After I finished playing Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy X I thought to my self that there was absoultly no way they could outdone those games. Luckily I see that I was wrong. But this time I really think they can't do better. Let's hope I'm wrong. Well let's cut to the chase. This game is absolutly amazing after playing a couple of hours in the beta test over a friends house I was totally shocked I couldn't belive it. In this game you completely create your characters, is totally amazing. You can choose a career for your character, it can be from warrior to mage and from monk to black mage, and in some levels of the game you can convine them, funnily enough you can create a monk who is skilled also in black magic. In a vast continent you can create everything and join aparty and travel with them the vast world of Vana'Diel, along with that the graphics are amazing, as always in a FF game, and the opportunity to interact with other players like in the auctions where at least real human beings will rip you off and no some NPC(bloody scamers).Anyway pardon my language,i'm very ashamed, anyway as I was saying this game is totally amazing I am going to buy it as soon its abailable, you should do so your self.

Pardon my spelling and horrography,I was never good at language arts

Awesome Game

Don't believe what the people say, there are guilds, they are just called "Linkshells".
Also the resolutions and other stuff can be changed to look better.
I suggest when playing to use your numberpad, because it is easy and compact. You can also use a gamepad according to SquareEnix. The menu's don't take up the screen if you have HALF a brain and did what the game said and "Edited your Configuaration".
The missions (quests) are ment to be done as a group, not alone. That is why the game is multiplayer. There are also plenty of places to level up.
And the races are fine, you have a selection of 5 Races, Male and Female for Hume/Tarutaru/Elvaan. The Classes are excellent, plus the extra ones you can get aswell. The Graphics are great and the gameplay is fun.
The Battles are very unique. Usally when not in a battle your characters weapon will be on his back, side or wherever. When you engage a enemy he grabs it and gets ready for battle, the angle changes. There are also Abilities to use for your special class.
I'd recommend this game, very good. Just make sure you configure it.

Not worth your time, fair but negative review.

I am a fair reviewer of games, and this game is extremely time consuming. Once you gain experience and levels you will be forced to go on a death march just to get to an area worth your time in fighting. It can take as long as 45 minutes just to go from your home base to an acceptable location. There are no personalized mounts, so you must use paid mounts that are only available around level 25 or so and after doing a quest that again is about an hour walking time away. They also charge you on a monthly basis rather than a cycle. For example if you activate your account on October 31st you will end up paying for the entire month of October without a pro-rate. You will then be rebilled on November 1st. I for one re-activated my account on October 19th, 2005 and cancelled on November 1st. I was charged $25.90 for 12 days of game play. If you plan on re-activating a character, you should consider doing it at the beginning of the month. If you are new to the game, they will pro-rate you for the month after your free trial is up. Please note that they also take down the registration servers at the end of the month so you cannot cancel on the last day of the month. This is very shady of Square-Enix to do although they do tell you in advance. This is still not acceptable. Square-Enix also charges $1.00 for each additional content-ID (used for each character), the competiton typically allows for multiple characters for the same monthly cost. The auction house does not have a search feature and you will have to go through each catagory 1 at a time and forget it being in alphabetical order, it is randomly assorted and painful to navigate. After 2 years of this game making its debut, the graphical glitches such as grid seems on the terrain are still evident and it feels as if no content has been added. The company only creates added content for extremely high levels, so if you didn't get in the game back then, it is very difficult to work your way to the top since the starting and midrange realms are desolate. You are required to be in a party most of the time and just trying to gather a party can be a painstaking task. The PlayOnline client is awkward at best and will require at least 5-6 clicks just to enter the game. FFXI has had more down-time lately, constantly DDoS'd (Denial of Service from rogue people purposely trying to tax the server by hitting it with massive bandwidth attacks. Basically you cannot log in) and they do not reimburse you in anyway like Blizzard does (they offer extra playtime for free to the end of your billing cycle). If you are going to pick a MMORPG to play. Go with WoW. Hands down!

Good idea, if it wasn't Final Fantasy...

I'm gonna be frank with this, I love Final Fantasy. I've beaten roughly every single one except for the Nintendo versions. When I heard of Final Fantasy XI it sounded like a great idea. How could a company with so much success in rpgs mess up this? It became apparent to me.

The Final Fantasy series was never meant to be an online RPG. This fact alone plagues the game because most people who end up playing this will try rationalizing all of its various problems based on the success of the series. For an MMORPG, though I havn't played many, Final Fantasy is certainly top notch with an excellent quantity of things to do and people to interact with. So with that in mind, I shall list the pros and cons.

Pros-

With right video card and cpu, this game is dazzling to look at

So much to keep someone occupied such as smithing, woodworking, bone crafting, hunting, etc.

Thousands of people to interact with on vast server

----------------------------------------

Cons-

Final Fantasy fans are for the most part NOT MMORPG fans

Combat is bland

It is near impossible to escape from battle without a certan thief move.

Game is often too large, dying could mean at least ten minutes of walking to the destination you were at.

Enemy variation in difficulty is sudden; one could kick a certain enemies butt, and face another of the same type and get wrecked.

For anybody with a cable modem or dsl, enjoy the lovely 2 hour download before you can even start the game. Thats assuming you dont have the download canceled in the middle of it like it did for me.

Anybody who has 56k, dont even bother trying to play this game.

Some quests are as simple as wearing something, while others require to kill hundreds of tough monsters to acquire four items that never seem to drop.

----------------------------------------

Besides all that, if you are a fan of MMORPG's, this game should please you for some time.

Review after 80 hours.

I played this game for about 80 hours, then quit completely. The reason for this is because the game is so boring in the beginning, it makes you want to tear up the disk and throw it at the creators.

Ok so I'll be fair and give you some pros...and of course cons.

Pros------------------
1.Nice graphis with high res, and fair battle engine.
2.Rewarding game after you play for about 200-300+ hours.
3.Fast load.

Cons------------------
1.If you want to play this game with a friend, your friend has to go in-game and spend a considerable abount of gil (money) on something called a 'World Pass'. This allows you to make your character on their server, but can only be used once.
2.Very slow traveling and leveling.
3.Expensive fee.
4.Need a friend in real life before you start this game to help you.

As you can see in my review, the cons overshadow the pros.

Final fantasy at its best

This is one of the greatest FFs ive ever played. The best way to summarize it is that this game is a Real Time Final fantasy Tactics. You can choose your race, what kingdom you want to start in, and what Job you want to be. As you complete quests, you can unlock more Jobs. When you reach level 18, you have the choice of adding a sub-job, which adds variety.

Some people say the controls are wierd. There not that wierd once you change a few things. In the game, go to the main menu, then go to config, and change the keyboard setting to compact. this makes the controls 10 times easier.

The graphics are nice and the music is top-notch. What also good about this game is its EXTREMELY high replay value. Dont wanna fight, master 10+ crafts such as Blacksmith, GoldSmith, carpenter, and more. Dont wanna do that? Grow a garden or go fishing. Dont wanna do that? Open your own bazzar and sell items at your own prices.

Forming parties is the key thing in this game. Battles can be much easier once you form parties. Its also good to have a mix of jobs in a party. Your party should not consist only of attackers or Mages. It should be a combo of both. One good idea is An attacker, a tank (person who takes all the damage), an Black mage, and a Healer (Bard or White Mage).

Overall this game is a mustbuy. Read the other reviews if you dont believe me.

By the way. If anyone wants to form a party and is in the Kjata server, contact me. My name is Acton and im a lvl. 5+ Galkan Monk. Im willing to join any plarty

This one is only for the 'Hardcore' Gamer

These are the reasons why the FF XI is a landmark game but should be approached with much caution.

PROS
1. Incredible Graphics and a vast landscape that is unrivaled is every aspect. In fact, the world in this game is so large and gorgeous that just exploring it is almost worth the price of admission.
2. Very sociable envirionment with hundreds of friendly players. Making good friends in this game is not hard.
3. Astounding number of items and secrets to discover.
4. Hundreds upon hundreds of weapons, armor and accessories to equip to your player.
5. Entertaining storyline which involves everything from building fame in your nation to slaying a dangerous dragon deep in Yughott Grotto.
6. Solid online experience with NO bugs.

CONS
1. Very difficult learning curve. This game is HARSH to new players.
2. Keyboard controls can be very tiresome. Designating 'hot keys' for certain vital actions is nessessary and requires decent HTML knowledge.
3. Gaining levels is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. Prepare yourself for alot of frustration. At later levels anywhere between 5000-8000 EXP is required to gain 1 level. Depending on your party you can get 600-900 exp in one hour (which is the best case scenerio). If you and/or your party dies you lose 10% of the EXP you gained towards your next level. If you dont have 10% towards your next level yet you will LOSE a level. When you die you also need to return to your 'Home-Point' which can potentially be HOURS away from your current leveling area unless you are very careful. Please note that I am not exaggerating in the slightest.
4. Finding some items for completing quests is an absolute NIGHTMARE. For example, finding the Skull for the Sub-Job quest (which is a very important quest) can literally take hours upon hours and even DAYS depending on your luck. Items like these are dropped by enemies too rarely and finding them becomes more of a ludicrous fiasco than anything else. This is one example of many that I've experienced first hand.
5. FF XI is a FULL TIME JOB. If you want to level your characters to Level 30 (out of 70 levels) with an advanced job, sub-job, strong weapons and armor, decent accessories, Airship pass, Chocobo License, Money, Fame, and Crafting skills you are looking at approximately 2-3 months of gameplay considering that you play atleast 6 hours a day and are willing to put in your full effort. For a casual gamer to achieve these stats it could take up to 5 months at which point the Monthly Fee of $13 would amount to more than the game itself cost.

Final Fantasy 11 is a landmark game. Graphically and technically this game is remarkable but it is let down by its slow gameplay and excessive difficulty. If you have the time (ALOT of it) and the money give it a shot. Afterall, exploring the landscapes and kingdoms of this world is one of the most amazing gaming expeiences I've ever had.

this is a beautiful game. if u lisson to the stupid messages otherpeople say about leveling is slow there rong. they just dont play as much as most people. im only level 6 but it is fun to level it is also fun to meet other people. otherwise, the graphics r great and gameplay is awsum. it takes awile to level but its not sumthin to complain about. it is very cool the jobs you can choose from. u can be different jobs like: warrior, monk, white mage, black mage, red mage, thief. and u can have support jobs: paladin, black night, ranger, bard, summoner, samuria, ninja, dragoon, and beast master. from the summons, the magic, the fiteing and the shooting, this game is great with weapons like GUNS (YES GUNS!!!!, bows, swords, axes, staves, daggers, etc etc etc this game blows diablo 2 away (but then again... i dont like d2 cuz i got hacked :( tear tear) but it is great if u liked ff1-10 u will love ff11. this is a must buy. but u have to pay 14 dollers a month but its no prob if ur not poor so go out and buy this game rite now. u better be getting it rite now!!!!! just joshing... but buy it....

Dull, boring, waste of time and money.

I love MMORPGs, but I have limited time, so that makes joining groups rare for me. With this kind of game it pretty much requires you to group. Also, when you buy this game, don't plan on playing it the same day. It took over 5 hours to install, register and download all the updates. This is on an athlon 64 with 1.5 gigs of ram and a cable modem. The whole Playstation interface is just horrible for a computer game, and the constant loading of areas really kills the feel of this game. Also, the need to load each different area has caused me to die several times, because the game has a tendancy to load you right next to monsters. Also, there is no real exploring of this game unless you are at least the level of surrounding monsters. Anything with a higher level than you have WILL kill you, unfortuntely doing anyhting as simple as checking the level of the monster you are fighting requres several clicks of the mouse. Oh, forgot to mention that there seem to be about 3 monsters per area, and they go from extremely weak, to extremely powerfull. You can't tell how powerfull a monster is going to be untill it kills you.

Overall this game was just horrible. I spent about a month playing it every chance I had and in the end I felt cheated of my time and money. It was more frustrating than fun, but I kept thinking if I get to the next level it wil be more fun. Well, it never got fun.

Unbeliably good game!!! 10 stars!

First let me say that I trully, trully love this game!!! Ok, so here is what makes this game the best game i have ever ever played:

-Graphics are stupendous. Considering that this is an online game with thousands of players, the graphics are very detailed and they run very smoothly. I sometimes like to just take in the beautiful scenery.

-Gameplay is wonderful. Never a dull moment. There is really too much to say about this topic since what you can do in the game would be hard to say in 1,000 words here. You can do missions, quests, create items of different kinds (as in bone items, gold items, and many other types of items), you can join other players and go on a killing rampage accross the land against difficult monsters (this is my favorite part of the game :) ), you can fish, etc, etc, etc... There is never a dull moment. If you get tired of fighting you can create items for other players and make yourself some good money. You can fish and make $ that way also. Ok, on to another topic.... (too much to say here)

-Cost of the game is low. They give you 30 days free trial, which is very good. Considering how much work went into this game and how well it is done, I think the cost is very low for this game.

If you buy this game, I highly doubt you will be dissappointed. It is an excellent, excellet game :)
