I must begin this review with one word, Wow.
This game, after my extensive previews and looks and insights on the mechanics and workings, I find to be simply amazing.
The player will find himself in the largest known world ever made in a video game. In fact, this world is SO large, that it makes Morrowind's world look tiny.
Not only is this place insanely large, but it is also incredibly detailed and beautiful as well, no one in their right mind will ever bore from simply sight seeing.
I simply have never encountered such a wonder; crammed inside a remarkable game.
The PC version will entail a $50 retail, while the PS2 version will be double that, because of a bundled Hard Drive. The disc will never have to be used again though. Insanely large game, and insanely cool.
There is a one month trial period of this game, because it is entirely online. If the buyer loves it enough, he or she will submit his or herself to the monthly fee of $12.95.
I might add, however, that the money will be ENTIRELY worth it.
Expect an awesome game that will rival and may even become the next Evercrack... pardon me, I mean Everquest.

Two thumbs up!

After I finished playing Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy X I thought to my self that there was absoultly no way they could outdone those games. Luckily I see that I was wrong. But this time I really think they can't do better. Let's hope I'm wrong. Well let's cut to the chase. This game is absolutly amazing after playing a couple of hours in the beta test over a friends house I was totally shocked I couldn't belive it. In this game you completely create your characters, is totally amazing. You can choose a career for your character, it can be from warrior to mage and from monk to black mage, and in some levels of the game you can convine them, funnily enough you can create a monk who is skilled also in black magic. In a vast continent you can create everything and join aparty and travel with them the vast world of Vana'Diel, along with that the graphics are amazing, as always in a FF game, and the opportunity to interact with other players like in the auctions where at least real human beings will rip you off and no some NPC(bloody scamers).Anyway pardon my language,i'm very ashamed, anyway as I was saying this game is totally amazing I am going to buy it as soon its abailable, you should do so your self.

Pardon my spelling and horrography,I was never good at language arts

YES!! and Darn!!

I was so happy when I heard they were making an oline FF game. Final Fantasy is my favorite type of game.... It's really cool, but like all online games, you have to pay a fee. You have to pay $12.95 a month, and and extra $1.00 to play tetra master (see FF IX). Despite that, this game rocks!

AWESOME

its just, WOW, i mean this whole video game world is awesome its so large that you could get lost in it, and the character making part is the best.i mean this game has some of the best graphics i have ever seen. square enix has really outdone itself on this game. the only reason im giving this game 4 stars is not for the game itself but for the monthly fee. i mean come on. i love final fantasy since the very first one but i cant afford to spend 12.50 a month to play this game. i'm telling you that this game is worth the money but for the people who dont make 12.50 a month its a real hassle. im telling you though if you love final fantasy and can afford the monthly fee then buy this game its totally worth it.

I play ff11 it is not too good. Beccause it take dollars (12 USD) each month to play. The play is very cool. Because the people who play here in Japan are nice to others and no one fight with anyone else but the monsters. The story part of FF11 is not fun at all compar to the monster fight and tetra card play. I like to (chat) with my friends in the party because they live in my bilding. We have fast connection speed. The review is for america version. I think america version have not fast speed like japan. That hwat my 1 friend tell me. If i was america game player I would buy ff11 and because it is fun. a bad thing is you play and have to pay every month. japan is richer than america game players so i think you should only buy ff11 if you have jobs. And you want to play have fun. I have job so i can buy it. 1 of my friend had no job and he plays ff11 in fighter party. america is 12 dollar month the SQ-E internet said. it is 15 america dollar at japan. 1 of my friend put what we pay to what america pay = 15 dollar. if you buy ff11 and you do not play then you lose money every month. i think america game player can loose all of his money when he not play ff11 every month * days,. if you like to (chat) for friend and fight big monster then you will buy. if you like to not play game ff11 so do not buy ff11. i want to play party america game playerss. we can kill monster if we on party.

A view from a former MMORPG Player

This will give you an idea of how the game plays. Even though I explain it from the view of someone that has played an MMORPG before this game is easy to learn. If you are new to online games this is a great start.

FFXI in Japan has really gained a lot of popularity. It's been out over a year now. There are 20+ servers with over 2k players on each server during prime time. Just as much or more than EQ had for its time.

When you start the game you choose from 6 different classes. Warrior, Monk, Thief, Red Mage, White Mage, Black Mage. Really all this choice determines is the few newbie items you start with though.

You are actully level 1 of each class. You can change classes at any time in your home town. Each class levels seperately from the other classes. So you could be a level 7 warrior and decide you would like to try a mage and start at level 1 with that mage. You lose nothing for switching.

At level 18 you get to have a subclass. If you don't have a subclass you will suck. As you gain level your stats go up. You get your subclass level at 1/2 your main class level. Unless you have not leveled that class up to that level. You get all the abilities that class gets and access to all spells. You don't get the super ability of that class. Super Abilities can be used once every 2hr. This is stuff like 30 sec invincibility. 30 sec 100% evade. 30 sec infinate mana. 45 sec 100% crit hits. 30 sec no spell cast time. You also get a % of the stats your subclass has. Between 30-50%.

So You can me a white mage/warrior. Warrior/monk. Thief/black mage. Whatever you like. You can change this at any time. So if you decide your subclass has stuff you like more you can switch that to your main class.

At level 30 you can do quests to unlock 9 more classes. Bard, Ranger, Dark Knight, Palidan, Beastmaster, Ninja, Samurai, Summoner and Dragoon.

Leveling is similar to EQ.

Even con solo gives 100 exp. 2 man group each person gets 70. 3 man group each person gets 50exp. So it's definately best to group.

At level 40+ it you can get about 1 level a day. At level 50 you can doa quest to unlock the cap to make it 60. Currently the cap is 70.

Death = 10% exp loss. 2.5% if you get a res. It's DAoC style death. You lay there and can watch the action. You have 1 hour to get a res. When you go back to your homepoint (stones in towns/guards in land you control bind you) you return with all items on you. No coin loss. No bad effects.

There are quests similar to EQ quests. bring me 4 bat wings bla bla. These are great for making cash early on. You can sell 4 bat wings for 40 gold or turn them in for 150 basicaly.

There are missions that raise your rank (some items are only available to higher ranks)
This is the story behind the game. This is unlike any other mmorpg. There is no real story line you follow in current games. PoP story is kind of a start. PoP story isn't something that you started at level 1 though. The FFXI expansion lets you continue the storyline. It's not just some random new land that was discovered.

There is no PVP. There is a land control system. Each week it is reset (the monsters take it back over) By killing stuff in the zone and turing crystals in from the mobs you gain "Conquest points" These help determine who owns the land and you can spend conquest points on some nice items. PvP may be Added sometime in early 2004.

There are raid type mobs that take 9-18 people to kill. Some of these bosses sound nasty. 1+hr fights. Stuff that triple attacks and takes main tanks to 50%-10% life in one round. Kills any caster in one round etc. These are fought with "Alliances" Most I've seen are 18 people. You see everyones lifebar on yourscreen at once.

There aren't really guilds. You get an item called a linkshell. It lets you talk to anyone with the same linkshell. you can own multiple linkshells. The one you talk in is determined by the shell you are wearing.

Your charecter can be in EQ like "bazaar mode" all the time. There are also auction houses in town that let you enter an item and min price at which you will sell. Players then enter an amount. If it is higher than your min they get the item. These transactions are recorded for the public to see. So you can get an idea for the going rate of the item.

I beta tested this & can't wait for release date!

I've never played an online game like this before and was amazed how easy this was to learn. I've been hooked from day one. The jobs are all different and you can change to them all without any loss of what you've learned in the other jobs. You get to "party" with others and if your lucky enough to get a great group, leveling is no problem. The missions and quests give you extra stuff to do other than leveling. I just can't wait to get back to playing with everyone.

OH MY GOD!

I was part of the beta testing and all I can say is WOW. The graphics rock! Characters are easy to see, spells look magnificent, great people, wonderful competition. Leveling is a pain BUT with a good team you can rake it in. Chatting is better than ever! Everything is drop down menu pretty much, WAY BETTER THAN EQ!!!!!!! Heck, you have a spell that can TRANSFER DEAD BODIES AROUND....LoL! Character movement will not make you nauseous...I have heard stories where people were getting motion sickness because of EQ's character movements. You have autotarget and don't have to keep chasing monsters. If you don't believe me, Google for screenshots.

Don't bother...

I played the Beta of this thing, what a waste of time. I'll just start by saying I've played all the Final Fantasy games previous to this one, many to the end, and enjoyed all of them.

This is not a Final Fantasy game.

You don't control the combat, you just tell you character to start a battle, then stare at the screen. It takes like 4 hours to gain 1 level and many more to complete one quest.

Sure the graphics look nice, but what are fancy graphics if the core gameplay is fundamentally flawed.

Also it takes FOREVER to get anywhere in this thing. Prepare to spend 10 minutes just running across town to buy or sell all the useless garbage you collect from enemies. Speaking of items, there is a limit to how many you can carry. Just one more non-Final Fantasy aspect of this game. This means you'll be making that long distance walk more often than you care to.

Back on the subject of graphics, while everything does look nice (assuming you have a powerful graphics card), it's rather bland in design. You'll come across a thousand shades of brown. Everything that isn't brown is green.

One more thing, this is the game that keeps on taking as well. You'll have to keep shelling out each month if you want to play this game. There is no single player mode. Not to mention you'll not be able to play it twenty years down the road when the servers are gone line all your other beloved Final Fantasy games.

Anyway, the final verdict is, don't buy this looking for a Final Fantasy game. I suppose that if you're into games like Everquest you may like this.

I Played in the Beta in this game and Its a complete amazement. It beats Asherons Call (anouther Major RPG online) and Everquest (anouther Major RPG online). If you like playing Final Fantasy games on consols this might not be something you like. This is a MMORPG (Massive multiplayer online role playing game) its name says alot its not something u can beat becuase its almost never ending. You can say you made the lvl cap but unless u cap every skill, ability and character and waited and played it till the very end you cannot say u beat it. (goodluck hehe) But I Have played Asherons call and Everquest both were great games and this one was great as well and will more than likly be better in the future. Hope this review helps for all the new people trying to start on MMORPG just remeber it takes time so dont give up fast! :D
