This game looked cool. This game had fairly good reviews. But...
I hated having to micromanage every little detail. I found the controls confusing and buggy- I was unable to attach my creature's leash to anything at all, for example. The tutorial was lacking in much basic information, and I couldn't find where to learn this stuff. I was thrown into a game with my villagers whining about needing food, housing, mercy (whatever!) etc, and I didn't know how to help the little jerks. Plus, the biggest drawback was how you navigate around the world. I guess I have a bad sense of direction, because I couldn't find anything. And all the swooping and twirling gave me motion sickness- honestly! I tried sitting down to read after playing, and almost got sick!
Try something else.

I purchased Black and White on the advice of a friend and was told about the fun aspects of training a pet. After playing for several hours I can honestly say I was underwhelmed.
While the game's graphics were good, and I had fun for about an hour playing around with my pet and the world, there was little to keep my interest. I quickly moved onto other games and forget that I had purchased Black and White. For me, there was little substance and little to get me "hooked".
While I do not deny that there is a market for games like Black and White, I do believe that this market demands more challenging and compelling products.
If you make it past an hour, tasks become tedious, lifeless and dull.

After hours of tweaking, hours with tech support (for both LionHead and my PC manufacuter), purchase of additional components, and months of waiting for a patch, I still cannot play this game.
I hope to someday write a review based on the merits of the game and not the truly deplorable behavior of Electronic Arts.
A lot of work for a little entertainment.

The game has a very interesting concept and the graphics are excellent. However, the UI is very difficult to use and requires a lot of practice to get used to it. Furthermore, from my little bit of playing the game the emphasis seems to be more on developing your creature than anything else. I have to admit having to keep an ever vigilant eye on the creature kind of irritated me and took away from the overall game experience. All and all I was not as impressed with the game play as I was with the concept and quickly grew tired of this game.

Black & White, you'll either love it or hate it, there'll be no grays about it. All the cool graphics only serve to tax your computer and slow down the game. The game is fun for the first couple of levels. But once the novelty wears off, the game becomes aggravating. The game tries to be everything for everyone, but that never works. I could have done without the stupid, impossible-to-control animal god, made worst with the awkward mouse movements. I want to be God, not some pokemon trainer. For a superior god simulation game, get Tropico. The gameplay of Tropican villagers are far more interesting.
This is only half a game...

Don't buy this game--as simple as that. There are bugs galore, and LH/EA have been promising a patch to fix the game for over two months now. Several promised features were "left out" of this version (ie. "We didn't have time to actually finish the game"), but have been promised in future downloads. If the patch is any symbol of what we can expect, these downloads will be available for Christmas 2002.< ... .

Black & White has to be the best, and most addicting, game I have ever bought. The graphics are wonderful, and the story is great. For the game to run as smoothly as it should, you're going to need a pretty fast computer. Unlike other games, it's easy to switch through other windows and do several things at a time. I play this game hours at a time and haven't gotten tired of it yet! :) This game is definitely for dedicated RPG players!

This game is totally different, forget all you have learned in past games, that info isnt going to help. 1) no buttons. Yes, no on screen click with mouse, build house here buttons. the game is CONTROLLED with the mouse. want to cast a spell? wave your mouse in a circle and boom defense spell galore. 2)AI. that would be Artificial Intelligence. It is revolutionary. Let your titan toss some rocks with another while you leave the computer and he may give a hot one to the others hands. not taught by you. 3)it is The best game of all-time, all reviews have been the highest. this game is a god in itself.

This game is the worst piece of [junk] i have ever bought, not only does it take around a week to each level, you can't even cast miracles from towns that you convert!!! this was the most boring game I have ever played! sure its fun... until the second level where you start having to micromanage your towns which takes time away from your creature, then you teach your creature which in turn takes away from micromanaging your damn towns. you're probably saying to yourself "oh, but so many people have written good things about it" well im guessing that many of them haven't played past the intro.

This game has many serious flaws which ultimately make it unplayable. What it comes down to is that the villagers are too stupid to take care of themselves, which makes it impossible to create a self-sustaining village. Therefore you have to spend enourmous amounts of time telling the villagers to do basic things like chop down trees, harvest grain, and reproduce. That's right. They won't reproduce unless you tell them to, which means that you must constantly match boys and girls together to keep the village from dying out. This distracts you from doing fun and interesting things, like training your creature to seek out and destroy the enemy. After 50+ hours playing this game and still feeling like I was getting nowhere, I gave up in frustration.
