Single Player not as good as the original

Ever since I got the original Baldur's Gate for Christmas 2000 from a friend, I've been playing in almost non-stop. For my birthday (July) in 2001, I bought myself the sequel. While installing, I was very excited, and I was very impressed in the beginning by the superior graphics and sound quality. However, two weeks into the game, and I became very less enthusiastic. Why? There's no PLOT. All you do is run around, solving whatever little quest comes up. In the original, there was a goal that you had to complete, and each chapter was leading you up to that final goal. BGII seems to be made up entirely of sub-quests, with no real objective for the player to complete. In my opinion, the whole POINT of an RPG is the plot. In summary, I was very disappointed with the single player campaign. However, although I have not yet tried it, the superior graphics should make this game much more fun in multiplayer that the original.

If you like 3/4 view role play games this is for you!

I really enjoy role playing games but despise heads-up shoot-em-up games. Baldur's Gate and II both give you solid role playing, good adventures, and a nice overhead view. Make certain that you download the latest patch for the best play possible.

Must-Have Game For All Role Playing Fans

If you wanna get hold of a game with serious role-playing elements and long gameplay, this is it. This game is the one every true role-playing gamers will appreciate. intriguing gameplay, variety of choices to make and weapons and items will have you playing for more. You don't need to worry about any system requirements if you have quite a good computer. It will run fine in any windows version with 6 gigabytes. It's totally flawless.

Now I wanna get down to the problems. Everything is not perfect after all. I was a bit frustrated when i was trying to get out of the immense dungeon where you have numbers of enemies to defeat. Once you get out, you are free to explore anywhere. But loading eats the time and cache size eats tons of gigabytes. There are a few bugs, too. The graphic isn't spectacular but you get used to it once you are hooked into the gameplay. Few of these problems can be solved if you install the patches.

The problems are not at all serious. It's more likely you will hardly notice because deep gameplay pulls you to its world for long time. That's why I gave this game 5 stars. Those who gave them poor scores did not obviously give the time for this game to shine. Anyhow, Role-Playing fans will play it forever because it also features multiplayer where you only need to control one.

Another good thing about this game is a lot of superb features are added in the game that wasn't in original Baldur's Gate. I highly recommend that you play the original first. That way you will know where the game is going..........

If you do not like this game then you are not alive! This game has kept me entertained for hours and hours and I have never grown tired of it. There are great additions and improvements over Baldur's Gate I that make the game run smoother and make it much more entertaining. I will not spoil the plot line, but will say be prepared for some serious gaming! My only 'beef' with the game is that at one point you are thrown into an 'unbreakable' plot line that does not allow for much leeway. Like the 'official' review says, this game has over 100 subplots and I would suggest doing the majority of these early in the game to get your character up in levels. Spend your money and enjoy, you will not be disappointed :-)

The best RPG ever.

I enjoy most RPG games but Baldur's Gate 2; Shadow of Amn introduced me to a different kind of RPG with tons of choices to make and each one making a huge impact on what happens in the game. They have great characters which you will either love or hate to the end. Baldur's Gate 2: Shadow of Amn is definitly the best RPG ever and I hope more like it are made or even better ones.

The best i have seen yet! i wish i could give it more stars!

BG2:SoA is a truly magnificant game. There are many more detailed (and rewarding!) sidequests than in the original Baldur's Gate, and the story is just phenomenal! Pursuing the romantic options with the NPCs is also a lot of fun, I think. Creating the character is a lot more interesting than in BG1. In addition to a new race, there are several sub-classes which leave a myriad of options open. The only thing I didn't like was the new portraits, but it's very simple to import your own portrait, so it wasn't really an issue. The players also move faster than in BG1, which is a real relief, after watching the characters in BG1 crawl sluggishly to their appointed place. The settings are varied; you even make an excursion down to the Underdark. The graphics are beautiful, and there are great items, including various armors made from dragon scales. There are exotic villans, and the game can be quite challenging, depending on the difficulty level. Be warned, there are A LOT of riddles in this game, and some are a little hard. All in all, this is a VERY addictive game. You won't be seeing your family anytime soon once you start playing.

It's my first

Well, I have been a console gamer all my life, with my occasional chare of PC games, namely quacke, warcraft and starcraft. Since I got a new PC I decided to get a new PC game, and looking around some internet sites, I saw BG2. The game seemed good, and I wanted to know what Dungeons and dragons exactly was. I decided to get the game. And man. I didn't know what I was getting into. I haven't gotten much sleep since I got it. The game is so much fun, tons of side quests and adventures. To be truthfull, I never expected to like it as much as I do. I decided to create a Monk, and he's real great, even though he uses no armor or weapons. Stunning blow and quivering palm make enemies bend to their knees. And the magic resistanse make him a massive wizard and priest killer, he get even more that the wizard slayer! Anyway, get the game, you won't regret it. And wait for the expansion in summer.

Far better than it's predecessor...

Baldur's Gate was a superb game, but Shadows of Amn improved upon it very significantly.
The gameplay was made considerably harder as new adversaries, some of whom are ridiculously powerful, are added, along with nastier traps and puzzles. To the gamer's advantage are many new NPCs, as well as some old ones, a whole plethora of new items, more specialized abilities, new character kits and a few new classes to choose from.
There are many new areas to explore and conquer, dragons to face, and lives (chiefly your own) to be saved.
Incidentally, I highly reccomend the Monk character...truly a unique and enjoyable character to play as.
