I can't keep my hands off

This game is the ultimate in Dungeons and Dragons computer role playing. I am a veteran of tabletop 3e rules, so I was afraid that I would get confused. But after a little nosing in the manual, I managed to get the hang of the most complicated D&D rules ever. Why? Because most of it is done behind the scenes for you! All I had to find out was what THAC0 was, and why AC was better low than high. Otherwise, I was all set. This is a game that's easy to understand, but hard to master. And the graphics are great. The possiblilities are endless. I once tried to pickpocket a noble in a tavern. I failed, he went hostile, Minsc shot and killed him, and suddenly the entire tavern hated me. So I killed everyone, Minsc left, and I decided to reload the game and not steal anything any more. But that was so much fun! I am amazed.

The Standard for All Future D & D Gaming

This is by far the most exciting D & D gaming experience you can possibly own. The adventure is in your control, add who you want to your party, go where you want. The Baldur's Gate Series allows an unlimited amount of sub-plots to go on, and you determine whether you care to do them or not. You are after all a GOD!!!!

From the very first this game immerse you into a huge detailed and very very addictive universe.
definately rate this as one of the best games ever. the learning curve is not to bad with a short tutorial to get to grips with everything and then straight into the fray.
the magic and combat are just stunning, and the effects when casting spells are electrifying.
the areas and adventures are huge and the game just keeps getting better and better.
The various characters on offer are very varied and you can have very different styles of party, and of course personnel can be changed as you wish.
i never finished this game unfortunately, but have very pleasant memories of it.
waiting eagerly for the next game of the same calibre but am yet to find it.

BG 2 is GREAT!

I personally though Baldur's Gate 2 was better than the first Baldur's Gate game. Why? The charcater portraits look better (they look more AD & D -ish), there are WAY more spells to cast, the quests get more exciting, and so much more that I can't name all of them at once! One thing I really liked about the game is that the characters can develop romances with another NPC. Now THAT'S really role-playing!

romanticism transformed

perhaps it was the idealized speech, or the gently set landscapes, or the prospect of magic talismands, or even the storyline, but whatever it was, I can definately say that this game is "romantic". Yet, even in saying this, I still appreciate this game perhaps more than any RPG game I have ever played. Now, If you're like me, and appreciate games for their gameplay and not their beauty, then this game might not entice you at first, yet it is quite engrossing. It pulled many aspects that I enjoyed about Diablo II and Nox into the game (although I am not commending Westwood for that Diablo want to be) and also had many "board game-like aspects". And suprisingly, I did eventually find the romantic blend of Realism and surrealism set in a Tolkien-like setting quite interesting. The weapon and item inventory was well thought-through, with a hint of intellectualism injected into the story. All and all, I would say that this game redefined the romantic RPG.

One of the best RPGs out there

This game is, in one word, simply a great game (oops that's 4). This is one of those games that you start and you just feel like finishing (although i don't recommend it in one sitting as it takes quite a while to finish). With the ability to create the character of your dreams, or you could (as I did) re-create the Lord of the Rings characters with the abilities to create your own portraits and sound file for the characters you play with. You can be anywhere from a blood-thirsty barbarian half-orc, to a bruce lee of a monk.

The games starts you out in a dungeon when you need to escape, and as you learn more and more about your situation, you meet new characters, embark on a number of quests, and forge unique and powerful artifacts from pieces you find around the globe. This game has enough twists and turns to keep just about anyone interested and occupied for quite some time.

Not only is this game one heck of a fun game, but you don't need the latest, state of the art computers to play it. It runs fine on my 350Mhz pentium II, with 160MB of ram (although it would run smoothly with less), and a 2MB video card.

Then, when you finish the game, and all of the fun seems to have ended, a new world is opened with the multiplayer game. Yes, the multiplayer is the same game as the single player, but you have the ability to make allies and destroy your enemies. Not only that, but you don't have the hassle of having to control 6 guys, you only have to control one.

Overall this game has to be just about the greatest, if not the greatest, RPG on the market and is well worth your money. Any computer gamer would be overjoyed to have this game.

Too many distractions

This game is similar, but vastly inferior to Arcanum. It would nonetheless be a very fun game if not for the fact that you are constantly "roped" into new missions. In Arcanum, if you want to find a new mission, you talk to someone and prompt them for a mission. In this game, right while you are in the middle of another mission, you will get approached, over and over again, with requests to do new missions. Before you know what happens, you have 5 missions in your queue and the clock is ticking on all of them (in some cases, travelmates will die if you don't solve the mission quickly enough). And for every mission you finish, it seems you get two more that you have to do. At a certain point, I just found myself so buried in missions that I quit playing. I had totally forgotten what I was doing in some of the earlier missions and I just realized that it wasn't any fun any more. I think if you use a walkthrough guide to make sure you finish your missions more quickly, then maybe it wouldn't be such a burden to play.

Wow anyone?

You know, I have played a lot of rpgs and this is the very best. Plot was well rounded enough to satisfy (having a dark or light side, depending), AIs were not too shabby, and character modification made each play different. Yes, there is a corny romance there but the option can be turned off (though it sometimes maked gameplay more interesting). If you want to feel like you are interacting with other living, breathing humanbeings and you can't exactly do so over the internet or in d&d, this is the best way to get it done. I have recomended this game once and will recomend it again. A great game.

Simply amazing

I have to say that Baldur's Gate II is probably the best game ever. I started playing it several years ago, and would still be playing it if I hadn't lost cd2 (A new cd already heading for my house ^^) I have never been so addicted to any game in my whole life; it is role playing as nothing has been before. Instead of the usual hack'n slash you're having conversations (and sometimes romances too ^^) with your party members, getting to know them better than you ever could in BG1(or any other game). In fact it is not a game, it is a whole new world, that you can never explore fully, as new mods are created every single day. There is no excuse, buy the game!
