fans and a game that could draw in computer game users that normally shy away from FPS software.

A SERIOUS bargain

Serious Sam is not the best FPS out there. It will never be Half-Life or No One Lives Forever. But it is the probably the best budget-priced game I have ever bought.

You play as Serious Sam, some crazy tank-top wearing dude who is sent back in time to save the world. He travels back to Egyptian times to defeat the would be conquerors of the universe. OK well the story isn't all that great....but the game is.

The graphics are suprisingly really good as well as the sound. As far as gameplay...it's basically everything and the kitchen sink thrown at you wave after wave after wave. Some of the enemies are very well done, especially the headless kamikazees who carry bombs and come running at you screaming (how they scream without heads is beyond me). The weapons, well theres 10 of em...nothing really revolutionary except for the "cannon" which is pretty darn interesting. It's basically a hand held cannon which shoots huge cannonballs clearing everything in its path, pretty destructive! Though most of the time you will probably opt for the rocket launcher...at least that was my weapon of choice.

The length of the game though is pretty short...you can finish it the same day you buy it (I didn't eat though and my eyes felt like they were bleeding from lack of sleep...so lets say 2 days). Fortunately there are many secrets hidden throughout the game and it's just darn fun enough to keep you playing again and again.

If you've got the money buy Half-Life or No One Lives Forever. But if you're a bit shy or have a little left over for something extra, pick up this bargain of a title, you wont regret it!

I'm SERIOUS

Seriously, Get This Game

Despite its cheesy box cover art and dorky title, Serious Sam (SS) is one heck of a hoot. Between "heavy" titles like "Deus Ex" and "Baldur's Gate II", SS comes as needed relief. After all, what's better than gunning down hundreds of Beheaded Cannonball Berzerkers with a gatling gun while traveling through a temple in 15th century Egypt? SS never tries to be serious, and this is what makes the game superb. The graphics, albeit limited in scope to the Egypt locale, are rendered beautifully, especially on fast machines (love my GeForce 3!). The gameplay is nothing new, so expect your index finger to cramp up quite regularly. For what SS lacks in length, it makes up for in price. At $20, this game is an absolute steal. It's quite difficult, even on the easiest settings, so get used to the Quick Save key. The bottom line: If you're looking for mindless, fun action, then SS is your game. For $20, nothing compares to this gem of absolute mayhem.

Have You Noticed Every Review has the word "Fun?"

There's a reason for that--this game is extremely (or should I say "seriously") fun. The graphics are pretty good, some monsters look cheesy, and some look great. But when there's more than you can count rushing you from all sides and from the air, you won't care. You'll just keep pulling the trigger.

Serious Sam comes with some of that much missed Attitude that Duke Nukem brought to this genre a long time ago. There are humorous lines and nice touches through out.

Unlike Duke Nukem and Quake 2 (and I loved those too) , you don't have those puzzles where you're running around for a key, or a hint or something--any puzzle is made pretty simple as the point here is to shoot and kill. There's not much quiet time...its just more and more monsters coming at you.

I somewhat agree with others on the Network games, but its mixed. Sometimes I'll join and one will be unplayable. Other times I'll join and it works great. I have a cable modem by the way. I've noticed Co-op mode is pretty fun, and brings out even MORE monsters than you thought possible. Also, it doesn't hurt that if you die, you can keep going.

I bought this game at a local retailer (sorry Amazon) for 14.99 plus tax. For the money, you cannot beat this game at all, period. If you like action games, if you liked old arcade games, heck if you like any kind of game, you'll love this.

Serious gaming fun

This first thing i thought of when i played this game was Doom...except WITHOUT THE KEYS. Omg the only think i remember not liking about doom was the stupid keys you had to collect in the sometimes maze-like levels. This game reminds me so much of Doom 1 and 2 though, except with much better technology and movement of course, considering its been several years since those 2 games came out...

The game looks as good as Quake 3, at least as far as i car enough to look (too fun to notice), but it's more fun to play than Quake because it has a linear progression to it instead of just Deathmatch single player. As for multiplayer, this game also has deathmatch as well as scoring fragfests where you get more points for killing better players. However, unlike Quake3, this game comes with co-op muliplayer without having to buy the extra team pack (and you'll notice this game is.. up top...)

Easily the best deal for a FPS since Quake 3 with team play is.. more. This is the most fun I've ever had playing a FPS, and I've played them all (Doom, Quake, Unreal, UT, and counter-strike). This is a pure FPS.

Gamespot's best game of 2001

I thought Gamespot (respectable gaming website) was insane in giving a budget title the GAME OF THE YEAR AWARD. Especially since this game involves so unoriginal...

I love originality. But I must admit. This game rocks.

It's got nothing that other games haven't tried before. Bad-ass wise-cracking heroes. Huge monsters. A number of weapons only a tank could carry. Monsters. Almost inexistant plot.

But the thing is, this game is FUN. The game sometimes reaches the point of utter insanity, literaly hundreds and hundreds of enemies swarming your way. There are no puzzles, there is no jumping platforms. It's just shooting shooting shooting.

What seems to strike me as the best part of it all are the weapons. Nothing incredibly original, you have the double-barrel shotgun, you have the machine gun, you have the rocket launcher, super-laser-weapon of sorts. But what amazes me is that every one of them is useful at one spot or another. There is no ultimate weapon. Even the most powerful weapon is useless at certain parts of the game.

The graphics are great. This is a great way to impress your friends with your new 3D card. If you don't have a good card, no biggie, just tone down to the bare minimums, and it'll work great.

I'm raving about the game, and I've never even tried online co-op, where you can go through the single-player levels with your online buddies. That supposedly is the best part of the game.

I would gladly pay full price for this kind of entertainment. The campaign is 5 hours long, but you can always go through it again. Games that are pure action don't get boring after the first go.

Serious Sam. It doesn't do anything new, but it does everything right. And in the end, that's all that matters.

A 4 star game but the price makes it a 5 star

If you love FPS games, Serious Sam is for you. With Fantastic Graphics and cool 3D audio support this game will have you entertained for hours...

The gameplay is nothing original, the enemy AI is not really impressive but it is still great fun by just the sheer amount of action you get(you will not believe the number of enemies this game will throw at you).

It all started with a screenshot. There was this giant BFG-type weapon pointed at a multi-tentacled monster that took up nearly the whole screen. In the background, one could see the sun and it's glare. Unfortunately I couldn't remember the name of the game until I did a little research. The demo download took 5 hours, but it was all worth it. This game is AMAZING when you consider that it was made by a bunch of foreigners (Croatians)and it's their first game. Sure, this game could have been better in many ways, but it does so many things RIGHT. The textures are absolutely gorgeous--almost photo-quality. The sun, like I mentioned, is PERFECT. The weapons bring back memories of Doom. The enemies are far from smart, but they are the most original enemies that I've ever seen. I absolutely love that bull creature that kicks you up into the air with his horns! One other thing that I am VERY happy to see is WELL-LIGHTED levels. I CAN'T STAND FPS's where you're groping in the darkness and batting your eyes at stupid strobe-light effects. You want light? Why, you'll get so much of it it'll give you a sunburn. Five difficulty levels, lots of enemies and weapons. I hear there's a co-op mode as well as multiplayer..... Like me, if you can't shell out the dough, get the demo, it's GREAT!

Loved the emphasis on non-stop, senseless action throughout. Could not believe the outrageous numbers of baddies flooding my screen. I haven't enjoyed the shotgun so much in a shooter since Doom 2. The graphics engine is excellent.

Occasionally they did fall into a formula of: "so you killed 30 of my beasties.. so.. how about 50 HAHAHAHAHA.. next 100!!" So, there were some parts I had to play repeatedly, but it rarely stopped being fun.

Can't beat it for ...
