I wasted my money so you don't have to

This game freezes up a lot right at start-up and even when it doesn't it takes a long time to load. You aren't able to do + + , you have to do it unsafe and I fear that this had made my computer unstable.
As if that in itself isn't a big enough nuisance, its compounded ten-fold when you are trying to attract people online for a match. By the time you reboot 5 times trying to get the game to start and your oppontents do the same, you can pretty much gaurentee that an online match rarely transpires.
As for the game play itself, its just no fun. At least in monopoly when you have your eye on some property its left up to chance with a role of the dice. On this game its all up to whomever types the fastest with the fastest internet connection. If you stop to devise a strategy, someone else hogs all the good property. This game has only one strategy: all you have to do is gobble up all the cheap real estate with one each of every business before anybody else has a chance and then monitor them to make sure you are always undercutting your opponents. You will always win because they will be stuck paying higher rent.
Finally, I was drawn towards purchasing this game because the box said you can decide how your businesses will look. Not hardly! All you get to do is choose between 20 different colors of brick shades!

Good but not Great

Infogrames' Monopoly Tycoon is a decent variation on the classic board game, but I couldn't really get into this as a "strategy" game because very few of the games go longer than 10 full turns. The computer logic is very fuzzy, I can win 70% of the scenarios by doing the same thing game after game. The computer makes some decisions that you have to question, like selling products out so that all their stores churn no profit?? And of course, you want to buy a land lease, every computer opponent decides they want it too and they want it at any price. (assume you are buying St. James place and you don't own Tenn. or New York). Now if the computer wants something (Say Atlantic and they have Marvin Gardens, but not Ventnor) no one cares and unless you bid the price up, no one else and they get sweet deals. My favorite thing to do is own a Railroad, then try and buy another with 5 other computer players... holy cow. I watched them bid the B&O Railroad up to $2500, (you will only make $1000 over the 5 turns with B&O under your control)

For the most part it's a fun game, not worth the $39.99 list price though.

THIS GAME IS GREAT! MORE FUN THE REGULAR MONOPOLY, MORE EXCITING THEN THE SIMS GAMES.NO TROUBLE WITH INSTALLING IT, OR PLAYING IT NO CRASHES. I DO NOT HAVE 64 RAM LIKE THEY ASK FOR, BUT NO PROBLEM PLAYING IT. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY.

Not souped up Monopoly, Messed up Monopoly

I am a computer game enthusist, esspecially simulation game. I like Roller Coaster Tycoon, Sim City, The Sims, etc. And esspecially the older Transport Tycoon. And when I heard about this game it sounded awesome! A sim with a monopoly twist, or if you like, the other way around. I love games where I own my own business. So I got this game.

So I booted it up and started the tutorial. The game had decent graphics but it was jerky. My computer's not top of the line but it goes way beond all system requirements. The tutorial was well done. It made the game seem better than it really was. So I then started my own game and I understood the game but I had a question. Why do they have the nerve to call it monopoly tycoon when it barely relates to Monopoly. The only thing that does is the fact that city blocks are named and colored the same as the origonal Monopoly game. But other than that, it was completely different.

The game was still okay though. But after a total of 5 or 6 hours the game gets extremly boring because your just constantly doing the same thing over and over again. It just doesn't have enough customability and options.

Pros: A good challange, Good Tutorial, Fun for a little while

Cons: Gets boring fast, very repetative, less than average quality graphics, jerky even on fast systems, barely relates to Monopoly

Final Verdict: Over priced, messed up sim that says monopoly on it. Get Capitalism 2 instead for half the price.

Riches to Rags

This game can quickly catch you, and it appears fun in the beginning. But after a while, once you have beaten the simple scenario mode and you have played multiplayer a few times, the game starts to become really repetitive and boring. The concept is always the same throught the entire game, and nothing seems to change. I wouldn't suggest getting it...after 2 weeks of playing it, you will probably get bored of it and put it down.

Good game if you are on a budget

Overall the game is decent. It's one of those games that you can pop in the machine and play for a half hour on any given day. For that reason it makes a good game when you need a break from the truly addictive games, it also gives the game a long shelf-life. The grpahics and sounds are fair at best. As other reviews have mentioned, every scenario is the same city; however, they do change what has already been built at the beginning of the scenario. For example, if you have previously succeeded by owning Park Place and Boardwalk and building them up, the next scenario might have Park Place and Boardwalk already built up by the city. This forces you to change your overall strategy. On the later and longer scenarios there are more and more buildings being constructed but the population remains pretty stagnet. Your computer components don't ever change the way they think which you may or may not like. If the price is right, go ahead and buy.

Bought this game for my teenage daughters last Christmas ('02) and none of us have played it very often. Not at all like the board game, it's a bit confusing and hard to play. I suppose we need to take the time to read all of the directions -- I've tried but they haven't helped much. Consider Roller Coaster Tycoon instead.

Uhhhhh... whatever

This game is so stupid, it's sooooo little kiddish and a message to all game companies and gamers: "The stupid animation such as the unique mouse and junk has to stop, grow up" (Roller Coaster Tycoon excluded, it rocks and it's not like that!!) so don't get this, it will turn your brain into mush and you will be walkin around like an idiot.

I would give this a 0 star, but it only goes down to 1 so there!
