THIS GAME SUCKS!!

This game is fine....Except for it sucks!! It takes no skill whatsoever. A no skill no talent moron could play this game and pretend their good at it. Whoever plays this game and enjoys it is an absolute idiot. This game is nothing compared to hardcore fighters like tekken, street fighter and even king of fighters. When it comes to any aspect of this game it sucks. I must admit the idea of weapons is alright but to make that the key aspect of the game you would think it would be a bit more complicated then just pressing buttons randomly. I swear anyone could win in that game by pressing random buttons. Again a no talent no skill game. Just another example of how much Soul Calibur sucks!!

Waste of time, waste of money

I played this game for about two days before it lost my attention. Soul Calibur 2 might look nice, but as far as playability goes, this is a pathetic sequel to the first.

First of all, the player interface is slow. Characters respond slowly to commands, making it almost impossible to block or do combos in an actual fight. Secondly, many of the characters are locked. But unlike in SC1, you have to go through a tedious "weapon master mode" in order to unlock them. This would be fine if the "weapon master mode" were actually challenging, but it appears that instead of making a good AI, Namco has decided to waste our time by throwing us these ridiculous and time-consuming scenarios we have complete in order to get the most out of the game WE PAYED for. For example, instead of throwing you a series of hard characters in a mission match, they will just give you the same dumb computer but put "earthquakes" or "booby traps" into the match to take away your health (but not the enemy's). That apparently has become Namco's idea of a "challenge". I call it a waste of time. Third, the music and sound [is bad]. The songs for all the levels are cheezy, and all the characters -- instead of having cool Japanese voices -- now say really corny things in English that barely make sense. For example, before many matches, Mitsurugi will say "Don't cry". Huh??? But is just the icing on the cake for a game that just can't cut it.

My advice to you is to save your [money] and stick with Soul Calibur 1. That game was made when Namco still knew how to make games.

this game was awful. watching the characters try to move around the screen in that annoying circle motion pissed me off to no end! this was absolutly terrible FFX2 was better than this and FFX2 was pretty bad. if u want a real fighting game thats way better with good graphics buy super smash bros meele. the only reason this game got any stars is the fact its graphics are really good other then that this is the worst game ive played in ages. (the worst is jak)

Let me start by saying that I am not a kid I am 14. First of all this is just like Mortal Cimbat but with swords and it some manages to cheat more. For exmple, in Weapons Master you will fight the same person expert they have a huge advantages like they come in groups of three or sometimes five. Cheating! Now in my strong opion you should be able to set the difficulty of Weapons Mode because eventaully your oppent beomes to sissy by blocking a WHOLE lot. And then there buying stuff. the weapons you get 90% of the are useless no wait lower than that. And the cost for a new outfit is insane. The cost for that is at least the of 4 weapons. You think a new outfit makes your character stronger but it doesn't. So unless you are on crack get this game.

Good for a rent

This game loses its magic after a few hours. The tekken series puts this to shame. It is worth one rent, and thats it.

this game would be so rad if they had a different main character for ps2. i have to give props to the game though awesome fighting game with the rpg style of showing you the number of hp points have been taken from damage. I would give five for the xbox and gamecube i mean they got spawn and link and we got some ... from tekken 4 which sucked. to make this game rad the ps2 people should have made the kingdom hearts version of cloud (from final fantasy 7 for the playstation) as their main character mascot.

It's good but not impressive.

Soul Calibur II has it's moments, but it lacks the graphics on certain areas. The superficial display of the characters takes time to load and that was never an issue in the first Soul Calibur for DreamCast. Also when certain complicated moves are executed, the PSX2 actually slows down or lags during good fight scenes. I can't argue too much of the changes of the moves, but Mitsurugi lacked certain moves I liked from the first. He can no longer jump mid-air at his enemies and that forces him to only attack head on instead of inside the opponent and using it as a window of attack. Though certain areas of the graphics were enhanced and the battle stage to be more part of the fight, the fighters themselves look less realistic compared to the first game in some ways. Their skin, their clothes, eyes, and body movements seem to show less attention as to their ability to fight. It's true it's a fighting game, but most people would agree attention to detail is important. In terms of game play, they made some decent improvements, but I didn't like how they changed some of the major characters looks. Mitsurugi looks and sounds less mature than of the first, Seung Mina's cuteness were changed into a more bolder and stronger face(kind of miss the cuter version), Voldo can't have many complaints, Maxi now plays with his hair, Sophitia's superficial appearance in terms of graphics is worse than of the first one, Ivy's moves are less complicated (a plus, but also her moves been altered as well), and Nightmare's new look baffled me because why would a blood thristy killer look anymore deadly with a red scarf and bat-like wings on its helmet(some dramatic flare, but not impressive)? Because Charade, Talim, and others are new I would say they are ok, but honestly Soul Calibur should include the old and all the new ones too just for relation to the old games like Li-Long, Lizard Man, Hwang, and Rock. Over all the game is decent, but I expected a greater depth in graphics instead of a mix trade of certain improvements and certain things degraded in terms of quality. Still I would recommend this game because it's still a good game to play, but I hope Soul Calibur III would put more characters mixed with old ones and at the same time don't sacrafice quality graphics. Of course I have yet to see the Game Cube or X Box version, but I rather have it on X Box because of it's greater graphics performance. It's also because I don't like Tekken boy Heihaichi, rather play as Link or Spawn any day. They could have put in better characters than HeiHaichi of Tekken. It's another stupid thing I don't like about the new version because they make you buy like 3 different versions to play everyone, why not be nice about it and give it to us all instead of only in one game console in the same of profit? I understand maximizing profit, but I am also a consumer that can't spend money on games all the time. It's totally unfair! Still I would still buy one of the versions, but in my opinion just not for PSX2. It's up to the reader to decide though, so you don't have to take my word for it. I'm just telling it as it is. I liked playing it, still you think you could make it more realistic like blood spewing out, half of the moves made in this game can kill a human being already and yet they are alive and not dead. Other moves can cause a person to be in the wheel chair for life, but I guess you can't expect too much realism or it will just kill the enjoyment of killing or whooping someone. I hope this thorough review helps you decide...

This is a good game but i dont think its as good as the original. There is someting anooying about this game, they didnt make the stages as beautiful as in the original for Dreamcast. The graphics are really good, and the game play is very challenging. I was addicted to this game, but I reccommend you rent this before you buy it.

Great But Not As Great As Its Predecessor

Soul Calibur is a beautiful and excellent game. Compared to the Dreamcast version this version boost in areas such as graphics and sound. Namco made some geat improvements in SC2. The reason I gave the game a 3 star rating is for several reasons. First of all, that weapon master mode was just plan stupid and it didn't yield as many extras as SC1. I noticed that the computer actually cheats. I don't get how the computer gets to play by a different set of rules than we do. Certain moves shouldn't be counterable at all. I'm a Taki player and there a move I used that she punches the ground near the enemy's foot, is sends them flying on into the air. I understand if you crouch and the move doesn't work, but how can you counter and move that wasn't even directly aimed towards the enemy. Also I find it ridiculous the computer can counter your grab attempts just as if you were trying to slash or kick it. But then you can't do that at all. I don't mind the computer being challenging, but one thing that anyone would agree is the game should be playing by the same rules I have to play by. Rules are suppose to be even. Don't get me wrong I still think it's a get game and I'm still holding on to my copy, but there are obvious problems with the fighting engine that's really making Soul Calibur 2 not live up to the legacy left by it predecessor.
