Beautiful interface, boring game

This game has one of the most elegant and beautiful interfaces I have ever seen. Perhaps the best the role-playing industry has ever seen. Unfortunately, the game is boring. I can't believe that so much work went into the interface of a game that is so bad.

Just look at a screen shot and pass this game over. It is way overpriced and destined for the bargain bin.

Dungeon Siege is cool!

This game is really great, if you are into rpg's that allow you to build up your character class and skills, like fighters, mages, wizards, and archers. Equip your fighters as you create a male or female character, give them a name and send them on a journey from a humble farmer to a great warrior and goblin slayer!

There are quests to do and you will be notified once a quest is completed. Allow other character to join your party and equip them, and keep those health and mana potions handy!

Best video game I've ever played.

This game is quite simply the best RPG and best video game I've ever played. I thought Eternal Darkness was my favorite game but I'm 3/4th of the way through Dungeon Siege and it has taken the top spot in my list of favorites.

Playing this game is like stepping into another world. It's like being in Middle Earth or having Dungeons and Dragons made real. My only complaint is the interface being a bit clunky when I'm trying to move all 8 characters around in dungeons.

However the graphics are nothing short of spectacular!

The game is long too. I've already put in close to 30 hours worth of exploring and fighting into this game and I'm only 75% of the way through the game.

I've read some reviews where people thought the game was boring after playing it for the first hour. This may be true early in the game when your characters can't do very much. However eventually when you have all kinds of spells available then battles become much more challenging. Many times you need to change from using archers to fighting with melee weapons or switching to spells depending on the enemies you're fighting and the environment. Later on it takes strategy to win battles. At least for me it does because I have a small party of 4 warriors and 4 pack mules.

Once you've cleared an area it's also nice to zoom out, and walk around and just take in the beauty of this cyber world. :)

Very fun game.

almost enough to miss sleep

I originally bought this game because it was the only one that would play on my pre-historic machine and yes, I did for a brief moment become addicted. Anyone thinking of buying this game I would describe it as a soap opera. The content is pleasing enough but just as you are starting to realise there is not much to this experience, a cliff hanger is thrown up to keep your attention chained for that little bit longer. It is very easy to play and the enemies are not to much trouble, it moves very nicely and would probebly make a good introduction, but it is not challenging or thought provoking. My advice, save your money and by a better computer so you can play baulders gate.

It's Great.

I played this game and i would have to say this should be game of the year. It shows scary parts, but aside from that it can be greatly played by a teen.
5 stars, 7 if i could.

This game is good. Although, it doesn't have a lot of replayablity, the game is good for the first play though, although many areas are much too big. This problem tends to slow gameplay as I got extremely tired of playing in the same basic terrian for hours at a time. It took me close to 2 months (though in continues play it would have been about 24 hours) to get to the last section of the game (I still haven't finished it).

great start, wears out its welcome

Many things in this game are done superbly, but I found that they packed in the monsters SO densely that the game got fairly boring fairly quickly - advance a little, kill another pack of monsters, rest, repeat. I'm only about 1/3 of the way through the game and pretty tired of it. If they tweaked that, this would be a classic.

A perfect 10

A perfect 10
The game controls are smooth and responsive. The graphics are great with many outdoor and dungeon areas to explore. The characters grow in their ability to use weapons, armor and magic. The plot is absorbing with numerous side quests. I think Dungeon Siege is a lot of fun and certainly represents the next level of RPG games. A Real Winner!

Tedious

I can't remember playing a game as tedious as this. This game along with Diabolo are often compared to the mid 80s arcade game Gauntlet. I do have recollections of playing Gauntlet in arcades in the 80s. Was Gauntlet as boring as this? I honestly can't remember.

Anyway to sum up the gameplay of Dungeon Siege-

a) Jog along path
b) Enemies appear in front of you and from your side
c) Enemies will attack you if in range
d) You click on enemy to attack them. Your character(s) will automatically fight back if attacked, so there's not much to worry about here.
e) Enemies sometimes drop potions, gold and equipment if killed. Your character can pick these up if he/ she wants to.
f) Repeat process.

It's all very shallow. You can use melee, ranged weapons or spells but the end result tends to be pretty much the same,

Although I can understand that long convoluted plots a la Baldur's Gate *can* get dull, it's the difference in combat that made me play Baldur's gate (and it's spin offs) to the end, rather than just give up in boredom. In Baldur's gate you're often facing much tougher opponents than you, and the fun of the combat is coming up with various combinations of melee. ranged attacks and magic spells to overcome your opponents. There were many different strategies to try. With Dungeon Siege in contrast you're mostly just being swarmed with numerous, weaker opponents. The chances of actually dying are really quite slim considering the abundance of healing potions and other power ups. Combat in Dungeon Siege reminded me more of swatting swarms of pesky mosquitoes than anything.

People often say it looks gorgeous. Well, it's fairly nice, but even some games from 1999 looked somewhat better. There are some nicely done textures and lighting underground especially, but I didn't find it to be amazing graphically.

Unfortunately not evern a soundtrack by the excellent Jeremy Soule makes me want to play Dungeon Siege any further.

To much of a good thing

I understand the developers desire to create an expansive world with lots of magic items to find but in the case of this game it became overkill for me. I seemed to spend half of my time just trying to figure out where I was and where I had already been since the overview map was useless for this task. Another quarter of my time was spent sifting through a hundred inventory items trying to figure out which ones my party members could use and which ones were better than each other. In the end pretty graphics couldn't overcome the dread I felt everytime I got lost or came into town with a filled inventory.
