I've played in both single-player and co-op modes. This game is awesome! Even after many, many hours of gameplay and level restarts, I still love doing battle. Gandalf was hardest to play in the single-player mode. My boyfriend and I just finished co-op mode. The only negative was that you can't jump between paths as in single-player mode. After completing the path of the king, you take the path of the wizard, you have to complete all those levels before taking the path of the hobbits. A walkthrough guide helps sometimes. Excellent challenges, graphics and upgrades provided many hours of hack 'n' slash entertainment.

This third installment in the Lord of the Rings series has a superior control system, and extremely fun missions, it is lacking, however, in one key aspect: it is impossible to skip cutscenes unless you have already seen them. Each cutscene has clips from the movie, which you will have undoubtedly seen if you are willing to shell out the money to pay for the game, so I don't see why you are forced to watch the cutscenes. In the game, you are able to play as any of the original nine members of the fellowship (except Faramir replaces Boromir), but Faramir, Merry, and Pippin are only unlockable once you complete the game. Each character is unique, and the way that each character does combinations looks slightly different, adding to the realism of the game. All in all, it's definitely worth getting, especially with Amazon's low price.

While there are more characters to play then the two towers, they do not feel a whole lot different. Also, I still feel less like I'm in the movie but in certain scenes from the movie as the cutting is large and continunity is off. But it is fun, and I like the multiple players options. Recomended.

The game is challenging yes, but beatable. I like buying new weapons and fighting the challenging characters. Co-Op is better and easier (Inless you play with your dad who is like not the best at video games and gets lost easily lol) but oh well it's good. Some parts are hard to figure out and it took us a while but we still beat it. Now along with other people we can't figure out the Smeagol round. Hard... heck yeah. But still I recomend it to anyone!

I bought this for my boys (ages 15 and 12) for Xmas. They love it.
I bought it after much review reading on PlayStation 2's of the Fellowship and Two Towers. The Return of the King got good marks from everybody and apparently with good reason.
Hard, but still great to play!

Man, this game was hard! my dad and I took a while to finish it. I like that you can buy different weapons. This is probably the most channelganing Xbox game we have.I like it and I think anyone should get it. It really follows up the movie. And as a girl, this is not too hard to play if you have someone with you!

This is a really REALLY good reason you should get the game on PS2 XBOX GAMECUBE never get them on PC cause hacks allways comes up trust me i know cause my my mate got the game and he kept getting tech difficultys untill he got it on GAMECUBE anyway gollum is a hard character cause you can,t hurt him with phys speed firce with firce and phys you can sort of knock him to the edge but becarefull because he defends himself almost all the time so ill give you a few pointers...
You play the level as frodo (naturally because it was him and gollum who had the brawl in the film) all the other hobbit levels is sam incase your new to the game but if you get to crack of doom then have 2 only damageing attacks against the little freak physicall and firce i got the game on PS2 myself so i don,t know how you do(or did)it but anyway here are the hints gollum does differnet poses witch tell you when he will attack and defend and leave himself open...gollum will open his mouth wide and go ahhhhh!!! and his head will raise slightly this could mean 2 things he could either batter you over witch you can never ever defend against (unless you get out of the way)and his septuple strike witch is when he hits you 2 times stops to defend and hits you again 2 times if you can avoid pain long enough you can push him against the wall he will lose his stand hit him more a few times and he falls only hanging on with his hands press kill move imidiately cause he will get up if you leave him to long to knock him either use physicall or firce and eventually he will lose his stand (witch i said earlier) belive it or not but i haven,t evven done it myself but i know what he does.

The game itself is great but im not so sure what to do when I have to beat smeagol it starts off with frodo and sam walking in the rock part of the ring tossing but gollum comes out of nowhere and tackles frodo slaps him to stop him from pushing him off then takeing the ring and biteing his finger off but anyway bottom line gollum is impossibly hard to beat the most I have ever got him is twice but then i die again cause he is not killable unless you smack him to the edge and stab him in the back but he climbs up the wall and trys to kill you again so bottom line how do you kill the guy without him killing you with his (so called) fists of fury?
Very good game

This game, though frustrating at times, is one of the best adventure/action games ever. I did not want to stop playing it. Here is what happens:
You can play as up to 9 characters:
Aragorn
Legolas
Gimli
Gandalf
Sam
Frodo
Pippen
Merry
Faramir
(Pippen, Merry and Faramir can only be unlocked once you have beaten the game)
There are 3 paths you can choose from: The Path of the Wizard, King or Hobbit. The Path of the Wizard takes you to Minas Tirith and eventually the Black Gate. The Path of the King takes you to the Paths of the Dead, Pelennor Fields and the Black Gate. The Hobbit takes you to Shelobs Lair, Cirith Ungol and of course the Cracks of Doom. Most levels are pretty fun and addicting.
Now I'll give you a few helpful pointers. Number one, don't get frustrated with Top of the Wall, the 2nd level on the Path of the Wizard. You have to keep the orcs off of Minas Tirith's wall otherwise the overrun meter will go up causing you to lose the level, whether you died or not. Just hold off the orcs until the seige towers come. There should be four. Destroy the first 3 using your staff. The 4th one is supposed to make it to the wall. Destroy it and kill all the orcs around it the run down stairs to finish the level. The level can sometimes be hard but overall its not to bad and can be a fun level to go back and play several times.
Another hint: Most people think that the final level, the crack of Doom, is hard. Actually its not. This is the first level you can use Frodo. What happens is you have to defeat Gollum. Its really easy. Just get him over to the edge near the lava and do Orc Hewer or something similar like Fierce Attack. Gollum will start to lose his balance and lean backwards. Continue hitting him until he's just hanging on by his hands then do a finishing blow and send him falling. He will continue to crawl back up until his health bar is depleated. Dont worry, its not that hard.
My final hint is for the Black Gate. This level is also pretty easy on co-op mode but if you haven't beat it on single player mode, it can be tricky. First off choose Gandalf. After you defeat the Mouth of Sauron, a pretty easy boss, prepare to fight back 6 waves of orc attacks. All waves come in through the front until the third one when they come in from all sides. Just be sure you guard your 3 fellowship members (if you were Gandalf they would be Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli) if they die, game over. One thing that make a major difference is orc archers. Kill them before they get to your fellowship heroes because the heroes usually just stand there while they get pelted with arrows. After the 6th wave, 3 Nazgul will come. This is why you pcik Gandalf. Shoot them a couple times with your staff and they will die. His staff works way better then arrows. After that, you've beat it.
I hope my hints have helped you. Enjoy the game and happy playing
