GREAT GAME!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 12 / 65

I have seen the game's previews, and it is absolutely outstanding. It might have its flaws as all games do, but, in general, it is superb. The only problem with this release is that there is no Macintosh version; it will be great to have a Macintosh version as well; and even better if it would be compatible with the Windows version.

Much new features!!

Where Civ II is merely an add on of new improvements, units and graphical improvements to Civ I, Civ III will be that and a lot of new things.

Civ III goes into areas that were not explored by its predecessors, mainly Civ II.

In Civ III, economic and diplomacy will play a much more significant roles. In fact, economic, warfare and diplomacy will be interwined. Changes in one will affect the other.

For example, ivory, a resources that is required to keep the civilians happy, will be indispensible to the success of any Civ III players. If the Civ III players do not have access to ivories, they will have to explore and colonize land that do have ivory, or negotiate trade treaties to obtain ivories. If colonization and trade treaties fails, then players can always opt for war.

This feature will add a new dimension to the gameplay. Players will no longer be colonizing land randomly. They will have to give a careful consideration to whether or not it is good to build a city here to obtain resources.

Diplomacy will also be greatly improved. Players will no longer be negotiating the same items. For example, players in Civ III can negotiate maps for technologies, money for maps, and so on. Players can also request a civilliation to stop exporting certain resources imperative to creation of certain armies to another civilization so that that civilization will not be able to build armies.

There will be empire boarder and cultural points. The higher the culture rating that your civilization is, the more ilkely that a small cities of rival civilization may be assimilated into your empire, thus becoming a part of your territory.

There are many many more new features that will make this game a much more of an empire building game than just a war game. It requires more tactical considerations in the areas of economic, diplomacy and war. no longer is this game just about war. It is aslo about acquisition of resources and development of economy. It is a major step in redirecting the focus of empire building games.

Civilization3, a game?

As you'll probably know, civilization continues and here's the newest version of the game known as civ3. Now don't get too excited about this game, as more often, you never know how it will end up as. I know, i know, it's enjoyable but just like civ1 and 2 were, i don't really think civ3 will make any difference. Gameplay and graphics changed a little bit from civilization 1 to 2. But overall, everything is the same. Whoever made this game is a person who likes to cheat people into buying this game and wasting their money on some garbage. I'd suggest buyers think more often about the sims and simcity 3000 and if they have these games, they should be thankful to themselves. Thank you.

civilization is a great game, chose which past ruler you would like to be and play until you fall asleep. You can be many past empires including he carthaginians, the egyptions, the aztecs and many more. You can take over the world,(my personal preferance),make peace with everyone or make peace with some tribes and to work together to destroy someone, the ... for instance. chose your preference, learn tecnologies slowly or cheat and reveal the map, build things like nuclear missiles and tanks,or just destroy a civilization...

Regular VS collectors ed.

it seems that civilization3 will be out in the middle of Oct. but another version of it - a collector's edtion is due for release 15 days earlier... Well, that's what got me pondering, what exactly is this "collectors"? Since waiting for a game an exciting game to come out is incrediblity annoying, i thought i'd pick the verison due to release first. Besides, I've always been a Sid fan and most of all a Civ fan ;), so maybe my dedication will let me buy the game in collectors. However, when I found out that the first release was actually more of a market stratgy to make more money for basicly nothing, i had to give it another thought... You see, the game itself was actually decleared for release on the 15th - the original civ3, nothing fancy, they said it would be out on the 15th. Then suddenly appears another release date - the 1st of Oct - in the form of a collector's verison, which contains a big hand book for the game (although I can't imagine how much bigger it will be compared to the regular), and a video of "behind the making of Civ3"... So basicly they are advertising the 15 days release date to the Civ fanatics and charging them 20 bucks more just to be able to play early...

Awesome, unless you never played Civ 2

Civilization II is like the best strategy game ever made--IF you get into it. I got into it a lot and I still play it from time to time. If you've played Alpha Centauri it's a lot like that, except it's earth-bound, and historically accurate. It sounds dumb, but playing Civ 2 is a reason I did well in social studies class--you remember the historical figures, geography, major events in history.

BUT! This game probably won't be exciting to those of you who are new to the game. It's not like you jump right in and it's all exciting--it will be exciting when you are at war and you actually know what you're doing (which units are best for what situations, how to target the right cities, etc). But don't think you'll get into the game on the first day, that probably won't happen--friends have asked me what's wrong with me playing this game that looks so dull where all you do is move pieces like a board game. But once you're into all the units, technologies, opponents, etc, this is the most addictive game around!

This promises to be a good one...

Civilization is my all-time favorite strategy game and it is very addictive. The game looks complicated at first, but once you get into it, you won't want to stop.

Sure, your main objective is to become the sole civilization and rule the world! But there's much more that that! You must make your empire stronger by building cities, making alliances with other civilizations and of course crushing the weak civilizations.

My favorite part of the game is the ability to discover new building/units by developing research. You can also build Wonders of the World which adds bonuses to your city, civilization, or even the whole world!

Sid Meier is a very good programmer and this promises to be the best civilization (and possibly the best strategy) game ever made for a PC.

How about this. None of us have played the game yet, but we can all rate how much fun it is in stars. What a great deal.

Hopefully best game ever!

Civ3 seems to be expanding the possibilities of previous Civ games. Diplomacy and trade will be in bigger role, characteristics of different races will be great new addition to the strategy. Hopefully it will support multiplaying in many ways, since the challenge against human is always more thrilling.

I just hope that the conquerroring strategy is not forgotten. Since in previous true Civ game(Civ2) there was lack of possibility to destroy opponents in the mid round. Since you had to develop Automobile and then you could try to attack your opponents. I enjoyed civ1 more just because of that.. I have always enjoyed my game most in the historical era.

I am drooling for this game, hopefully you will be also. BTW Civ1 is still the best game ever made. (still playing it with my old pc (286), Freeciv has been quite good choise also and of course Civ2)

Hopefully the best game ever!

Hopefully it will support multiplaying in many ways, since the challenge against human is always more thrilling. Now when resources must be retained before you could build some unit. For example to build a legion unit you need iron. Perfect! I love the feature that there is no more caravan unit. Since they were quite boring to use (lot of moving). The fact that the units are supported by the whole civilization no more one city gives quite different view to this game. How it will affect my gameplay will be seen.

And for those Mac fans: There is discussion about importing this game to Mac. Somehow I believe it will happen, since I bet this game is the most hoped game in many years. Easy to learn but hard to master.
