I've read great things about this game and purchased it. Initial setup went perfectly and I was playing for 5 minutes when the game froze. I didn't think anything of it and restarted the game. Again after playing for 5 minutes, it froze. After a few more times, I uninstalled the game and reinstall to see if that would change. It didn't it kept freezing after 5 minutes or so. I closed every application as recommended on Infogrames website and it still crashes.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this? I'm running on 1GHZ with 512mb ram, 64meg video card and good sound card so it meets more than the recommended system requirements.
It's fustrating as I can't seem to find any help.
If anyone knows the answer...please help.

I give this game 1 star for one very simple reason-in their "infinite wisdom", the -wonderful- people at Firaxis decided not to include the Cheat Console in this game! The Scenario Editor's no help either! So if you're like me and you enjoyed being able to cheat in the game and change things around with ease, think twice before you buy this one!
Civ, Civ2, SMAC... and now CIV!!!

sigh... already wrote one of these for the limited edition. to put it simply:
turn based, resource management, build/conquer/discover, Sid Meyer: IF you don't know who he is.... GET THIS GAME. you will not regret it, but i digress, it is simply the best single game series EVER. even if your not into turn based, you will be into this game. now... who wanted the OIL? I have a couple of barrels going for that neet SDI thingy you got there.
=)
Very fun, but read the end of this review.

It's tremendous fun being a king. Now with improved trade, superb graphics and mind-bending strategy it's very cool! You can rewrite history with about 12 civilizations from the history books. Talk to major world leaders like Abe Lincoln, Joan of Arc, and Bismark. However there are many flaws too. If you retire or have a bad score, (It's almost impossible to get a good one) you see your picture with brusies and band-aids all over you. And they call you pathetic or even worthless. And if you want to be a world power, you have to look like a world power. For example if you want to be American, you have to look like Abe Lincoln. Kids would hate it. Bored adults and teens would not find it as offensive as younger kids. Overall, I think it's stupid!

I played this game so much that I got tendonitis in my shoulder (my mouse arm). Unlike other simulation type games this one is a battle to take over the world. And if you're similar to Pinky and the Brain you'll understand what a joy that can be!
How can you hate this?

Anyone who didn't like this had there head to far up there a** to realize that they were missing out. I can't stand all the other reviews ripping the game. This is just telling all those 40 year old men living in their mom's basment that this game is not meant to be played by rejects who have speant more time in their lives in fornt of the computer then outside. It is meant to be played by active teenagers like me who need a game to play to take a break on. I usually don't write reviews, but I couldn't stand all those people hating the game. So, to all geeks who hate this game, keep your biased moronic views to yourself we don't want to hear them. If you got a problem with this email me!
This is 10 years behind the times

I just purchased this game and I am very dissipointed. I am a avid Age of Empires player in all three versions of AOE and the Civ 3 AI leaves much to be desired. With AOE you don't have to take turns and the AI is advanced to where all other players are moving at the same time you are. Civ 3 is like going back to a computer chess game. 700 megs of disk space?? That is nuts. They need to get some tech education and then write a new game. Don't buy this. Get AOE instead.
What is the point?

How can anyone play this game? Primitive graphics, tedious gameplay, and no real point to it at all. It is just automated checkers. Maybe you could get into this if you are 92 years old and a shut in. In a word...BORING.
This is a Problem.

I bought this game, and even though it's not expensive, I'm still really ticked because I popped it into my cd/dvd drive and nothing ever happened. I tried everything, tried forcing it to autorun, tons of stuff. I looked on the internet at other people's reviews and it seems that a lot of people have the same problem. This game will not install!! Some cd's work, some don't, you're basically playing roulette with which one you get in the pack. It's not worth the hassle.
This promises to be a good one...

Civilization is my all-time favorite strategy game and it is very addictive. The game looks complicated at first, but once you get into it, you won't want to stop.
Sure, your main objective is to become the sole civilization and rule the world! But there's much more that that! You must make your empire stronger by building cities, making alliances with other civilizations and of course crushing the weak civilizations.
My favorite part of the game is the ability to discover new building/units by developing research. You can also build Wonders of the World which adds bonuses to your city, civilization, or even the whole world!
Sid Meier is a very good programmer and this promises to be the best civilization (and possibly the best strategy) game ever made for a PC.
