If you like "The Lord of the Rings" book and movie-trilogy then you shouldn't play this game. "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" has a poorly designed look of Middle-earth and for some reason it doesn't even seem to follow the plot of the movie that well at all.

Yes it is much better than last years The Two Towers game. One sweet difference is to the awesome co-op mode. 9/10

This game is really good on PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube. I warn you though don't buy it for PC or GBA because those versions are beyond suckage! This game is good with familiar controls, two player, and different paths of characters. The bad things about this game is its logic, Aragorn can run faster than Legolas, the camera angles suck, and the graphics are not as good as The Two Towers. I say The Two Towers is better, but this one is also very good

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King has one of the best battle engines for a hack 'n slash combat game 2nd only to the Mark of Kri. Its simple to use & it makes killing Orcs fun as Hell! The camera angles can hinder your fighting at times, but it is made up for by easy to pull off comboes that devestate as well as look really cool! The AI can be difficult at times as well but thats what makes the game fun & challenging. Some may want to rent before buying, especially more unexperienced combat gamers as this can be a frustrating title. But if your up to it, ROTK is a very fun & addictive game.
EA's been workin hard I see...

First of all, I want to tell all the readers that well, I hated the second lord of the rings video game. The movie was brilliant, but the game(i didn't hate it, maybe that's a little extreme) wasn't very good. I would've given it a 6 out of 10 at most. The problem was it was just too darn hard to be fun! But my friend bought this game, and we entered co-op play. And honestly, I was having fun! Single play is still hard, nevertheless (i dont know maybe I'm just not good at it?) or at least I think so but for a sequel to a game I didn't like to much, I gotta give EA its props. This game isn't a revelation, but its hard to say that I wasn't having fun. The feature that really saved this game is co-op. If you have a choice between the second and third, buy this one. This game has a wonderful coop mode where you can plow through all the levels with a friend! And its so much fun that you won't even want to play the game til you get a friend over sometimes! The return of the king is just a really great game. But most of you are probably tired of hearing me blab. I'll just give you the lowdown.
PROS:
1. Co-op gameplay
2. Sound is so realistic!
3. Certain environment interactions make you feel like you're there and actually doing something important!
4. Wonderful music.
5. A much more forgiving difficulty (at least in co-op)
6. I great cast of playable characters.
7. RPGish upgrades are pretty cool.
8. Voice acting is right on.
CONS:
1. You can't skip cutscenes unless you press start the second after it begins!
2. Some situations will make you think what the heck they want you to do.
3. Still a bit too hard.
4. In coop with the hobbits and everything, the characters are locked in the beginning except for Sam! (I don't even know how to unlock them!)
5. Some sequences you play for a while, then are forced to start ALL OVER.
6. The cheapness of some of your opponents WILL bug you.
Overall gamers, this is a great buy. Highly recommended.
Diagnosis: A-.
Make sure you try coop, its a blast!

Out of the characters I love Faramir and Eowyn...but too bad you can't play as Eowyn (grrr I should complain to the company). At least help her fight the Witch King! But I'm glad that the hobbits are playable, and each has their own unique style of fighting. But most of all, Faramir! The poor guy always gets beat up in the movie and the books, it's high time for some kick-butt!
Gaming Perfection.. well, almost.

The only complaint I have of the wonderful game is that there isn't more of it and that the footage that's included in the game isn't mostly from Return of the King. But, This is the way movie games should be... this and Spider-Man 2! Way to go EA! A must buy!

I bought this for my boys (ages 15 and 12) for Xmas. They love it.
I bought it after much review reading on PlayStation 2's of the Fellowship and Two Towers. The Return of the King got good marks from everybody and apparently with good reason.
