well, it's better than most games out there, though europa universalis II is surging forward. could win. sid made some interesting adjustments as far as abilities specific to different cultures (races, tribes ...whatever,) but i think blew the game with his "culture points" sids vision of "how life should be" screws up gameplay with "if a team has enough old libraries and marketplaces, then an army of tanks can't hold them..."

Civilization 3 used price is higher than in the stores new

For the most part this game is boring as is a couple other simular games.i.e.Pharaoh/etc. I guess I like creating things that I have control over and therefore Roller Coaster Tycoon has been something I have throughly enjoyed. For interaction I think Black and White is great/creative.

Could be fun if it did not crash so often

I really hate it when games do this. I played earlier version of Civilization years ago and it was more stable.

I find this game similar to Age of Empires. Civilization 3 includes less violence and I find it very entertaining. I recommend this game because you have to think. Civilization isn't like some racing game where all you do is stear. In Civilization you make strategeis. 5 stars.

Good Job.

My review is simple. I want to thank Infrogames for 2 things.

1. Thanks for taking out all the nonsense. Who acutally went to the high council anyhow... they brought noting to the table and looked dumb doing it. The wonder movies were a distraction as well.

2. Thank you for not leaving all the loopholes in the game. I hate winning a game every time. The AI doesn't get tricked because it is AI... you actually have to outsmart it. What a concept. This is a good game, like a live action multi-player chess game.

3. The only things you could fix in a patch would be the part where tanks can still be beaten by pikemen. That bugged a little - but it only CivIII one of its five stars.

If liked Civ 2 you'll love this new addition although there haven't been many changes from the orginal the ones that have make the game well worth buying.

Too slow

I like this game. But, it's just the same Civilization, just with better graphics. I got bored with it very quickly. Probably because I've already played it. Great concept, they just need to find a way to make turns go faster. I would play my turn, then go do dishes or something while the computer took it's turn. That's how long it could last.

A worthy successor.

OK - so there are things I don't like about it. Where are the wonder movies? Why have my favorite wonders (Leonardo's workshop and Darwin's Voyage) become less powerful? What is up with the "land grab" AI by the CPU at the beginning of the game? Why is is so difficult?:) All of these things I have gotten used to now and I love the game - wasting countless hours on it. If you loved CivII you will like this once you aquire the taste. The new cultural influence features are great. The diplomacy is much improved as is trade. Combat is basically unchanged and works well most of the time (with the occational "spearman defeats tank" problem). Don't worry Civ and SMAC fans - you will like it.

Brilliant, Excellent, Civilization gets Even better

Excellent improvement upon the already marvelous game Civilization. A must have for any strategy fan.

Add a few good ideas, loose a million

... Civ 3 adds a few cool ideas and better graphics. It looses all semblence of working, and crashes like an airplane without wings. It removes the civolpedia and discriptions of the technologies. It ruins the game with "enchancements" like capturing catapaults. The scenario system pales in comparison with civ 2. And the ...background music... . Buy civ 2...
