I've played this game for about 4-5 months now and here's what I've discovered it's very repetitive. There are seven major things you can do in this game leveling, crafting, fishing, making money, quests, and missions. All of which can only be done independent of each other so you cannot level your character and make money at the same time effectively, thus all seven things consume a lot of time. Leveling takes the most time expect to sit at your computer for 3-5 hours before you gain one level that encompasses "forming a party", "getting to your destination to level" and finally "actually getting experience points". This game is a very "Party" oriented game almost everything you do with the exception of "crafting", "fishing", "making money", and some "quests" requires you to be in a party. The rewards in this game are few but great, but this game makes your work for it at times you will hate this game and find yourself cursing in chat at this game and other times it can be very fun. This game requires a lot of skill, there is a lot of depth to this game down to the phase of the moon, time of the day and day of the week can have an impact on what happens.
Major problems with this game is "gil sellng" ("gil" is the currency used in the game) or in game money selling since this game is so money oriented and you don't get a lot of money for doing quest or missions there are people from all around the world that sell in game money for real money as sad as that sounds it's true. It has a big impact on the game for one inflation things are crazy expensive because the "gil sellers" camp all of the monsters that drop valuable items and sell them in the game for "gil" and in turn sell that "gil" for real life money. Now remember these folks are getting paid real money to play this game so they can spend 24 hours a day 7 days a week doing this. You might be thinking these guys can't be everywhere but they are believe me they travel in groups of 3-5 and all they do is kill things and sell them at the auction house for gil and sell that gil to people for real money. Is the Square Enix doing anything to stop people from selling gil online NO to date there has been no official word or progress report as to how Square Enix will remedy this problem. Another problem in this game is population the areas in this game are too small and sometimes it can be very crowded and very competitive for that monster you need to kill for experience points sometimes you will wait 5-10 minutes because all the monsters have been taken and you need to wait till they spawn again. Is this because there are a lack of servers no, when you leveling your character you need to go to specific places and sometimes there can be more players than there is room this is a problem on all servers.
Is this game for everyone NO if you can't afford to sit at your PC for 3-5 hours at a time forget it cancel your order now because you will just be wasting money. You won't get anywhere period. If you think this game is just hack and slash forget it cancel your order now and save yourself some money and aggravation. This game requires alot of attention to detail inorder to advance and have fun.
Pixelated graphics?

Just a quick counter point to those that say the PC versions graphics are pixelated. If you have a nice video card with bump mapping turned on, and full resolution (1280x1024) it looks beautiful, even in extreme closeups.
On the other hand, the game can be fairly boring. I am NOT a fanboy for he Final Fantasy series. In fact, I really only liked the first 3. This is an average MMORPG.

Well i should say first that i don't own this game yet. So i can't really argue or whatever. But after reading like 20+ positive and negative reviews, I would still like to try it. I'm not against anybody but still i really like MMORPGs like Ragnarok Online. I know i've heard that its hard to level, but i have the determination and patience, everything will be JUST FINE. I've got 2 friends already playing online and waiting for my turn. So if i start they will help me out so i can understand better. If you're solo, it will be harder like the other reviews say but don't be discouraged. So if you're confused weither to buy it or not, at least TRY, it might suit you or not so i also suggest to try to search for the lowest price online for buying the game. DON'T BUY USED GAMES, i never trust them. Just keep in mind that if you don't pay for 3 months they'll delete everything and your game will be swallowed by the garbage can. ALL MMORPGs rely on TIME i repeat T-I-M-E, so if you don't have the time, then i tell you not to buy. Of course nothing is gonna be easy or else it will be over already and people won't be playing. This game has been out for a year already, I still see lots of people playing. As the other reviews say, there is ALOT out there, you just need the determination and curiousity. IF you're lazy, hoping to get everything done as soon as possible then please don't try this game. It might sound like im already owning this game but i don't, im just trying to make some sense here. Thanks for reading. Hope it helps a bit at least.
This game is the most annoying and tedious mmorpg ever!!!

I have played quite a few mmorpgs and i gotta say, this one is the most annoying and tedious one out in the market. Just to give u a few examples. To ride a chocobo, you gotta be lv 20, and u have to complete a quest to do it. To use the airships, you have to complete 6 missions, the last one is a ridiculously long ass quest. To be able to be an advance class (ninja, samurai, summoner, ranger, etc) you need to reach lv 30 first, and complete a quests. The worst thing of all, you gotta get to lv 18 and complete a quest just to get a subjob! And you wanna know how hard this quests is?? My group and i have just spent the last 3 hours trying to find 1 item, for this quest, and we have only found 1. Square decided to make this 1 item, a rare drop, and on a mob that hardly ever spawns! So let me say this again! Do not buy this game. cause you will definitly start to hate it. I surely know that i am canceling.

Fist I should say, that I love the Final fantasy series. I own all the games, and even the anime series. The game is awesome, its a vast world where you can live like you want. But on the other side of the blade, it can be a little repetitive and in turn boring. First you can spend hours fighting the same monsters to save money, and spend the money on armor and weapons that are just like everyone elses. If you get tired of that then you can spend a few more hours fishing, cast and reel cast and reel... Or you can go and fight more monsters to collect crystals and materials to make the same redundant looking outfits as everyone else.
Theres hardly any individuality in the game. What happened to colors on armor or having emblems for guilds and such?
And someone mentioned that you can travel to far off lands. Well, its true, if you can brave through the frontier to make it there, because you cant ride a chocobo or ride the airship until your like level 20. So your stuck in the same land, fighting the same monsters over and over.
Im more of a DAOC fan because of the PvP aspects. As soon as FFXI opens up massive PvP, Im in. Until then, no thx.

when i read some of the reviews i start to think the game is bad and i alredy ordered it but thru my own research i find that they probably have not played the game more than a few hours. And they complain too much about the monthly fee even i've never played a game where you play monthly but i understand that it cost a lot of money to keep the servers up and they also update the game monthly. then they refer to games like halo for pc and diablo and ageOE but that kind of game is totally diferent.they also say wheen they buy it the gamee doesnt work because of the graphics card they have but that is there own fault who buys a game without knowing what graphics card it uses they can easily go to the website www.playonline.com to find out if there computer meets the requirements all in all dont trust the OTHER reviews giving negative opinions on the game and just to make sure do some of your own research like i did to see if you like it and make sure youre pc can hold up all in all its a great game.

I've heard people say that they played this game for an hour and thought it sucked. You cannot play this game for any less than a WEEK MINIMUM to have any kind of valid opinion of the game. I've been playing for a couple months and i've done a lot of stuff.... yet i've only scratched the tip of the iceberg... have not even chipped it yet. There is so much to do in this game and its so inovative. So many different jobs you can be (new ones yet to come) each filled with abilities, yet you can sub any other job for a variety of combinations. Quests and missions up the yin-yang as well as the smartest thing they could have added to the game... the Auction House where you can sell your stuff and buy stuff for better prices than NPC shops. There is just so much to this game that once you think you've seen it all... you find something new... and while they keep releasing expansions, the world and everything you can do just gets bigger.
A great game wonderful graphics what else do you want?

when I first got this game I had a tough time and didn't like chasing worms for 12.95 a month. But as the storyline evolved I started to like it more and more. I was extremely suprised to see that the people who gave it bad ratings didn't understand the plot line could it be that they never have read book in their life? I won't tell you the plot cause that my ruin the game. You have to dig for the plot to find it. I also find it idiotic that people are getting defensive. I don't play this game all the time as I can see that some of you do but i like it when i play and most of my friends love it. It has amazing graphics and it might be slow on older comps and it adds up money wise. But it doesn't get old because they constantly update the game. All in all it's a great game i would highly recomend you buy it. It gets ridiculous to spend money if you don't use it. So you should buy this game if you've played it before or like games like this.
BEST GAME EVER TO HIT THE EARTH!

This is a very great game. But there are some flaws to the game, one, you have to pay $13.00 a month, 2, (it is not that bad but)it costs an extra $1 on your bill to get another character. But overall this is the best game yet. It also has great graphics then all the other games you see. You get to make your own person to play in this game. So please, dont listen to all the other bad reveiws, look at the positive ones because if you are a FF fan, this is the game for you!
