First of all, I'd like to point that the reviewers who can't get the game to work should not be commenting on this top class game. Where is the sense on giving a game 1 star when they haven't actually played it!!!! Ive had this game for 2 weeks now and I have hardly stopped playing it. The are so many cool touches and the creature is an absolutely remarkable feature that make this game really stand from all the other God games. I just want to keep it short and say that B and W is tops and you really need to play it to see what you are missing.
I normally don't write reviews but....

I normally don't write reviews for games. I like to keep my comments limited to word of mouth. But this game has forced me to change all that. I ordered the game last week from Amazon and was both excited and scared. I owned and kind of hated Populous, and downright despised Dungeon Keeper (the interface held it way back). I heard the concept of the game three years ago and watched from afar. It seemed like the game was too ambitious to please a skeptic like myself. Now after playing this game for 5 days nonstop (except for studying for Biochemistry) all I can say is that the game is by far one of the best games ever made. The game not only creates a world, but it's AI and atmosphere create one of the best experiences ever in gaming history. I state again that this is far more than a game...it is an experience. Buy this game today!!!!! I guarantee you will not be disappointed!!!
Both an RPG and a SIM

This game combines both an RPG and a sim game. You play the role of a god among other gods that rule several islands. You have a creature as a compantion to do some of your work and you have to train it. You build villages and raise food and all sorts of god-like things. You can cast spells and battle other god's creatures. The game appealed to me when I first paid for it (I paid about [money]). I'm so sorry that I ever did. The game is playable for about the first couple of hours. After hours of having your creature disobey you and having to deal with the other evil gods it gets boring. The game has levels and at one point it refused to save. (The game has many glitches) and eventualy I lost much onformation. The one good thing about this game is that you can be an evil god and just kill people left and right if you wish. Don't pay full price for this thing if you are considering to purchase it. Just find a cheap used version. You'll get the same mundane god-like powers but not have to pay [money].
Awesome simulation....

If you like simulations, this game is the best I've encountered so far. Combining nice graphics with great AI, fun surroundings, cool creatures, a fantastic plot, and groovy Easter-Eggs, this game deserves all 5 stars.
I can't wait to get Black & White II when it comes out!!!
Super fun, with a caveat

I highly recommend this title if AND ONLY IF you do not use Win XP. I got to play it on my old desktop with Win ME and it was great; however, it simply won't work on most XP systems. On this website, it clearly states that the game isn't supported by XP, but one doesn't always think of these things when you are at the local gaming/electronics store. As I learned after wasting $20...
Lots of potential cram packed in a mediocre, ultimately disappointing product

I have a love/hate relationship with this game. Black And White had so much potential and it p*sses me off to see it squandered. The creature AI is wonderful and I spent MANY hours training my creature, watching it interact with its environment, grow, destroy stuff, etc. But as a "strategy game" this title simply fails on a number of issues. In lieu of the originally scheduled rant documenting my fall from Black and White loving grace I am going to summarizes my thoughts on this title.
Point 1: Interaction with the creature IS THE GAME, and the game designers dropped the ball. Instead of involving the creature in a number of meaningful quests, they regurgitated a bunch of trite puzzles like the Tower of Hanoi and bog the player down with micromanaging an extremely dull "strategy game" -- envision playing StarCraft WITHOUT military units, where everyone plays as the Zerg and you win by having the biggest creep... only it is much worse than that! Honestly, even if the strategy portion of the game were more interesting I am not sure if this could be reconciled with creature interaction so that both are possible. I mean, how do you find time to train and play with your creature when you have a thousand psychotic villagers blaspheming your name and asking you for permission to build houses and breed while an angry enemy god throws fireballs at you! It will be interesting to see if Black and White 2 can solve some of these issues.
Point 2: The interface is innovative and also needlessly complicated. Spell and Leash Gestures are particularly questionable, especially when combined with the strange navigational interface (a God should not have to move by pulling itself on the ground with its hands for Christ's Sake).
Point 3: The plot is COMPLETELY linear. So much so that, even when it is possible to deviate from "the path", the program just ignores your actions until it gets what it expects. For instance, in lands 3 and 5 I managed to destroy the enemy's temple before taking all of the villages, and the game didn't respond at all until I went back and captured the villages.
Despite my complaints I would recommend buying this game (especially since it is so cheap now), but I also STRONGLY recommend stopping on land 3 and just enjoying yourself with your creature. Having won the game I can tell you that you are not missing anything in the ending (which quite frankly sucks along with most of the plotline preceding it), and level 4 and 5 will have you pulling your hair out. For those who choose not to heed this warning... god help you. :)
Crah and Burn

Crash and Burn should have been the name of this gaming attempt. I recently acquired B&W/B&W Creature Isle and would ship them back to EA if the shipping didn't cost more than both games combined. What were they thinking?? I haven't been able to play more than 15 minutes without my system crashing. I've tried the patches, my drivers are up to date and all other games play without incident. There's only one file/solution left to try with these two games and that's using my stand-by file: file 13 aka as "the trash recepticle". Good luck to those who are able to play this one, for I am returning to a tried and true favorite: Civilization III. Good luck and good gaming!!
Not as fun as they say

I bought this game because of the insane reviews it got from gaming sites like ign.com, but after playing, i dont think its really THAT fun.
the game is a very creative concept, has great controls, great interface, great music. But as other reviews have pointed out, theres too much micro management for my taste. For example, if one of my villages is running low on people, i would have to drag people from other villages over one by one, stuff like that.
Dont let this discourage you. it is still a good game (i give it 4 stars), but i just dont think its as good as ign.com says it is. Personally i like simcity better.
If you want to babysit your game 24 hrs a day choose this!

A vast majority of people who write to Black and White's official website with suggestions have found that they are misinformed by the media and otherwise about the quality of this game. These people are not looking for improvements but fixes for problems that rarely come up in such well made video games as this, during saving and "out of the blue" the program crashes, which may freeze your system all-together. There are no work arounds that operate constantly and they failed to make two expected patch (game fix) dates so far to rectify the issue. This game can be described in many positive colorful ways, all of which is true, but there are serious issues within that somehow failed to surface. This game's important functions like saving your work (work which can be agonizing to some) is less than operational, if at all, and, in most cases reported, will crash your system. The final product has fallen short from the beginning, I would put no trust in this product's proposed functionality as of now. I must although say that there will be a patch sooner than later, but do to the information and the lack there of, I regret I cannot say when without misleading you.
after a week or 2 its boring
