Still the Best Fighting Games Around

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 0 / 0

Having been an avid fan of the original for around 3 and a half years, I was obviously rather stoked to get my hands on the sequel. With improvements in both the audio and visual departments, combined with same great gameplay and controls from the first game, this installment obviously meets it's hype. Buy it as soon as you get the chance...

Very good game!

But really had a hard time with some of the fighting scenes and getting the "extras" wasnt easy. But, and all out slug fest none the less. However, i think they should have left the Tekken thing alone cause that was lame...(Hint: now only if Tekken was like this..hmmmm)

The best of the best

If you like fighting games this is it. They have great characters, great story line, great grapics, and of course great fights. You can't ignore this game. The only possible down side is that school's starting up.

Awsome follow up!

I played SC2 and the graphics and gameplay are awesome!
Each console version of SC2 has their own bonus character.
For the XBOX it is Todd McFaralne's Spawn.
For the GameCube, the bonus character is Link.
For PS2 it is Heidachi.
All the fighters are fighting for the powerful sword called the Soul Edge.
Besides the fighting, the storyline is also very spectacular.
Each character has their own story and background of why they want to have the Soul Edge sword.
I recommend this game, as a must, to a Soul Calibur fan.

I love this game

I've been a fan since Soul Blade on the original Playstation but never bought Soul Calibur since I didn't have a Dreamcast. Needless to say, I'm thoroughly enjoying collecting weapons in Weapon Master Mode and can't wait to see what else the series has to offer. Can't say you're a fighting game fan unless you own SCII. I've heard the Xbox version is better because of Spawn and that's probably true but who cares, it's Soul Calibur!!

having played the soul calibur series since psx then the one for dreamcast and also a large fan of the other fighting games, this is by far the best out there. great graphics, the load times are a bit lengthy compared to xbox and game cube, but its still a great and challanging game none the less. the only thing i would change is the controller, im not fond of the ps2 controller, mind you its better hten the gamecube one but the xbox controller s is superior to ps2's. if you can find a converter i would suggest it, but the ps2 controller is still good, espically for the people who have played many fighting games for ps2 already. over all its great game, beautiful graphics, and great fighting style.

One of the Best Fighting Games Ever

The game Soul Calibur was said to be the best fighting game ever. Now how would you perfect on a game that was said to be almost perfect? Namco figured out a way.

Graphics:
The graphics are gorgeous from the starting screen and the intro movie to the crisp solid looking characters that you control while playing the game. The game from every single point of Soul Calibur 1 in terms of graphics was boosted up and shows distinct differences. There are way more polygons being used since there is a more powerful system present, thus eliminating many jagged edges and making the characters look even more realistic than in the predecessor. The main thing is how well the game looks while actually playing. Your characters do moves that are actually used in certain fighting techniques, and they look realistic. There are times when you can do an unblockable and cancel it causing lightning and fire to shoot around your character for an amazing graphical effect. Or Soul Charging making your character glow a different color based on the level. All in all, the graphics are amazing and the stages are crisp and add new definition with each of them being more unique and a different way to play in each time.

Sound:
I dont tend to notice the sound for music that much, but I do know that the music fits perfectly with the theme of the game. It sounds authentic and matches the stage that it is played on, and isn't too distracting though to make you not concentrate on the fight. The main part about the sound that makes it so good are the voices. You get an option to switch between English voices and Japanese voices for the game depending on your taste. Personally, i like all the voices, they each tend to match the character. Sometimes the things that are said can be amusing because its corny. But nonetheless, they were well done in both languages and the battle cries done are well made, too, and doesn't sound fake like some other games.

Gameplay:
This is the main part about Soul Calibur 2 that makes it shine. The gameplay is smooth, you can move in one of 8 directions to go any which way you want to. There are over 100 moves for each character, some characters have stances and additional throws as well as the basic one's. There are moves that you do while running in any direction, there are moves you do that make you jump, there are moves that are done as you are landing from a jump, there are moves you do while your back is turned, there are moves you do while you're standing up from crouching, there are even a few moves you do while you're laying on the ground. This leads to a huge variety in the way you can use and combine these moves in order to create your own style. The fact that there are over 20 playable characters makes it easy to find one or two characters that you like that will fit your style more than another. And the appearance of each character is different enough that you can easily distinguish one that stands out to you and use that character. So this game can appeal to anybody, including people that may have never picked up a fighting game before because all the characters are so different and unique that one will jump out at you and make you want to pick that one, whether it be how they look, what country they are from, or what weapon they use.

The way the game is created, it is easy to pick up, yet once you get more into it, the depth that is present in it will be clear. There are many different things that make this a unique game. The juggle system, for example, is unique because after being hit in the air once, you can move your character away from your opponent in any direction you choose so you aren't getting hit in the air over and over again for long boring air juggles that are in other games such as Tekken 4 and most 2D fighters. But there are also combo's that are guaranteed due to possible stuns, making even more possibilites depending on how you like to play. You can do the move that does more damage, or you can do the move that puts you in a better position against your opponent. The throw system in the game is arguably one of the best. You can break most throws and avoid damage by pressing the correct button in a certain amount of time. That way, throws aren't overpowering, this is the game that they are the easiest to break probably, but they are also useful for damage making a larger variety of things you can use. Also, the game has a guard impact system, which is done by pressing Forward and Guard for High and Mid attacks, and Back and Guard for Low and Mid attacks. This is useful because if there is a move that your opponent has that either does a low or a mid, then by blocking, you only have a 50% chance of getting it right and stopping the attack, but the guard impact system will stop both the low and the mid, and put you on the offense, changing the pace of the battle again, for an intense fighting experience. But your opponent can also predict it and avoid doing any move, and it keeps them on the offense, thus creating another possible mixup on what to do or not, creating huge amounts of depth that is present, yet can still be simple to understand.

The game is fun to play for both newcomers and veterans, the many new modes present in the console release leads to hours of fun alone, and VS mode against friends is even more fun, and easily worth it.

The best and only weapons fighter game

the scores tell it all...... but if you want some reasons to complain here are a few.....on the PS2 version it has slow down during intense fights causing major frustration when getting your[...] kicked by fast characters. There could have been more art like the fist soul calibur, weapon master mode could have been longer, all characters should have had a third costume, and I wish you could exchange all that money for experience when there is nothing left to buy.well other than that this game kicks.

buy it. now!

This game is, by far, the best fighting game out there. There was so much hype about games like Virtua Fighter 4, which really was a big dissapointment...SC2 is the best game out there!!! Its actually a FIGHTING game! You dont just smack people with your hands and kick them, you actually get to use weapons!! WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR?!! The characters are well designed, and all have their strengths and weaknessess. For example, people like Nightmare are extremely powerful but slow, while people like Talim are only moderately powerful, but lightning fast. Also, there is multiple costumes for everyone, and countless different weapons!! BUY THIS GAME NOW! Why are you still reading this? BUY IT!!!!!

By Far The Best Fighting Game Out There!

This game is by far the best fighting game out on the market today. You get awsome graphics, deatailed and unique chracters as well as an endless replay value. Alot of gamers were shocked when Soul Caliber was realeased for the Dreamcast. The graphics then were absoultey amazing for their time and today they still look top notch. So when Soul Cailber II was realesed some years later, a great deal of fighting fans were pleased. Now all of our hopes and prayers have been answered and the product is Soul Caliber II.
Soul Caliber II is packed with plenty of modes of gameplay. First off there is the Weapon Masters Mode which will keep anyone busy for awhile and added to that are over 250 unlockable items such as characters, costumes, and weapons. Yes I did say weapons and that is perhaps what makes this game so sweet. By having each character have over a dozen weapons the game will take some time to master. Unlike other fighting game this one includes weapons such as an axe and a plentidue of swords. The graphics are truley eye poping. If you hapeen to own an HDTV, then you will be amazed. Another plus is that the game is being released for all three main consoles: Playstation 2, X-box, and Gamecube. Each game has its own special character, and I must say the version to get would be Gamecube with Link (Zelda guy)as the playable character. Being such an excellent game, perhaps your only choice is which version to get?

Graphics: 9/10
Sound: 4/10
Replayibility: 7/10

Online: No
Multiplayer: Yes, 1-2 players
