I bought this game because every web site and gaming magazine rated it extremely well. I played it for 10-15 hours trying to see what the allure was. I just don't get it. It just seems so stupid. Your fighters bang on the baddies while your magic users launch one of the same 3 or 4 spells over and over and over again. I play ALOT of games and this is one of the worst ones I have played.
Unbelieveably pretty, but depressingly repetitive

I picked up a copy of Dungeon Siege a couple of days ago. Based on a grand total of 6 hours of gameplay (what do you want? This ain't The Adrenaline Vault), I submit the following observations:
The Good: This game is pretty, by which, I mean gorgeous. Sunlight streams through dense foliage, forest creatures scamper about, waves lap at beaches. Screw The Nature Channel, this is unbelieveable. Plus, no level load times, which gets to be kind of unnerving after a while. View controls are simple, and the interface generally leaves very little to be desired. Everything works pretty much the way you'd expect. The skill system is nice in that skills develop with use, as opposed to going up at arbitrary "level up" points.
The Bad: The skills are actually kinda limiting. You got your Melee, Ranged, Combat Magic, and Nature magic skills... and that's it. You don't even learn spells, really: you just find scrolls that fit into a spellbook like CDs in a disc changer, and cycle between them. Many items you find in the beginning of the game are totally unusable to you, requiring stats that seem impossibly far away at the outset (stats like Strength, Intelligence, Dexterity, and - oh, wait, that's it - grow with experience like your skills). Example: many items you find require a minimum attribute of 13. Doesn't sound bad, considering you start at 10, but after completing the first chapter, I'd yet to have a character with a score greater than 11.
The Ugly: I've met smarter enemies playing checkers with my cat: their tactics seem pretty much focused on the "pound on you with one or two weapons until you die" school of warfare. After passing the first chapter, the enemies suddenly become signifigantly more difficult: not any smarter, you understand, they just hit you a lot harder.
Verdict: this game is cotton candy. Get it for the sweet graphics, look elsewhere if you're looking for satisfying gameplay.
This is soooo DULL!

I don't care what many of you have to say about "no plot" or "no control" or anything like that. This game was, apparently, desgined for use mostly be newbies. Think about it. There is almost no need for thinking about "should I put one into this, or into that." Depending on what you want your character to use, that is what he/she will become specialized in. How can it become more basic than that? True, the plot IS a little thin, but wasn't Diablo 2 thin? Of course. How many people play[ed] on battle.net every day? There are several occasions where I saw tens or hundreds of thousands of people online playing. Like another writer said, all RPGs require imagination. If you don't use your brain to create your own little imaginary world within the game, the game will be dull. You have to use your imagination to find your true goals and the such. Obviously, people who want real "depth" will be displeased. Just for the sake of knowing I would like to know ten or more games someone thinks has real "depth," and would like them to convince me about it, too. Dungeon Siege is a wonderful game, and any RPG player would love it.
Incredible Let Down..........Save your money.

After months of reading about the upcoming Dungeon Seige in several computer gaming magazines I was really looking forward for it to come out. Supposedly Chris Taylor (Dungeon Seige's developer) was creating the ultimate RPG. It was to be graphicaly stunning and void of the elements that he didn't like in other role playing games. I was somewhat in agreement with him that reading through pages of dialog can get boring in some games, and the graphics did look great in the previews...<...The game has no depth of character or story, and no real tactics involved with battles. Click..click..click and the little people you care nothing about wander around, hacking up enemies in battles that you don't really control. Keep your eyes on everyone in your party in a fight, because one of them may very well be just standing around being pummeled and not doing anything to fight back (even with "attack freely" selected). The pack mule seemed like a good idea, expanding your inventory to bring back more treasure, until you find out that you get paid close to nothing when selling your junk after the long hike back to town. It's easiest to see where you're heading by viewing the party from above in the "mega-map" mode. It was while playing this way that I realized that Dungeon Seige is basically a really bad version of the old arcade game Gauntlet, wrapped in a pretty 3-D shell with a few RPG elements thrown in for good measure. Save yourself some money and wait for a new title from Bioware or Blizzard to come out.

This game owns... Very good graphics, controls, and music. Its like Diablo 2 except 3d and a different way of gaining levels.
Pros: Good Graphics, good controls, music, Create your own dream team, additional worlds avaible after release of games, able to make your own world, fun killing 20 monsters at a time, basic archery magic and sword fighting. Nice EXP gain too.
Cons: The characters lives are not as detailed. Plot is basic too but differs if you play multiplayer. Automatic hitting. Comrades sometimes stand there and do nothing while your getting beat up. Dungeons last 1-2 hours sometimes
Overall: Well I had higher expectations but still one of the best. I suggest if you do not like long games dont get this. Also if you expect a good plotline like diablo or 2 dont get this game. This is just another regular plot.

This game has the right fit between awesome graphics and good gameplay. It avoids a lot of the tedious details that you get in some of the other games, but still gives you the control you want. Like Morrowind, you improve based on what you use. It's not photorealistic, but it's damn beautiful. Pick it up used if you have to, but don't miss it!
Hack'n Slay Role Playing at its best!

If you don't like killing things, this game isn't for you! Otherwise, you got a keeper!
This is one of the most immersive, motivating, and graphically stunning game I have every played. The world is just fantastic. I could spend hours just wandering around looking at stuff. There is hardly any repetitiveness in this game. It is amazing. One of the most amazing features is the smooth, ongoing nature of the game. Never will it pause to reload more graphics. Never will it "cut" over into a new dungeon. It is just one continuous world! Excellent job!
Playing the game means mostly killing monsters. For some reason, it never gets boring though. Last weekend, I sat down at 11am to play for "an hour or so", and finally managed to get away from the computer more than 12 hours later. And not because I was bored! I could have easily kept playing until dusk!
Get this one. You won't be disappointed! (If you like RPG and killing monsters that is).
A very awesome game!

I had seen this game was made by Chris Taylor who made one of my all-time favorite games (Total Annihilation) and had to have it. And I wasn't dissappointed. To me, this was a combo of Diablo and Icewind Dale as it incorporated alot from each game while be different from both. It was also alot easier to play than Icewind Dale.
And there is alot less management in this game. With the click of a button, your inventory is automatically rearranged so you don't have to try to make room for something else. Also, anything that is on the ground lights up so you know where it is to pick it up. Another nice feature is the potions. You only drink what you need and the rest is left in that bottle until you need it. While on your journey, you meet many new people who want to join you until you reach the max limit of 8. And trust me , you need them. Some of the levels and end bosses are very tough. There are plenty of weapons, armor, and spells to be bought here and plenty of monsters and bandits to kill. And this is a very large world. That is what amazed me the most, just how big this world was. And each new dungeon, town, and forest was very different from the next. The graphics are very good, the gameplay is fast, the sounds were excellent, and the challenge was very good. I believe this game had some of the best landscape views of any game I have ever played. And when you are in the woods hearing the wind blow and the bugs making their noises, you almost feel like you are there. It took me a little over 32 hours of actual gameplay time (not counting having reload when I died) to beat the singl player missions.
I recommend this game for RPG fan and for anyone looking for a well put together and thought out game with excellent action.
Completely linear game

There is no doubt this game has a lot of great features. The way it handles inventory, the shopkeepers, and the pack mules are great. The main problems I found with the game was lack of interation with NPCs, and a completely linear storyline. You start at one end the land and march north until you get to the end. This makes for a game with no replay capability. I would skip this one unless it is in the bargain rack.
