Great game for a portable

Back in the day, I played the original super mario brothers and loved it. I always wanted to take it along on car trips and when I wintered in Aspen. Now that the game has made it's way to the DS, I played it for 12+ hours a day. Great graphics, gameplay, and of course, unforgetable Nintendo characters.

what happened?

Decent game for young kids. But what happened to levels 4 and 7. What a rip off, why not just have six levels then to skip two levels of fun? And the 20 coins that are used and could be used for extra levels at the end of the game just serve for a new background and decoration. Worst game of the series. Still good but the worst. Hope the next one isn't such a lazy atttempt. Cheers

Great Mario game, but a little short

My sister and I played this game, we really enjoyed, the addition of the Big and little Mushrooms where great as they open a whole new world in the Mario adventures.

I just feel the whole game is kind of short, I was able to finish the whole game in two days (some friends have finished in 4 hours), and I'm not that good.

I was expecting more powers and more complex story line and this game doesn't deliver that.

I like it... I'm not a "hardcore" gamer, by any means. I purchased my ds lite, a month ago, or so. This was the first "ds" game I bought, the others, so far, gba mario brothers games. I'm addicted to this game. The first area of world 8 is kicking my tuchus and I can't stop playing. I look forward to when I, finally, win the game. Then I can go back and replay it, going to the worlds I skipped (2 of them, I believe), being able to save at every junction. The saving is activated once you win the game.
If you like mario games, buy it, I don't think you'll be dissapointed. If you know how to beat world 8 with the stupid sniffing bees, let me know.

Great Gift

Great Fun for All

My son just got this game as a gift from Santa, and already the entire family has had a turn playing it! This includes my 10-year old son, my 5-year-old daughter, and myself.

The classic Super Mario Bros. game is there, with the same never-tiring Mario and Luigi. The same stages are there, with the classic flagpole at the end. The mini-games are great fun, even though I believe some are repeats.

For the true Mario & Luigi fan, for the Nintendo fan, for the good-clean-fun fan--this is a well spent $35.

New Super Mario Bros = Great Fun!! Mario Returns to 2D!

New Super Mario Bros is a great game that incorporates elements from the entire Mario franchise, making for a nostalgic and fun gaming experience. New Super Mario Bros is also notable for being Mario's return to his origins of 2D side scrolling, and it sure is a great return to form! New Super Mario Bros also sports colorful vibrant graphics, excellent music, various levels, some new innovations, some hidden surprises, and some suprisingly fun mini-games. Here are some pros and cons of the game:

Pros:
+ Incorporates elements from the entire Mario franchise (level designs are inspired by earlier Mario games, particularly Super Mario 1 and 3)
+ Graphics are excellent, very vibrant and colorful
+ Various worlds and diverse level designs
+ Great in-game music (including music from previous Mario games that have been remastered and remixed)
+ Fun nostalgic gameplay, with new innovations
+ High replay value, there are secret pathways to find, and three star coins in each level that you can strive to collect.
+ Mini games are a nice touch (though they are the same minigames included with Super Mario 64 DS)

Cons:
- The difficulty of the game is not especially challenging, especially to more experienced gamers, though the later levels do get progressively more difficult.

Ultimately, I highly recommend this game to anyone, to kids or adults. Kids can enjoy the colorful graphics and the fun side-scrolling gameplay, while adults can relive the fun and nostalgia of Mario in 2D. I also highly recommend this as the first game that DS owners play/own; though the game doesn't really take advantage of the DS touch screen, New Super Mario Bros returns to the franchise's original formula, and its just a blast to play!

Fun, but somewhat easy

I got the New Super Mario Bros. with my DS about a month ago and have finished it since. The game had very nice graphics and many features like mini game mode which I will talk about later but right now, I am talking about the main game.

Pros:

Great graphics
Many different forms of Mario
Interesting new characters and objects
Fun, can play one part over and over again.

Cons:

Easy
Annoying music
Sometimes unclear
No Luigi
Hard to get power-ups using stars

Over all, the main game part is good for all players but will be much easier for experienced players,(Super Mario Bros. 3 is good to get background on the characters and how to play. Also, that game takes longer.)so be aware.

My favorite part of buying this game was the 1-4 player mini game modes. There are many mini games, but be aware, some of the directions for the mini games aren't that clear. With the mini games you mainly use the bottom or touch screen, which is a nice change from the mainly non-touch screen main game. Another thing that I really liked about the mini games is that you didn't need to go serching for another person to play the mini games. Yes, there are more mini games available to play if you play against other players but if you play by yourself you can have just as much fun beating your own scores and being able to practice so that when the time comes to link up, you will be a pro!

The last feature is the wireless Mario vs. Luigi mode. I have only used this mode once and it is really fun but can get repetitive. This is a nice link up change from the mini games.

Over all, this is a very good but not great game. I would still buy it, though, for entertainment.

Blast from the past with a twist

I have thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. It has a lot of the feel of the old Super Mario Brothers 3 game from Nintendo 64 with some new twists. It has some puzzles to figure out as well as just straight skill playing. It's a perfect game for a temporary escape from everyday drudgery. I haven't played very many of the mini games, but my kids seem to enjoy them.
