Unless you have a high-end computer, then don't even bother.

I don't think this game is that bad, because it's not. But if you don't have a high-end computer, like me, then your definently gonna have a frustrating time.

I tried as hard as I could, but no matter how much I configured the game, I still got slowdown. My computer isn't [bad] at all, it works just fine for me on just about every game.

But besides that, the game still has a fair share of problems.

First of all, whats the point of leveling up when all you get for it is a few Hit Points????

Second, the battles are boring and slow. Half the time you'll be hitting nothing but air against your enemys.

Third, wheres the freedom here?? All you do is get more and more quests CONSTANTLY. You'll find yourself having like 15 quests to do in a very short amount of time. Theres not much exploration in this game either. I thought you would get to travel around but all you get to do is click on a city or something and your there.

The graphics aren't great either. Putting the resolution on 800x600 just makes things more difficult to see. Character models [are bad] too.

And speaking of characters, theres hardly any character portraits in the game so expect to see a lot of people with the same face as you.

The sound is quite lame also. You here the same battle music over and over and over... gets very annoying. The voices are okay, but hearing a guy saying... "Hey Boo"" for the thousandth time gets a little out of control.

So in the end, the game definently wasnt what I thought it would be, since I heard so many great things about it, but honestly, I would still be playing it if I didn't get so much slowdown. So like I said, if you don't have a high end computer then just stay away.

Wow

I bought the original Baldur's Gate and that has been the best game I ever played. So I was excited to get this one. I would give it 4.5, but they don't let you do that. The only reason I don't give it 5 is because it is not as good as the original. Don't get me wrong, this is great, but not as good. The character kits make the game much more interesting and lend a much higher replay value. Also, get this over Diablo 2. I have played that quite a bit and it is not that great. That game stresses bashing your enemy over the head with a sword several times, while the BG series stresses stategy.

I have also read reviews that this game doesn't always work. Well, I don't even have all the requirements (let alone the recommended stats) and it works flawlessly on my machine with no sacrifice on quality. If you don't yet have BG1, I would recommend buying that first. It's cheaper, and in my opinion, better. Also, when you are done, you can import your character into BG2.

All in all, a great game!

Great Game, but Flaws for my computer brought it down.

This game is a great expansion to the first, but my computer had many problems with it. First off, our arrows would blur and crash the computer and this would get so bad we had to reinstall it. I loved the story and the scenery was great, but the lack of random areas to explore was a slight dissapointment. I would recomend this to anyone with a good computer.

Lots of fun, but....

This game is pretty good. I haven't beat it yet myself, but I'm getting there.

Good: Has a lot of plot twists, lots of NPCs to use, can use your character from BG1 and from Icewind Dale (or so I'm told, haven't tried it myself because I don't have it), can export your character to Neverwinter Nights when it comes out, lots of equipment and spells, good character creation choices, allows multiplayer

Bad: Uses old 2nd Edition AD&D rules, main story is very linear (I very quickly got sick of starting a new game to try out new characters), some animations are choppy and seemingly half-done, you run into experience caps before your characters reach their potential

Ugly: I couldn't get Internet play to work with friends, and my friends said they couldn't get it to work amongst themselves, and we couldn't get ANY support from either Interplay or MPlayer.com (the company that runs the internet play mode)

All things considered it's a very good game. I still play it, although just by myself. I'm really looking forward to Neverwinter Nights though, and if I don't put BG2 away by then, it will be up on my shelf when I get NWN.

The Greatest RPG of all time.

Wow. Baldur's Gate II is a masterpeice. BG2 amazes from the begging to the end. Featuring hundreds of spells, a unique cast, and tons and tons of adventure. While sometimes difficult, BG2 is a must buy for any Role Playing Game fan and an improvement over the stellar original. With over 100+ hours of gameplay, BG2 is also an incredible value.

Great entertainment

I thought Baldur's Gate 2 is a wonderfull game.It offers you many choices to play the game differently. You can be the good hero, the knight in shnning armore saving the peasants and doing good all around,or you could very well be the evil child of the God of Murder....killing and rampaging everything in your path, shoving people along so they do your bidding. This game has it all, intense battles, awesome magical powers that can tunr the tide of a battle in one second and make you have to rethink your whole strategy and come up with another as the battle is evolving in front of you.The story is also fully imersive. It makes you dislike some chracters. The only downside to this game is that certain quests are hard to do since the information that guides you along is foggy. But it just adds a toughness to the game. All in all,it is a great game.

Great game with very minor flaws.

I'm going to keep this review short and simple. BG2 is awesome. The gameplay is perfect, the graphics are gorgeous, and the sound is amazing. The only reason I am giving it four stars is because some people (not me) may become impatient with the game's pace, like pausing in the middle of battles. It also may be too hard for people not used to the BioWare engine. So maybe it should be 4 and 5 stars *shrug*. For people used to this type of game, it is amazingly good.

I also reccomend:

Icewind Dale...EverQuest...Swirling Mist...Baldur's Gate...

Excellent, not up to par with BG1

This game is great with very few flaws. For the lowdown:
Good:
Graphics, sound, gameplay, plot, magical items

Bad:
Lack of NPC choices (no real thieves, most of the NPC's seem purposely underpowered)

That being said, it is a pretty incredible game. The choices you make as far as alignment actually matter, especially in the end. NPC interaction is very deep and sometimes hilarious. The only real problem I had was the fact that there were no NPC thieves to pick (other than a sucky gnome illusionist/thief and a bounty hunter who, in the end, wasn't such a great idea). This may seem like a minor flaw, but a thief is a pretty indispensible part of any party. Might as well not have any good spellcasters.
Buy this game, you'll thank yourself for it

90% hype with a 10% delivery on promise

From all the hype this game was getting, I was expecting something outstanding. Instead of a great game, I end up with a piece of junk called Baldur's Gate 2. Is it an improvement over the first Baldur's Gate? Not by much. Baldur's Gate 2 has a rather linear and unimaginative story line, which can be completed in less than 50 hours (and this is including the side quests). I realize a lot of computer role playing games have story lines that are rather straight forward, but from all the talk about this game, I was expecting something different than the run of the mill linear story line instead of the nonsense that passes for a plot in BG2. This game is nothing more than hack and slash despite its cries to the contrary. One thing I did find amusing was the so-called romance subplot; I have one thing to say about that: what a joke. If you're going to try to give characters personality, do not do a half-baked job of it. There are only two redeeming qualities this title has. BG2 does have graphics that are well done, but they are no where near to being excellent. The second redeeming quality of this game is that it probably made its creators plenty of money from all the people that were suckered into buying this over priced piece of trash. Since there are games out there that are even worse than BG2, I will give this title 2 stars instead of 1.

great graphics...horrible game

When i began this game i was impressed with the graphics and the sound. However the story started off bad and only got worse, not to mention everything else. You had reletivly no choice in characters compared to the first. You had a massive amn city but thats it for cities...few towns and and stuff but not much else. You had no break down of the map only direct town to town traveling...unlike the first where you had to actually walk from town to town. no offence to others but i did all the adventures and everything in like one week...so i dunno why people say it is such a big game, cause it is not. the first one was 4 cd's this one is 3...with better graphics and sound taking up more disk space so how can you say it is even as long? and finally they ruin the story line, for example in the first game it was said that every race has one child by the god...but by having Imoen be a child too you run the risk of there being 2 from the same race if you and her are the same race...this is just one of the many flaws i have found in the game. On the whole this game seems like it was slapped together over night and all the attention was on the graphics and sound and none on any other area of the game, so i do not recomend this at all but i do recomend the first one it is amazing
