My thoughts on the single Player RTCW

Hello,

First of all, I'm one of the Wolf 3D players who still has
the game installed on my computer. I remember when wolf3d came out and I bought my copy and played it more then any other game .. I was hooked.

Since I got my copy of RTCW, I've only played the single player game and haven't tried multi-player at all. I only have a 56K connection and nothing else is available in my area. (Lag - Sigh.)

The install of the game is easy and I had no problems with it.

I felt the game was more like .. shoot a zombie, rather then shoot a soldier. Some things you have to figure out how to do and in the correct order and so on, but that is ok. The game is fun and the graphics are very nice. When meeting up the with first boss, I found the area (Single room,) was kinda small and the boss only chased me around in that area, Unlike wolf3D. I found the catacombs a bit to dark even with gamma set to full.
I turned the brightness on my monitor to full and it helped somewhat.

I hope they update and add new features to the game which will keep it alive / on going. I also hope the users / players, make cool maps and add-ons that work well with the game.

To sum up, The game is fun to play. Some events are staged events. The gamer should be chased around more by Bosses. All over the level if need be.

It is hard to compare the 2 games though. Wolf3d was excellent for the time it came out (in 1991 I think,) and RTCW being a modern game with excellent graphic design, makes one feel things are different and more - real to life. They are and it works well. Wolf3d has more of a more cartoon look and feel nowadays.
Keep the old feel / old look vrs new feel / new look in mind when checking out this game. Times have changed and the game is modern / different. You can still look behind pictures / find secrets and pick up helth ammo and do all that. Jump around a lot and you'll be hard to hit. Watch out for the bullets bounching back of the shields of the zombies. Move around and take good shots and don't forget your Knife.

The game looks very nice and the game play is smooth. It is easy to move around and play.

Final Thoughts:

This game is a lot of fun. Even if you feel you are not playing a true Wolf3d follow up (not that you won't,) You'll like this game. Scary also. I hear the multi-Player is super.

Just get the game you'll like it!

I just finished the best game of 2001. I've read other reviews and comments by the critics and quite frankly I don't understand how they can't give it the best game of 2001. I've only played the single player thusfar and it has lived up to my expectations. Superb graphics, sound, weaponery, and story line. I was a huge fan of Max Payne before sitting down to Return to Castle Wolfenstein, but now I believe this is the best game of the year. All of this before even trying the Multi-Player. Wow, two games in one. Do yourself a favor and go out and get this game today.

You can't go wrong with RTCW. Unless you can't meet the system requirments. The game has beautiful map designed combined with realistic WWII weapons. The character design is pretty good.

On the bad side you may experience low framerate even on high ended systems. The enemies aren't particularly smart, and you can easily run away and hide if seen. The enemies don't necessarily need to be standing next to an alarm to activate it, in fact they can be on the other side of the map. The pistol weapons are completely useless, and the advanced weapons are inconvinient. Most of the time you'll use an automatic weapon or sniper rifle. As stated by others the single player is quite short, but it doesn't really lack anything.

If you're a fan of FPS's in general you need to own this. I don't think you can go wrong, and if you do you can always take it back.

When I bought the game I thought it was alot like Quake. Running around and killing things, in this case nazists.
Man, was I wrong!
Beautiful grafics, smart AI, cool weapons, and the best of all: the game really freeked me out! I meen, it`s really spooky...
Think about it... German scientists experimenting with human DNA to make better and stronger soldiers. Monsters who the nazists themselves almost can`t handle. (sometimes I found myself holding my breath just listening for nazists or worse things coming up around the corner)

Together with the superb music, sounds and the many variations this is one of the best games I have ever played.

best WWII game I played so far out standing graphics celeron 700MHZ 128RAM GeFORCE 2 MX 400 graphics card the game runs find with the gaphics turned on high very fun game to play. buy it

Multiplayer Mayhem Rocks

This is a great game. The single player mode is very fun. I completed it over the course of a weekend. It's actually a good warmup to hone your skills before jumping into the multiplayer fray. The multiplayer game is awesome. There are several very good maps and I am already craving more. All my friends who have tried the game became instant addicts.

There was one hitch in my install. The game didn't like the video driver I had for my Nvidia Riva TNT2 video card. I got the latest driver from the Nvidia website and it works fine. For multiplayer you might want to upgrade your RAM. I found that with 128MB on my PIII 800 system I was getting into new games a lot slower than other people. I upgraded to 384MB of RAM and get into games a lot faster now.

Fantastic gaming experience.......

Forget any critical reviewers who may have given this game anything less that 5 stars.....

RTCW provides unparalleled gaming experience. Fantastic graphics and sound, superb locales and missions, and tough AI makes for an unforgettable experience.

Anyone who even remotely enjoys FPS - don't waste your time reading this - go out and buy this game and start playing. For hard core FPS fans - this game is paradise.

Please also check out the other equally fantastic game released at about the same time - "Medal of Honor Allied Assault".

Phenomenal .......!!

A really great game. Its Best described as a cross between a World War 2 Combat zone and the nightmare I had last week.
The AI used in the enemies is very refined. The Nazis set up ambushes, sneak up on you, retreat, snipe, relocate, regroup, probe your positions, and hunt you down with brutal efficiency. then there the "other" things. The Reich's scientist have created zombies and scientific terrors they call "Uber Slodat" The later levels are rough, to say the least. As for weapons; You use everything from secret experimental
weapons to kicking and throwing chairs at attackers.
My only complaint is that the game could have been more challenging and allot longer.

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

If you like the kind of games the will scare the s#$t out of you at night.... This is it!! The single player is very challenging, even on easy, and the multiplayer is incredible since you can play with more than 64 players at once on one server!!! No matter what kind of First-Person gamer you are, you'll love flamethrowing people, sniping them out from towers, calling in for airplane support for bombs, and even kill people with bazooka-like panzerfausts!!! This game is one of the best ever made and I want to thank whoever made it cause it's a lot of fun.

The many different enemies you will encounter are awesome. Some of them will even make you jump out of your seat. It is like going to an absolute different world. The game play is smooth as silk. Two of the level has some jumping around problems. I have a radion 8500 so think it is the game but it is otherwise perfect.
This game is absolutely the best I have ever played. I hope they come out with more scenarios.
