Very Impressed! They really did update it in lots of many ways that it feels great to actually play it. Very enjoyable. I am a huge Mario fan and love the fact that they changed the music and updated lots of stuff. Great job! I higly recomend it.

I'm an 11 year old girl and this game is by far my favorite. I like all sorts of games- pets, mysteries and action. The one annoying part is when you get stuck on a level. Ussually I wait a few weeks, go back to it and beat it. Also, YOU CAN GET TO WORLDS 7 AND 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PROS:

Awsome graphics

variety of levels

never gets repetitive

not aimed at a certain age group

FUN

does not end to early

CONS:

Some levels hard to beat

A great new Mario title

Pros:

-- Beautiful graphics.
-- Levels full of creative new takes on classic ideas.
-- Very fun gameplay.

Cons:

-- The difficulty level is not very high.
-- Some of the mini games are not fun.

New Super Mario Brothers is one of the best Mario games that I have played in a long time. It hearkens back to the classic gameplay formula of some of the very early Mario games while adding fresh touches and not just in the form of mushrooms that make Mario giant or tiny. Nearly every other level has some unique and usually cute new idea attached to it.

The graphics are beautiful, some of the best on the DS, and very appropriate to this type of game. The music is nice and I appreciated the themes from earlier games, though I wish that there were a few more tunes. Just the main game alone is easily worth the price, but New Super Mario Brothers comes with a large number of mini games. Most of these are not terribly fun, but there are three or four that I have spent hours playing.

My biggest complaint about this game is that it is too easy. I probably could have beat it in a day if I had wanted to do so. Collecting the big coins is supposed to add some difficulty, and it does, but it would be much more effective if there were better rewards, such as extra playable levels, for doing so.

Still, this is a very fun game. One of my favorites on the DS and I would recommend it to anyone who loves Mario.

Addicting, super fun, probably one of the best DS games ever!

Out of all the Nintendo DS games, this is right up there at the top as far as the one that is the best and is the most fun! There are easy levels for children and more challenging levels for more experienced gamers. Being an adult and having actually finished the game, some might argue that it might not be challenging enough but all in all, there is a very wide spectrum of difficulty levels and challenges within the game such as collecting star coins, finding secret pathways, et cetera.

There is HUGE replay value. This game can be literally played for hours. Graphics are outstanding and the new items can be a lot of fun (GIANT sized mushroom, mini mushroom, turtle shell, et cetera). Another challenge is figuring out what item is ideal for which level.

Another nice part of this is that once cleared, a level can be played repeatedly. This is good for the little ones.

Watch out though! You may be tempted to throw the game when you try a level for the upteenth time and get hit at the same spot! (definition of insanity - doing the same thing over and over the same way and expecting a different result!).

Let's talk about the worlds a little bit:

World 1 - Very easy, basic super Mario level that most players will recognize from past games. This level is good for the little ones. This world will get the player used to the Mario way of doing things.

World 2 - Desert world. Obviously, a little more challenging. Some of the new skills required for the game such as wall jumping can come in handy, especially in the tower where one must wall jump repetatively in order to secure a star coin. Hint here: in order to open up world 4, one must defeat the castle enemy as "mini mario". Alternatively, opening up a "warp cannon" will also do it. This can be done in level 2A and is a bit tricky insofar as timing (bounce up on the turtle to gain access to yellow pipe - timing must be perfect!!).

World 3 - Water world. About the same level of difficulty. Lots of carribean style entertaining music. Finding the secret exit in the ghost house will lead to a warp pipe (to world 6). Again, to do so, the player must be FAST with perfect timing (instead of leading through the traditional exit door after triggering "p" switch, go backwards and back down the stairs (without touching them) and go into the FIRST door instead of the second. The first door will disappear once the time runs out so the player MUST be FAST - may be a tad easier with a turtle shell).

HINT: To this end, once the warp cannon in world 3 is open, a player can get a power-up item. Enter the warp pipe world but instead of climbing in the warp pipe, continue to the right and there will be a roulette type box where a player can acquire a power up. The player can go back and do this as many times as desired whenever desired. After the first time, the player can simply hit "start" and "return to map" if the desired power-up is not acquired.

World 4 - A grassy world that can be challenging to the youger set although no doubt teens will have it down in nothing flat. Gaining secret exit in the ghost house (must bring a mini mushroom in order to accomplish this), warp pipe to level 7 will open.

World 5 - Ice world. Probably this reviewer's least favorite because of the sliding. Again, finding secret exit in level 5 ghost house can get player to a warp pipe to level 8. The ice factor renders this level very challenging although again, teens will get the hang of it pretty quickly. Alternate way to get to world 7 is to defeat boss in level 5 castle as mini mario.

World 6 - A little bit of everything in this level. These upper levels are more challenging and may take a little more time to the "average" person to defeat, especially if all the star coins are desired. Interestingly, no ghost house in level 6.

World 7 - Again, gets a little difficult. There is a secret exit in the ghost house to open a alternative path - Timing and speed are key but not as critical in earlier level. Speed and timing of jumps are key to get the third star coin, however!

World 8 - AKA "nightmare world"! Obviously, this world gets easier with practice but can be very difficult at first, especially for younger players. Obtaining all star coins in this level is the ultimate challenge! After defeating the first castle, when the player thinks it's all over - a new path is constructed and there is more yet to go. This is a nightime and "spooky" world and the spiders are VERY annoying.

The minigames are a fine addition to an already outstanding game. Readers of my other reviews may recall that I enjoy the brain games. With that said, some of the minigames can possibly be classified as little brain sharpeners/teasers with memory games and reflex games.

Overall, a terrific game with lots of replay value! I give it an A+ for fun!

My 3 & 5 year old boys don't want to play anything else

I bought this for my 2 sons. They love it. The really don't want to play anything else. On a recent vacation all the wanted to do was play this game.

The single player mode is very fun. I played Super Mario on the NEW when I was a kid. This game is similar, but there are enough new levels and concepts to make the game very fun. My 5 year old can play many of the levels, but many are too hard for him. My 3 year old can't really play this mode of the game.

There is a mini game mode. These mini games are very fun and a nice addition. Both my 3 & 5 year old sons can play a fair number of these.

If you have 2 DS consoles you can play both the mini games and an abbreviated platform mode with two players simultaneously. This is where the game really shines for my two sons. They love to play the platform mode against each other. In this mode you choose one of 5-6 maps (backgrounds to play on). The players then collect coins and stars. The first player to a predetermined number of starts wins. You can take stars away from your opponent by jumping on his head. You can also set this mode so that the players have infinit lives. That is nice for the youngsters.

My kids also like to play the mini games in the "battle mode", ie. one on one with two DS consoles.

Love it - Old game is reborn.

Addicting, addicting, addicting. I find myself staying up all hours of the night playing this game. The other mini-games included are also amusing and a nice change to the pace when I need to take a break from the actual game. Highly recommended. A "MUST" for any Mario Bros. fanatic.

It is a lot of fun. It's a lot like the old one the side-to-side view. There are tons of levels. But the problem is that the game is pretty easy to beat. I've already beaten it like 10 times. The minigames are all right but a lot of them are from Super Mario 64 DS. I haven't gotten to play the versus a friend yet but that seems fun. I highly recommend this game.

fun, but frusterating (sometimes)

the first level is fun, and i like it. i like going back to the first world because you can get alot of lifes really fast. that way i can get past all the other levels.
i love being mini because you can fly (sort of) and do lots of stuff. i LOVE being giant, because you can stomp all over the place.
the first world is easy, 2nd world... getting a little harder... 3rd world... its so hard! its almost impossible for me. me and my sister have been working on it for a while.
i love the flowers in the question boxes that you can get. their really helpfull. i like it because then mario shoot fires balls (sweet!).
i bet theirs lots of other fun stuff in the other worlds. i wish i could know but they dont tell you! you have to find out for yourself... boo hoo!
the worst part is that you cant save unless you pass a tower or a castle. so me and my sister keep on having to do 1-3! (the first level of the 3rd world).
i highly recomend this to everyone who likes mario adventures. just try it out! i promise you will like it.

A dissapointment.

I expected so much more in this game. The star coins are too easy to find and the levels are too easy to beat. Still, it's a great game, just a bit on the easy side.
