If money and power is your thing, this is a game for you.

I think this game is great to teach a lesson in business and wealth creation. A lot of the principles apply in real life. However, there is a formula for success, which makes the game boring after you figured it out. There is a good selection of challenges that you can play. I do wish there is an option where I can design my own challenge. Computer players are not too competitive, even at the "advance" level. Great graphic, good tutorial. Overall, great game if you are into money and business.

fun at first but...

When I got this game it was fun. But, after you finish the first level of game scenes it can get pretty boring. I found myself fast fowarding frequently. It's not very replayable. Maybe if they would come out with some additional game levels then you could expand but right now once you've got it you've got it.

Monopoly Tycoon shows a lot of promise

Though I was disappointed with Monopoly Tycoon when I first started playing it, I believe it has real potential to be a game that continues to grow better and better. My frustration with the game was built around the fact that 1) it is scenario based, which reduces interest in the overall game, IMHO, 2) it is not turn-based, and the computer characters are free to develop their properties and strategies while the human player is trying to read all of the available menus, and 3) it is difficult to take advantage of the simulation/strategy techniques in a timed non-turned based setting. However, the game was saved for me when I logged in to the MGON forum on the game and discovered that a fan has already developed a "sandbox" scenario. This saved the game for me. Also, on the Monopoly Tycoon web site they have already announced a patch for the game, so this game is going to improve with time.

Should of Been 4 Stars

As a veteran of economic strategy games like Capitalism, I was excited to get my hands on Monoply Tycoon after reading all the previews. For the most part I am happy with the gameplay. For those familiar with the old video game versions that were basically recreations of the board game with flashy graphics, will be surprised of the nice makeover that has been given. Instead of a turn based it's now real-time where you are no longer rolling the dice. The game board has been transformed into a tiny metropolis with the blocks named after all the original properties. The goal is to become the next Bill Gates, controlling not only the most properties but business as well. On each block you have the ability to build and manage a large amount of businesses from butcher shops to bars. You will need to survey the city to find the needs of the people that are walking around to see what's needed to be built. Deciding your location is important as well, making sure you are not miles from apartment buildings and subways. You will also need to decide the quality of your merchandise as well as price and the amount of it you want to stock. (Unsold stock must be written off at the end of everyday, so making sure you purchase only what you need is important.) Besides businesses, you can also own apartment buildings for people to live in. If you purchase any of the utilities you will obtain the fees each business pays to that particular utility (example: Water Works gets the water bill paid).

Overall the game has been completely redone with the only carryovers from the board game being the names of the streets, auction bidding for properties and random chance cards that you receive that may or may not help you build up your empire. The AI is somewhat difficult, with the only drawback being the computers unawareness to cut its prices when you cut yours. There for it's somewhat easy to steal their business. However one business is not going to allow you to win so there is only so many instances where that will work.

Finally the reason for only three stars instead of four, is the inability to save the game in skirmish mode against the computer. For people like me who get bored of scenarios and just like to take on multiple computer opponents will be disappointed to find out that you can't save the game to come back later. You'll have to finish your game at that sitting. However, I have seen a lot of grumbling about this on the companies message boards so I am sure a patch is in the works!

A nice twist to Monopoly

Great game...im a fanatic of the tycoon computer games...i find them to be very entertaining and they are a great way to pass the time....and real fast!!!....

Monopoly Tycoon is a good game...you can go for bronze, silver, and gold trophies for each scenario...

It has a very good tutorial within the game...it takes you through all of the features and you're ready to go once you go through the whole tutorial...

The first couple of scenarios are very short, but they serve to take you through the first steps so that you can get the hang of it...

Later on you play against up to 4 players, and it becomes harder but more exciting...the year doesnt end either...i had to go up to the year 2085 to win one time...so its great...the music is good too...

You get to create the store you want, set it at the price you want, build apartments, hotels, etc. Every couple of years more stores become unlocked and available for you to build...

An overall good game!

It wasn't what I expected.

I had just recieved the game on Friday and I was not inpressed at all. The whole game is not at all like the board game. It's too complicated to play with and there should be a little bit more player construction in the game. Monopoly Tycoon is nothing like the Roller Coaster Tycoon game, with that we were able to design all of our attractions with that game. This game is not at all a Tycoon game. Sorry, but this game just doesn't cut for me....

Monopoly Tycoon is a misleading title

The game works like this: You are given ever increasingly difficult goals (eg. make x amount of dollars by the end of three years) and you build up your ability level. Sort of. It is more of a mission-driven game than a classic tycoon game, which is why I think the title is misleading.

So my critique is: It is not really a tycoon / simulation game at all. You do not get to keep the properties you build up, though you do get to pick the colors, style, and quality of the buildings - which is a little pointless given that you lose the buildings at the end of the level. The game should be cumulative - the board game certainly is. The game does have good graphics, but I find that they only mask an uncomplicated and boring game. It is really unimaginitive, and doesn't inspire creativity at all. Other tycoon games are a better bet, and I would recommend Railroad Tycoon, Roller Coaster Tycoon, or possibly Maximum Capacity: Hotel Giant, for something truly challenging and engrossing.

Worth a Discount Price

The concept of the game is an interesting spin on the board game-- place businesses in blocks to garner a profit, lease the lots to monopolize a block. The game stays true to the original board game in its buy-out concept, building hotels, become the basic "tycoon". The game does get a little monotonous after a while, what with repeating the same process of building stores and attempting to outdo your opponents with the same maneuvers. The graphics are somewhat grainy as well. But the music is pleasant, and, as long as you don't obsessively labor over it for a week and then drop it, it is a fun game.

A great game and business simulator

I never thought that Monopoly could be applied to a game like this. It is really a business/economic simulator, because you have to take charge of aspects such as cash flow, sales, supply and demand, etc. However, a drawback to it is that it does not allow you to play a regular game--you can only play the scenarios. But it is an excellent game, especially if you want to practice business/economics.

Pretty good - could be better....

This is a very visually stimulating game; however, once you figure out how to win one scenerio - it's not too much of a challenge to win the other scenerios. That doesn't mean that the game is boring - it provided me with hours upon hours of play time. There are so many things to build and buy. It also provides younger people with a simplistic but good foundation for how the business world operates. If you could set up a multi-player game against "real" people - you could really test your skills. The other downside is that once you win the scenerio - that's it game over. I would prefer to continue play on some of the scenerios - maybe if they have another version - they could incorporate this. But overall - a very good game.
