This is a good, fun game that does not hog system resources. While it is a couple of years old at this point,it has held up fairly well due to the quality of the story line. Probably not equal to the Diablo series, but definitely a good RPG. Fewer and fewer games of this quality are being brought to market, cherish those that are released.

This is an action cRPG that came out after DIABLO II and just before NEVERWINTER NIGHTS. And it blew both of them out of the water!
Not as deep as NWN, yet the story engaged you enough to make it more than a hack'n'slash. Not as dark as DIABLO II, yet blood fever will take hold of you once in battle. A number of innovative ideas made DUNGEON SIEGE a unique experience: the cinematic perspective, the original characters (who thought up...machine-gun shooting medieval robots!), the fighting-back pack-mule...
At the same time, both the enemies' and your company members' AI is well above par.
Graphically, this is a 4 year game yet it plays much smoother and it has further horizons than most cRPGs today. Even if, to any true cRPG fun, graphics is not everything (otherwise DAWN OF MAGIC would have been considered a great game), DUNGEON SIEGE is found wanting in nothing when it comes to graphics. Not until TITAN QUEST got released could any cRPG hold a candle to DUNGEON SIEGE! Tress and grass move as you pass by, water ripples as you step into it and wakes as you walk through it. Everything worn or wielded appears on the character; whereas, magic spells are not shabby at all.
The game also sports a GREAT CAMERA PLACEMENT (zoom capable and totally customizable) and has one of the BEST SOUNDTRACKS - the theme music will stay with you as the appropriate theme for any epic battles in the future.
Those of you who were (rightfully) disappointed with the truly bad and much shorter DUNGEON SIEGE 2 (I still cannot fathom how they managed to botch that one!), keep in mind that it has only skin-deep similarities to its predecessor. This is the one to buy!
At this price, it is a great deal too - and you will enjoy it more than most latest games!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

This RPG is FUN and very addictive!
The music and environment are so emmersive I get cold when I walk into the Northern towns and ichy when I run through the swamps. I have started to dream in DS, when I actually sleep that is.
The gameplay is accessable you don't need to read a manual to figure it out. There are tons of hidden areas to explore on and off the path--forests, ice caverns, swamps, towns and of coarse dungeons and if you want to stay alive you will have to have a stratigy and develop your melee, archor, nature or combat magic skills. It gets harder as you get stronger.
Im addicted, gotta go!
Cheers
I hate, hate, hate, hate, hated this game

This is is a game from a LONG line of diablo clones. The basics of the game are just a rip-off from the diablo system. The only significant difference is the addition of quite good graphics.
Unfortunatly this is one of the most uninteresting games i've ever played. I pretty much exclusivly play rpgs and i was just totally bored about 10 minutes into this game. The plot is pretty much just meeting some schmuck on the road and he tells you something to do, so you go do it, and kill things along the way. I mean come on...that was pretty fun at first but after Diablo, Diablo 2, and the numerous clones they spawned; that sort of thing has kind of gotten old.
You can only play as a human character and theres very few modifications you can do to your characters looks (and all of those modifications are abhorantly cheesy looking).
The advancement system is pretty simple, and i think thats why its boring. If you want you character to be good in melee weapons; then you smash things with a sword. Want an archer? shoot things with a bow then. Want character who can smash and shoot? then smash things with a sword half of the time and shoot with a bow the other half.
But the thing that really made me hate this game was the camera angles. They jammed so many stupid trees and caves and mountains into the screen that you cant see ANYTHING. you have to spend about a minute moving your camera around before you can see anything, giving yourself an epileptic seizure in the process. I found it easist just to play the game completly in the "mega-map" mode. In that mode all the silly graphics dont get into your way and you can actually see where you're going. But of course in the map mode you reduce the game to commanding a dot around and telling it to kill things.
The game did suprise me on how smoothly it ran. Usually microsoft games give me alot of trouble with choppy graphics and game crashes. But this one never crashed and was plesently smooth and fast. Figures that the only game they make the runs smooth is the one i'm not interesting in playing...
All in all if you're up for a diablo clone i'd recommend throne of darkness, forget about this waste of 1 gigabyte. On the up side it may make a good game for children...

Dungeon Siege was one of the most anticapated games of E3 2001. It had beautiful graphics, beautiful landscapes, the gameplay was simplified, making it a different, more enjoyable RPG, and the sound effects were great. Now, finally, the wait is over. I picked up Dungeon Siege at EB Game World, and here is what I have to say about DS:
Dungeon Siege, I think, is definetely revolutionary. There are so many great things, that no one would think of putting into an RPG, that truely make this game an experience. The graphics are on a 3d world, not a grid or map. There are pack mules, which, quite geniously, have a large inventory to cary your extra items. The sound effects are great, with the help of Creative's EAX. Lastly, dungeon siege is very flexible, letting you change your mind on the fly.
The graphics in Dungeon Seige are incredible. There has never been an RPG out yet that has as good a graphics engine as DS. It is not on a map or grid, but in a 3d rendered world. I also enjoy the fact that I have never seen a loading screem, and never will, thanks to the engine.
The Packmules are genious! Every RPG should have something like a packmule for now on. The packmules are great. They have 3 times the inventory size of your character, making it easy to cary many excess items, that you may have use for later on. They are also very smart. The AI is literally very good. When you get into a battle, the pack mule will run away until the battle is over, and it will then come back. Also, if the mule gets attacked by an enemy, it will kick it. Although this is good, it isn't very strong. You still have to watch your little packmule to see what kind of trouble it gets into. If a swarm of enemies like a swarm of fireshooting krugs, it will most likely be trapped, thus making you be the one to save it.
With the help of Creative's EAX, dungeon siege has the best sound effects I have ever heard in a computer game. I also enjoyed the background music. The music would have decreshendos and creshendos, making the game more exciting. It is like being in a horror movie!
The gameplay for DS is also great! You only have to click once to kill an enemy!!! Finally! My hands will not fall assleep from clicking and clicking repetively to kill an enemy like in Diablo 2! This is a great feature, but another good feature in gameplay is the flexibility. Chris Taylor, the creator and leader of Gas Powered Games, has made the game so flexible, that you can change your mind on the fly. In the beginnning of the game, you start out as a farmer, not noing much of any skill, like melee, range, or combat and nature skills. You are basically equal in evrey aspect, but very low. It is not in D2, where you chose someone with different skills, different attacks, and different weapon choices. No. In DS, you develope your character as you go along. You choose wheather you want to be a mage, or a melee weapon user, or an archer. That is all up to you. You can even say, "Well, I have enough archers in my party, so I want to have a combat and nature mage." You have 8 people in your party, so it is always easy to change people around without having to many of one skill.
Downsides, yes, there are some downsides to the game. First off, the game is very brainless. You just go into the cave filled with monsters, find that the entrance/exit is blocked off, need to find the other caved filled with monsters, go into endless rooms filled with the same creatures, and exit it, and then blow up the entrance, or whatever.
I was surprised to hear this, but I have heard from people farhter in the game than me that there are vehicles, grenades, and guns. Now, I have no idea what time this game takes place in (there is not much of a story line, i will talk about that next), but to the looks, this game takes place in mid-evil times. But you have to remember that you can be a woman, and at mid-evil times, people did not have women fighting (no offense to any woman out there reading this), so this game could take place in the future. Who knows.
Like I mentioned above, there is absolutely no story line to the game. There is a short cinematic in the beginning, saying how the kingdom of Ehb (where the game takes place) is peaceful, and then some monsters come and terrorize it. Next thing you know, your friend dies infront of you, and then the game begins.
So, all in all, this game is revolutionary, but I don't know if people will be playing this game for a long time. You should still buy this game because it is revolutionary, and it is very fun. I am just going to warn you that many serrious RPG gamers will not appreciate this game. Most people will find it enjoyable, but, according to your own tastes, it will depend on how long you like the game and play it.

A total waste of 50 bucks! The graphics are GREAT, but the game is DULL! All you do is fight, then fight some more, and in-between fights, you fight some more. The quests (what few there are) are absolutely BORING, and you spend all your time fighting.
Fun Game!

It's like Diablo II with much better graphics. However, it can get tedious at times (just like Diablo II) and its "role playing" elements are fairly light. I still enjoyed it a lot and recommend it to anyone who liked Diablo II! I let my brother in law play it for a couple of hours one day and next thing I knew he and his wife were as absorbed in it as I was. It was a little short but still a lot of fun with some replay value though not a lot.
Buy it and enjoy!
very boring, very linear, very big let down.....and more....

Thi game was bought by a few friends and myself mostly for the cool dungeon siege creator/editor. IT IS NOT IN THE GAME.
MICROSOFT SAYS IT IS COMING SOMETIME.... B.S.
This game is boring, straight-forward, and just...boring.
What's worse, there are a million cheats and hacks and microsoft could care less. The game play is very linear: fight forever, level up once in awhile, get items slightly better than u have already, beat more slightly harder things down. I have gamed since atari....and this comes as a major league disappointiong game. I believe some of the very favorable reviews for this game were also written B4 the game was available too....so believe them at your own risk.
Overall, nice graphics, nice panning, and 3-D....NO character development, NO uniqueness in characters...all weapon and spells merely heal/buff/do more damage the highere they get and look a tiny bit more impressive. NO uniqueness in monsters.
This game is like the arcade gauntlet legends game really....just with items available and it misleads you into believing it is more. It isn't. Buy Gauntlet instead (at least it was the first game in its genre, this isn't)...if that is what you want. Buy this only if you're bored of Diablo2 and don't mind hack/cheats galore.
1 star people...seriously.
All the flash..

..without those pesky little things like plot and character development.
Yes, "Dungeon Siege" is the embodiment of the cliche "style over substance". I was taken in by the hype, lured by such phrases as "Epic storyline!" and "An amazing RPG adventure! Endless replay value!" when, instead, they should have read "What storyline?" and "A droll stroll through lifeless environs with little control over anything."
Had I expected a 3D carbon copy of Diablo II, I wouldn't be disappointed as I WOULD NOT have bought Dungeon Siege. As it stands, I have yet again learned to wait for reviews from honest sites (read: unbiased and unpaid for positive p/reviews) before buying--literally--into the latest hype.
That brings me to what I did not like: the shallow magic/combat/experience/level systems. Unfortunately for me, that's all Dungeon Siege is--one giant failure of a system, dipped in gold and coated with glitter.
It should be immediately evident to any true RPG fan that DS is, well, not: not an RPG, not a fun game, and not worth the time wasted playing it. Dungeon Siege is an action game, and not very good one. Swords and fireballs are not magical genre-transmogrifying game elements, and including them will not mask the fact that Dungeon Siege is anything but a ROLE-PLAYING game, and should never be listed as such.
