LAN = 6 players

Just to let you know, the LAN game supports up to six players, not four.

Fun for about 5 minutes

The game is basically just no fun. You do these scenarios and then the computer gives you more scenarios to choose from. (similiar to RollerCoaster Tycoon, but that game was great) I bought it because I liked Monopoly and SimCity, however the game was not like either one. The buildings all look similiar, so it is not exactly eye catching. Plus, there is no way to play a game against the computer, unless you playing a scenario. There is no way to play the game that can be played over the internet, with the computer. The only reason I gave this game two stars is because of the internet play, which really isn't too bad. Any way, try to play the game first before paying... for one.

This could have been a great game - with the right attitude.

It's an OK game. Not a great game, but OK. If you find it dirt cheap, it's worth the buy. $4.97 sounds about right (marked down from $49.95! What a bargain! lol).

This *could* have been a great game, but it appears to have been written by people who weren't happy writing it, and thought little of their customers during the process.

What paultry efforts they did put forth were primarily for their financial benefit. It seems as though they thought surfing the "Monopoly" wave would reap oceans of money automatically. I guess they found out that sometimes you crash. *wink*

From a customer POV:
If one does not have the proper graphics settings upon install, the game hangs on this big, black and white, SHOUTING IN ALL CAPS splash page about "YOU BETTER READ THOSE TERMS TO WHICH YOU AGREED WHILE YOU WAIT HERE NOT YET REALIZING YOU'RE HUNG DUE TO CONFIGURATION ISSUES" (paraphrased, of course). Even when you fix it, you still have to look at that page every time you start the game - It's a load-screen. *shakes head* What a slap in the face to a customer offering their hard-earned $49.95 MSRP.

On Playability: You'll learn to beat the AI in 20 plays or less. I'm being generous.

On ideals: Monopoly is a "multiplayer" game. That's why they give you so many little game pieces in the box. Frankly, the board game is better in myriad ways.

If all of the humans on MT aren't in the same local network - each with their own copy of the game - and want to play on the net, they have to pay even MORE money to **subscribe** to GameSpy. Sorry, but it's just not good enough to fork over the credit card number or buy multiple copies at $49.95. For 5 bucks I might buy another one, but it's definitely not worth a Gamespy subscription. Too bad. They could have done so much better.

This game would have done far better if they had just included 2 cds in the case so customers could play multiplayer across a lan with a family member. But like I said, they weren't about "customers".

All in all:
If you're expecting Monopoly, a great Tycoon game, or to reasonably play multiplayer, you'll be greatly disappointed at any price.

If you have a few minutes to an hour to kill, and would like to play an easy Monopoly-type game in stand alone, and can buy this game dirt cheap, then you'll like it.

If you can buy it dirt cheap, have a LAN at your home/office/dorm, and purchase multiple copies then maybe you'll like it even better.*

*I haven't actually bought a 2nd copy and tried tried a LAN. If you do, please post here on how it went. I've only checked out the Gamespy option, and declined.

OK...but monotonous

If you like Monopoly and SimCity, then this is their love child. Monopoly Tycoon combines some of the features of both to create a new game. Monopoly's property names, utilites, rent payments, and even Chance Cards make it in to the game, while SimCity's building and city planning also are factors.

All in all a good game, but after a while, you are just doing the same things over and over again to win. Can get boring, but still a good game.

I guess it's not TOO bad...

Well, my 15 year old son was the recipient of this item. He played it alot when he first got it, but his interest in it waned in a short time.

Fun and captivating, but short lived.

I am a fan of most Monopoly games, and had played this originally thru the Real Player Real Arcade player. I found it here in a combo pack with Zoo Tycoon and because of the low price figured it was worth it. I really enjoy the gameplay as it's fast paced and simple, and the competitive aspects are good, too. I like the progression of music, cars, and buildings you can create as time progresses, but do wish there were more options, still. The only bad thing to say is that the game is a bit short if you play pretty heavy. After finishing, you can of course go back and play on higher difficulty levels and play freeform games to get some more play out of it. All in all, totally worth the buy, and a great way to spend a lazy, rainy day.

This is the best game I have ever played! It is definitely worth every cent! It is very addicting, so be careful! So fun. The ONLY con is that it not as much like the game Monopoly as I expected. I really liked the fact that it was not hard to build the buildings like THE SIMS. It also has good music.

A lot of fun!

Great game! Very addicting. The AI is especially well done; be prepared for a real challenge. The multiplayer feature using Gamespy works well and lag is usually not a problem. A+
